Re: [Bug 1318868] Re: menulibre and alacarte crashes after menu edit
Hi Sean, Here is the terminal interaction on my machine at the moment. rob@DesktopUbuntu:~$ alacarte (alacarte:5724): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_accel_label_set_accel_closure: assertion 'gtk_accel_group_from_accel_closure (accel_closure) != NULL' failed (alacarte:5724): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_accel_label_set_accel_closure: assertion 'gtk_accel_group_from_accel_closure (accel_closure) != NULL' failed rob@DesktopUbuntu:~$ rob@DesktopUbuntu:~$ rob@DesktopUbuntu:~$ menulibre (menulibre:5733): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_model_get_iter: assertion 'path-depth 0' failed (menulibre:5733): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_model_get_iter: assertion 'path-depth 0' failed rob@DesktopUbuntu:~$ However both Main Menu and Menu Editor are running and allowing edits, so this does not reflect the situation where they don't cooperate. Would you like me to try to replicate the error and repeat the above (assuming I can of course)? I have attached the current /home/.config/menus/ as an archive file menus0 (which I think is an empty folder), plus the older one that I had to delete (ie cut and paste elsewhere) menus1. It has preserved a file called xfce-applications.menu which was present when it was crashing, and a sub folder gnome-applications-merged and applications-merged that contain the same named file xfce-applications.menu that previously allowed the programs to work. I may be jumping the gun here, but I am hoping these extra observations may help. *Rob Ward* Lake Tyers Beach, 3909 Lake Tyers Beach Website http://www.laketyersbeach.net.au XP to XUbuntu - The journey, join me! http://www.laketyersbeach.net.au/XP2XU.html On 13/05/14 20:22, Sean Davis wrote: Hi, Please run alacarte or menulibre from the terminal to see if there is any crash output. ** Attachment added: menus0.tar.gz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318868/+attachment/4111318/+files/menus0.tar.gz ** Attachment added: menus1.tar.gz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318868/+attachment/4111319/+files/menus1.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318868 Title: menulibre and alacarte crashes after menu edit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/menulibre/+bug/1318868/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: Trouble finding drives in Ubuntu-Gnome
Hi, in Nautilus files when in your home folder shift tab a couple of times to the bookmarks, computer and available file systems. Hope that is helpful, otherwise there is a gnome extension called removal drives which is pretty good. Cheers Rob Whyte On 13/05/14 12:33, Lenny wrote: Hi, I am running Ubuntu Gnome live 14.04, and I am trying to display computer, so I can copy a folder from /dev/sda1. I went into terminal and ran: Sudo mount -a And this does not help. I am having difficulty finding places or computer. I searched for both gnome and unity keyboard shortcuts, but nothing there displays drives. I did find files, and when I go into that, it shows my home folder, and I tried a backspace, to backup into drives, and nothing was there. I looked in / and looked in mnt and media and no luck there either. Hopefully someone can help finding drives. Thanks for any help. [Bug 1318868] [NEW] menulibre and alacarte crashes after menu edit
Public bug reported: After using alacarte to add a new menu entry, both menulibre and alacarte do not run. menulibre draws a window outline and disappears. alacarte simply thrashes the hard drive and nothing appears. Removing /home/.config/menus/ allows them to work again. I was not sure whether to attach the alacarte or menulibre system information, sorry if I have got the wrong one, I can forward the alacarte if requested. I have saved a copy of the menus folder which I can forward as well. During all this time the Applications Menu and Whiskers menu worked fine in the Panel and retained their menu entries and structure. I maybe at fault in how I used the Menu editing programs (my stats will show I have only had the system up and running for 4 weeks, status==newbie) or it maybe a bug. Since the first time the menu editing crashed, and I recovered it, I have successfully added extra items to the menu, but I have also had it crash twice since then as well. Each time deleting that .config/menus/ folder got it working again and stable as long as I was modest in what I attempted. The last time it crashed I was trying to add an Icon to a menu entry that did not get an Icon when it was installed. /home/rob/.config/menus/xfce-applications.menu is quite short about 400+bytes and when it crashes there is a file about 16kbytes long (this file contains a whole list what looks like every possible menu item, visible and invisible, in the machine, the short file version only contains information relevant to the last icon created). lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Release:14.04 rob@DesktopUbuntu:~$ apt-cache policy menulibre menulibre: Installed: 2.0.3-1 Candidate: 2.0.3-1 Version table: *** 2.0.3-1 0 500 http://mirror.as24220.net/pub/ubuntu-archive/ trusty/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status rob@DesktopUbuntu:~$ apt-cache policy alacarte alacarte: Installed: 3.10.0-1ubuntu2 Candidate: 3.10.0-1ubuntu2 Version table: *** 3.10.0-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://mirror.as24220.net/pub/ubuntu-archive/ trusty/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: menulibre 2.0.3-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.47-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: i386 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Tue May 13 11:06:37 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-04-18 (24 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Release i386 (20131016) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: menulibre UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-04-18 (24 days ago) ** Affects: menulibre (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318868 Title: menulibre and alacarte crashes after menu edit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/menulibre/+bug/1318868/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1317949] [NEW] Unable to see secondary groups in `id` listing
Public bug reported: When using SSSD 1.11.5 on Ubuntu 14.04, configured with the LDAP backend, running `id username` only shows the primary group, along with any secondary group that has been pre-cached (for example by running `getent group group` beforehand). With SSSD 1.9.5 (from a PPA on Ubuntu 12.04) secondary groups are shown just fine with `id`. I am using the LDAP backend to point at a Samba 4 server running as an Active Directory domain controller. Many thanks Brian for pointing this out. [Bug 1315575] [NEW] poor wireless connection with current kernel
Public bug reported: The new 3.13 kernel that came with kubuntu 14.04 creates some kind of issue with my internet connection. I get severe lag and stalled connections. Re: [ubuntu-studio-users] Netflix on Ubuntu Studio 14.04
On 04/29/2014 01:14 PM, Israel wrote: Another thing of note, Netflix has recently said they are working on an HTML5 version of the site to run on all devices. Currently it only runs on the Windows Phone, but they are working to make it work on all devices. So soon (hopefully) they will finally drop Silverlight in favor of more compatibility. By run on all devices, they mean run on all devices with browsers that implement proprietary DRM on HTML5 videos. Surely you must have heard about the political games surrounding the EME (Encrypted Media Extensions) proposal in front of the W3C last year, which would specify a standard interface through which DRM providers could provide non-standard encryption modules which, needless to say, would be provided in binary form only... Netflix is one of the biggest proponents of that feature. The only reason Netflix currently works using HTML5 on IE11 on Win8.1 is because Microsoft added those extensions independently, without waiting for the W3C. So, Netflix still depends on a proprietary, Windows-only binary. Maybe later this year it'll also be available as a proprietary iOS binary or proprietary Android binary, but I'd be pretty surprised if any Linux browser (with the possible exception of the binary version of Chrome, since Netflix does plan to support ChromeOS) will support these extensions. http://techblog.netflix.com/2013/04/html5-video-at-netflix.html It could still be a better solution than the Pipelight one, but it's a far cry from what most people (or even companies) mean when they say HTML5 video, thinking they're talking about an open standard that will run on anything. [Bug 1310762] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 random freeze and lock up
I concur. Since Ubuntu 13.04, I have seen quick lockups with both the nouveau and nVidia drivers in all the Ubuntu and derivative variants I have tried (ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, Mint, Mint KDE, etc). My original problem occurred when I upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. Since then, that kernel/nvidia driver combo has been completely unusable. I can use Mint LMDE (Cinnamon) which is kernel 3.10 (I think?) and Korora/Fedora 20 (which is kernel 3.13.10) even though resume doesn't work there, so it seems that kernel 3.13 breaks something graphical. I dread the day that LMDE upgrades to kernel 3.13, because I expect things to break then and I'll be left wth Windows 7 as my only working alternative since I can't find a Linux distro (out of the hundreds available) that just works. (FWIW, Solyd* both also both fail miserably with the same problem. The problem is clearly upstream of Ubuntu as it affects a number of distros with that kernel/nVidia driver combo.) It's a pity that some things that used to work no longer do so, and the people that break them don't seem to care. I've ssen many responses on these bug report sites where the user is being blamed for the bugs, or being told that's normal; get over it. This is just not bloody good enough. [Bug 1068390] Re: pbuilder-dist dies when there is no development release
This bug just came back, it is not fixed. Trigger appears to be the date: as of about two hours ago it is 2014-04-17 UTC, which happens to be the last release date listed in /usr/share/distro-info/ubuntu.csv. So the distro_info library thinks there is no development release, and throws an exception when asked. I think the correct fix for pbuilder-dist is just to catch the exception and conclude that perhaps if there is no development release, we're not trying to build for the development release, and just get on with the job. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068390 Title: pbuilder-dist dies when there is no development release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-dev-tools/+bug/1068390/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1235754] Re: quassel-* entry missing from indicator plugin (envelope), and tray icon doesn't work.
Caleb, also, this is not an issue in Kubuntu as they do not use any of the indicator-* stuff that I am aware of. ** Description changed: in 13.04 (Raring), Quassel doesn't have an entry in the messaging applet anymore (The Envelope), and the tray icon does not work. To duplicate, install either of the quassel, quassel-client applications, and launch. In 12.04 there is an entry in the messaging menu, but in 13.04 there is not. [Bug 1297429] [NEW] Using Firefox with Gnome-Orca the caret becomes unresponsive and Orca access keys such as headings buttons edit fields stop responding.
Public bug reported: Normal navigation using Orca and Firefox 28, after a while Orca will become non responsive. The access keys an Orca user would normally use such as H to jump to next heading or B to find next button stop working. Orca is still aware that it is in Firefox and re-loading the Orca preferences seem to fix the problem. Can not re-produce this outside of Unity whilst using Gnome-shell and had previously tried downgrading Firefox, that does not seem to fix the problem. To re-produce simply use Firefox for a while with Orca openning links in new pages and closing them for a couple of minutes, or typing in edit fields the edit text will become unreadable and the bug will become apparent. I have also raised this bug with Gnome-a11y on IRC and they seem to not be aware of it therefore I think it is Unity specific. [Bug 1295382] Re: Dell Latitude E7240 does not resume from suspend
I did some more digging and realised that this was due to a misconfigured BIOS - I'd been too aggressive in disabling hardware to save power. Once I restored it to the default setting, suspend/resume works fine - from the pm_trace logs I suspect the issue was that I'd disabled the serial port. [Bug 1295382] [NEW] Dell Latitude E7240 does not resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Seen with 14.04 beta 1 (Trusty). When I suspend my Dell Latitude E7240 laptop (either by closing the lid, running pm-suspend or selecting Sleep from the KDE menu) it suspends successfully and the power LED flashes. When I try and resume it (either by opening the laptop or by pressing the power button), it starts to resume (the power button stops flashing and is fully lit up) but nothing appears on the screen and my wifi indicator starts flashing (on for ~4 seconds, off for ~4 seconds) until I power off the machine by holding the power button down. I've reproduced this with linux-image-3.14.0-031400rc7-generic (the latest non-nightly kernel mainline), as recommended by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend. I've also booted into the 12.04 Kubuntu install CD and suspended that, which experiences the same problem. I'm using the latest BIOS (A08). I'm reasonably confident this isn't a problem with my wifi card - I experience the same symptoms when it is disabled in the BIOS or switched off by the hardware switch. I've followed the pm_trace instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend and attached it. That does include the lines: [1.458151] Magic number: 6:635:599 [1.458165] serial8250 serial8250: hash matches However, lsmod doesn't show a serial8250 module loaded. [Bug 1235754] Re: quassel-* entry missing from indicator plugin (envelope), and tray icon doesn't work.
metRo_, not in Ubuntu/Unity. A nasty workaround for Xubuntu is to remove the indicator-application package. That will at least allow the tray icon to appear, but if anything else uses that package, you will lose that as well. For example, the volume indicator. The Quassel team states that this is a won't-fix because Canonical changed the way this works in incompatible ways. I don't agree with this, but it is what it is. If anyone wants to step up and write a patch, that would be awesome. However, for now, I just accept the fact that there is no indicator or tray icon in Unity for Quassel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1235754 Title: quassel-* entry missing from indicator plugin (envelope), and tray icon doesn't work. I will add my comments, Charles, you say this is by design, but it is a design flaw. The battery gets down to about 5 minutes remaining, and stops discharging.
