Apologies for the delay, I have not been able to work on this but I am
still experiencing this problem.

Mathias - yes, I am able to connect to the mysqld server - it behaves
normally, but will not stop. How should I go about fixing the tables?

but PHPMyAdmin shows that the Event_priv column is present,and is at
position 29, and that the column count of mysql.db is 22.
