[Bug 506488] [NEW] regression on latest update: edge scrolling no longer works on trackpad
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics I updated Karmic just now, after not having done so for several weeks. After rebooting after the update, and logging back in, I find that edge- scrolling on the laptop's touchpad no longer works. Nor does tap-in- corners. [Bug 482557] [NEW] regression in logitech dinovo edge keyboard in karmic update
Public bug reported: Using the released version of Karmic, my Logitech dinovo edge keyboard worked fine. Now, after a few Karmic updates, it no longer works properly. This keyboard uses bluetooth to some bluetooth adapter that I have plugged into a USB port. Specifically, if I turn off the keyboard's power then back on again, pressing keys or using the mouse that is embedded in the keyboard does nothing. If I use another keyboard to switch to a text VT, then back to VT7, then the logitech keyboard works again. The same thing happens if I leave the keyboard unused for a long time, say overnight. This was working fine in the Karmic release, so I think this is a regression in one of the updates since release. [Bug 401691] Re: move to main
I'm still talking with upstream. Based on that, I am optimistic that Erlang will use standard zlib libraries well in time for 10.04. Elliot has been having a conversation about the test suite, and he's optimistic that it will be available in time for 10.04 also. While this means that Erlang for 9.10 would use a patched zlib, and would have no test suite, the situation will improve dramatically for 10.04. -- move to main https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401691 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 418521] [NEW] On upgrade, X did not start because nvidia module is not available
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-common I run the development version of Karmic on my 64 bit machine. First thing this morning, my machine was running with nvidia accelerated graphics. Later today I updated with apt-get update ; apt-get dist-upgrade. The upgrade appeared to go okay. I restarted the machine. It loaded up into a text console. I logged in, and tried startx. It failed. I looked in xorg.conf, and commented out the line saying to use a nvidia driver. After this, startx worked but with basic graphics (not accelerated). I tried going to the Appearance Preferences menu and turning on accelerated graphics. It asked me if it's okay to download a driver and install it. I agreed to this, and something was downloaded and installed. A confusing message implied I should restart the machine to see accelerated graphics. I restarted, and was back in text mode with startx not starting. sudo modprobe nvidia gives me the response FATAL: Module nvidia not found. I spoke with StevenK on #ubuntu-devel, and he asked me to file this bug. [Bug 406837] [NEW] options module crashes, thus cannot suspend my vaio vgn-tz190n
Public bug reported: The confusingly named options module, that is for integrated GSM modems connected via USB, crashes on start-up. [Bug 400718] [NEW] Alt key in Compiz does not work when Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu selected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config To reproduce, log into a Karmic GNOME desktop with compiz turned on. Open a terminal window, and use alt-tab. A window switcher is activated. Go into the keyboard preferences applet, in the Layouts tab choose the Layout Options button. In Alt/Win key behaviour, change it from Default to Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu. Try alt-tab again. No window switcher is activated. Try alt+win+tab. A window switcher is activated. Try alt+F1. No panel menu is activated. Try alt+win+F1. The panel menu is activated. Same for switching desktops using the keyboard. Now, restore that setting to Default, and see that the keyboard shortcuts work as expected. If you had the Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu setting set when you logged in, simply changing it is not enough to get alt-tab behaviour back to normal; you need to log out and log back in after returning the setting to Default. [Bug 338271] Re: Sony Vaio integrated camera doesn't work with Jaunty
@sconklin: Thanks for taking a look at this, Steve. There's a PPA of a kernel module for this camera here: https://launchpad.net/~intuitivenipple/+ppa-packages The package is r5u870-dkms. I can modprobe r5u870, and nothing appears in /var/log/messages. However, when I run 'cheese', it doesn't find the camera. There is nothing at /dev/video. If I run camorama, I get an error dialog: Error (camorama): Could not connect to video device (/dev/video0). [Bug 364029] [NEW] boots into busybox with 2.6.28-11-generic kernel.
Public bug reported: I just updated all the packages on my jaunty system to the latest ones, and rebooted my Dell X1. [Bug 347831] [NEW] I need to set up my logitech dinovo edge bluetooth keyboard on each restart
Public bug reported: I just installed Jaunty on my desktop machine. I'm seeing a regression since 8.10. When I start it up, I cannot use my bluetooth logitech dinovo edge keyboard to log into the machine. So, I use a regular keyboard. When I'm logged in, the dinovo edge still doesn't work, neither keyboard or mousepad. I look in the System-Preferences-Bluetooth application, and the keyboard is listed there. The plug icon is flashing on and off, kind of irregularly. If I remove the keyboard from the Bluetooth application, then re-add it by putting the keyboard into associate with a new adapter mode, then typing the PIN into the keyboard, then after that it works perfectly. Then, next time I start up the machine, the keyboard doesn't work any more, and I need to repeat the whole thing. All of this was fine in 8.10. After a small pause, I could log in using the dinovo edge, and it worked fine while logged in. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- I need to set up my logitech dinovo edge bluetooth keyboard on each restart https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347831 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 339982] [NEW] X hangs for no apparent reason
Public bug reported: I'm running jaunty on my Sony Vaio TZ190N. Three times in the last two weeks I have experienced a total GUI hang. [Bug 192935] [NEW] Suspend on hardy worked last week on Sony VGN-TZ190N, doesn't work now
Public bug reported: I'm running 32 bit Hardy on my Sony laptop (VGN-TZ190N). Last week, suspend to ram worked fine. I was very happy, because suspend to ram had not worked on the Gutsy final release (although it had done so in an earlier milestone release). I updated, and now suspend to ram does not work. The screen goes blank, and I see a text cursor in the top left. The computer remains this way until it runs out of power, or I turn it off by hand. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Suspend on hardy worked last week on Sony VGN-TZ190N, doesn't work now https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192935 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 192096] [NEW] Applications/Places/System menu is not flush to top of screen
Public bug reported: This is on today's Hardy, with the gnome panel in the default position at the top of my screen. I want to use the Applications menu, so I throw my mouse cursor to the top of the screen, so the cursor is flush with the top of the screen, and kind of covering the lic of Applications. I click, but nothing happens. What should happen is that the menu opens. Now, if I move the cursor 2 pixels down, and click, then the menu opens. The reason that the active area should be flush to the top of the screen is well described in the HCI literature as Fitt's Law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitt%27s_law Edges (e.g. the menubar in Mac OS) and corners of the computer display (e.g. Start button in Windows XP) are particularly easy to acquire because the pointer remains at the screen edge regardless of how much further the mouse is moved, thus can be considered as having infinite width. As it is, I need to take far too much care when I want to open these menus in Ubuntu. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Applications/Places/System menu is not flush to top of screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192096 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 175166] click the icon instruction dangerously confusing
Public bug reported: I just visited a friend of mine. She's not all that technically oriented. I installed Ubuntu on her laptop for her a while ago, and she's very happy with it. Now, 6 months later, I visited her house, and watched her start up the computer and use it to browse a website. She started it up, and logged in. After login, the panel etc. loaded up. There's a white-on-orange star in the panel to indicate that there are software updates. Attached to this is a floating speech-bubble style notification. The notification contains an icon, and some text. The text says something like there are important updates to apply to your system. click the icon to install them. I watched my friend apparently dismiss the notification, and continue with loading up firefox. I said wait a minute -- those are important updates. they probably include security updates. you should apply them. She replied I keep trying to, but it never works. It says to click the icon, so I do, and then the box disappears and the system doesn't do anything about it. She'd been clicking the large icon in the notification balloon. Not the icon in the panel. So, all this time, she'd never been getting updates. This is a serious security/usability issue. I'm checking the security vulnerability box, because the usability error probably means many people out there are not keeping their system up to date, despite their best intentions. It would probably be fixable by removing the wrong icon from the notification balloon. [Bug 41427] Re: slow keys can turn on surreptitiously cause confusion.
In feisty, a warning box appears. However, there are problems with it: 1. the warning box is not a normal window, so it is not visible with a task button. 2. for some reason, it often appears underneath the currently focused window, and that combined with the lack of a task button makes it entirely invisible. 3. slow keys gets activated somehow even though the dialog is displayed and hasn't been okayed. So, when I find I've accidentally turned on slow keys, I'll later on find this hidden dialog asking me if I want to enable it. I think there are a few things broken here. The most useful change would be to make the dialog asking if I want to turn on slow keys, to make it a proper application window. [Bug 130659] Re: Workspaces on Gutsy switch incorrectly using Compiz with left over Feisty settings
I had this similar situation where ctrl+alt+left would jump two workspaces to the left each time. Similarly for right. I fixed it by going to gconf-editor, /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options, and removing the value 'wall' from the key 'active_plugins'. I'm guessing this is a conflict between wall and rotate handling the left_key and right_key keys. [Bug 138878] Firefox plugin finder hangs while modal dialog appears on different workspace
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I'm using the latest gutsy, 32 bit intel. I had installed gnash already. I'm using the medium level of desktop effects, with firefox on workspace 3. I used firefox to go to a web site with a flash movie, and clicked where the movie would be shown. The computer asked me if I'd like to install a plugin, and if I'd like gnash or adobe flash. I chose gnash and pressed next. Then, both firefox and that dialog with the next button appeared to freeze up. Nothing happened for a long while. Eventually, I noticed on workspace 1, a modal dialog telling me the changes have been applied, and asking me to close that window. I close the window using the 'close' button, and back on workspace 3, the plugin finder service window is working again. I press finish on that window, and the firefox page re-renders, this time with the flash content available. The bug is that the modal dialog appeared on desktop 1, whereas firefox was on workspace 3. So, I was waiting for the installation of the plugin to finish, watching workspace 3. It didn't occur to me to go and look on different workspaces to find the dialog to say yes, I confirm that the process can be finished. I tried telling the date and time applet to synchronize with internet servers. It couldn't find the ntp package, but nonetheless seemed to be able to do an ntpdate call. After, I tried to run apt-get update with sudo, and sudo would not run, giving me the timestamp too far in the future error. So, I was stuck, unable to change the time, as that would require running sudo also. -- sudo: timestamp too far in the future https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/76639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 127005] my xserver crashed after unsuspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-i810 I have a Dell X10 laptop running Ubuntu feisty. I suspended the laptop. I unsuspended. Usually this works fine, however, in this case, the screen remained blank for quite a while, even though I pressed the shift key several times to bring up the enter your password dialog. So, I switched to vt4 with ctrl+alt+f4, then tried to switch back to vt7. On vt7, I saw a blank screen with a few light coloured pixels of noise in the top left. Shortly after this, I couldn't see a video mode VT at all, and instead, I saw a red text-mode message in a box telling me that my X server had crashed. There were strange glyphs making up the border of this box. I'll attach my Xorg.0.log file. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-i810 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- my xserver crashed after unsuspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127005 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 41427] Re: slow keys can turn on surrepitiously cause confusion.
This just happened to me on feisty. The You held down the shift key for 8 seconds, do you want to activate slow keys dialog was on my screen, but hidden behind another window. The feature was activated, and when I deactivated it, everything was back to normal. My machine was not under heavy IO of any kind. I was watching a responsive system monitor applet all the time. I had not intentionally turned on slow keys, and I was very confused as to why my keyboard was not working properly. I had spent 30 minutes trying to load and unload USB kernel modules, suspend and hibernate, put keyboard into raw mode and check it on a console etc. The keyboard was working fine on a console. IMO, this is a pretty serious bug. -- slow keys can turn on surrepitiously cause confusion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I see the same thing. I worked around it by explicitly running jack with python 2.4. [Bug 48473] Re: Some drivers do not work with wpasupplicant, and therefore NM.
As commented in bug 53788 (a duplicate of this one), I'm seeing a related problem with a Sitecom WL-171 (RaLink RT2561/RT61), and NetworkManager Applet 0.6.4. I can use the wireless network just fine if I connect using dhclient ra0. However, I can't get network manager to actually connect, even if I run dhclient while it is trying to connect.
