[Bug 611468] [NEW] nautilus hangs when delete large folder(s)

2010-07-29 Thread Tien Nguyen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Whenever I try to delete (using Shift-Delete) a whole folder(s),
Nautilus will delete the content but then hangs. I have to Forced Quit,
no other wait around.

It only appears to have this problem with larger folders (having
hundreds of files/sub folders). Smaller folder are OK.

2009-12-16 Thread Tien Nguyen
May be I misunderstood the proper usage of Ubuntu One. As soon as I
tried to access/modify my Ubuntu One from different computers, my
account content got messed up badly.

Should I only use it only from one computer?

Thanks,

[Bug 482703] Re: my local folder and the web folder are not synched

2009-12-15 Thread Tien Nguyen
@Phillip
So far so good. I have tested on one single laptop:

1/ I had an old folder on the Web but it did not updated on my laptop.
So I deleted that from the web page and started from scratch.

2/ So I copied one folder into the ~/Ubuntu One folder and I saw it
synced up with the web page.

3/ I created a folder on the web page and I saw the new folder synced up
on the local ~/Ubuntu One folder.

4/ I went to another computer (a virtualbox), logged into the web page,
all files are there. Start UnbuntuOne on this computer, I was asked for
authetication and then the Unbutu One folder is synced up.

Thanks so much for fixing this!!!

2009-11-30 Thread Tien Nguyen
Yes it is reproducible.

1/ Connect the USB drive. It mounted works OK.
2/ After about 10 to 15 minutes of not using the drive, the system would get
into this situation.

I am using Maxtor OneTouch and Wester Digital FreeAgent. To remount the
disks, I need to turn them off and on again; then it will works.

Thanks Martin for closing this bug. I am sure that it disappeared by

My closing comment would be I actually move away from any type of local

off line support such as Gmail, there is no real reason to install huge
app any more.

[Bug 476574] Re: usb drive unmounts after a few minutes

2009-11-20 Thread Tien Nguyen
I have found the same behavior on my laptop after upgraded to 9.10. The
USB drive is Maxtor OneTouch as well. Other external USB drive seem to
be OK.

I also found a strange work around. If I open a terminal shell and cd to
the USB Maxtor drive folder and just leave it there. Then the USB drive
will stay mounted properly overnight without any problem.

Hope this help shed some light.

There are many puzzled noob Ubuntu users with this problem out there.

Is there anyway that you can use a program (windows speak= wizard) that

Maybe one that can use the info in the windows wizard generated files to

Still, what a mess for anyone, as just a month ago I was trying nearly

There are many puzzled noob Ubuntu users with this problem out there.
Have mercy, or just give up the idea that Ubuntu is easy to use.
Is there anyway that you can use a program (windows speak= wizard) that
 would configure this itself?
Maybe one that can use the info in the windows wizard generated files to
configure every machine on the local net?

minutes, the mount point got disconnected and copy operation failed. I

[Bug 331040] [NEW] can not mount cryptsetup drive

2009-02-18 Thread Tien Nguyen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cryptsetup

I understand that this is bug report forum, but I think this could be a
bug so I choose to post it here.

I just got into mounting problem with one of my encrypted USB pen drive.
I do not remember what happened but I use to be able to mount the drive
OK after entering the password. Now the mount failed. Here is the output
of my cryptsetup status

/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_1044ef9b-e035-4a2c-83af-1b5168beb581 is active:
cipher: aes-cbc-essiv:sha256
keysize: 128 bits
device: /dev/mmcblk0p1
offset: 1032 sectors
size: 7951080 sectors
mode: read/write

Here is the result of mount command:

sudo mount /dev/mapper/luks_crypto_1044ef9b-e035-4a2c-83af-1b5168beb581 ~/fs/tmp
mount: you must specify the filesystem type

I can suck it in and reformat but I would like to learn how to deal with
this problem. So far I found one other incident reported here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6755311#post6755311

That can not be (or should not be) the source of the problem. Because I know
that the problem did not happen for other applications and web mail
interface. The problem is intermitent so I think you just lucky for a moment
there. I gave up Evolution and went to ThunderBird and web mail.

That being said, one can't argue with success.

 Receiving mail is ok; Sending mail without attachment is ok;
Googling the net to find for possible fix but no luck. Aside form that

I also notice that few websites are loading too slow or just loading

Checked on my interface card and I've noticed that my MTU was set to 1500.
I edit the interfaces file, set MTU to 1492 and reboot my computer.
Go back to the website that has a problem loading and it works fine now :).
Launch Evolution and re-create email w/ attachment, VIOLA!!! the problem

I am using Moomex theme from here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Moomex-Theme?content=57063

But I believe it would happen with other themes too. Also, it have never
happened under 8.0.4.

[Bug 298387] [NEW] disk mounter panel show blank icons

2008-11-15 Thread Tien Nguyen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

After upgraded to Intrepid, 8.10, the Disk Mounter panel, sometime (about
50%-50%), won't display the icons. All items are there as I hover the mouse
over the white blank area, I still see the pop up text showing what disk drive
is it and I can also left click to perform Mount/Open/Unmount.
Remove the panel item and add it back will fix it. Sometime is just work at
boot up sometime it just went blank.

Strange!

 Good Evening.
I solved this problem by going into the properties of the folder and changing
Opens with from gedit to Open folder'. When I realized how simple the
fix really was I felt quite annoyed with myself for not figuring it out
 sooner.
Thank you for you time and patience.

[Bug 290287] [NEW] Memo view can not be printed or copied/pasted

[Bug 290287] Re: Memo view can not be printed or copied/pasted

2008-10-28 Thread Tien Nguyen
Pedro,
About the printing: I found out that if I click the Print button on the tool
bar then it will print out the whole list of the memos. But if I right click on
the particular memo and then choose the Print... option then it will print
out that particular memo. I guess I must read the Evolution manual then.

As for the text selection, it is easy to reproduce. Just select the memo
and down in the preview window, select the text. After that I click the
Copy button on the tool bar, I expect the selected text will be in the
Copy/Paste buffer but it is not. I can not open gedit and paste the
text. Also, right clicked on the selected text does not offer any pop up
menu as it does for other text selectable components such as email
previewer.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-08-25 Thread Tien Nguyen
IMHO, this whole smb:// access from nautilus is really not that great.
It is fine for copying files but most applications are not compatible
with this URL, so you can not drop the files with smb:// access into an
application. Another example, if you using Google web mail to compose an
e-mail and want to attach a file, you can browse to the smb:// share and
click on the file URL but then Firefox does not translate the smb:// URL
so it become useless!!

I might as well just use smbmount and mount it to a mount point. I
really hope to see Nautilus/Ubuntu improve in this area.

2008-08-17 Thread Tien Nguyen
Thanks for this reply. I tried the Flash 10 beta, Aug-2008 version from
here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/ and It seems to
resolve the problem. All of the mentioned troubled web site works fine
for me with Flash 10 beta plug in installed.

Still have not used nspluginwrapper.

[Bug 189810] Re: (hardy) Evolution - tasks and/or memo quit unexpectedly when I click on the calendars button

2008-08-02 Thread Tien Nguyen
I think I have found a way to cure this problem. I went to
Edit-Preferences-Calendar and Tasks, select Alarm tab. There I
unchecked the Birthday Anniveraries because I have no data in there.
After that, the problem disappeared. If any one can confirm this, it
would be helpful for the delveloper.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-06-15 Thread Tien Nguyen
Rudolf,

Thanks for your clarification. In my previous post
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/209520/comments/69
the option security = user only refer to the Samba server setting. I
have positive proof that this option on the server indeed fix the
authentication problem for Hardy Samba client. Any other symtomps are
separate issues and it makes this bug more confusing and hard to track.

So if the developer can focus on this authentication issue, he/she may
be able to fix (at least) one problem.

Just to verify one thing here. Is the file /etc/samba/smb.conf reside on the

If it is on the client Ubuntu computer then is the option security =

[Bug 236067] [NEW] gdm crash after Upgraded to Hardy

2008-05-30 Thread Tien Nguyen
Public bug reported:

My system is IBM laptop T42P with ATI FireGL T2 and using restricted
driver.

Everything works fine with Gusty. Now after upgraded to Hardy, I can
reboot and log in fine the first time. But if I log out and then log
back in then one of these two will happen:

1/ After log out, I will get a black screen and the system is completely hung,
must turn off power.
2/ Sometime I got the log in screen back, but after logging in the system is
completely hung, must turn off power.

Has anyone else reported this? Please let me know what info do you need
me to submit.

Re: [Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-05-28 Thread Tien Nguyen
Sebastien,

Here is the steps that I did:
1/ Verify that /etc/samba/sbm.conf has the line: security=user
2/ Create a share on my folder /home/myname/Public. I right licked on
the folder and select Sharing Options and then check the box Share this
folder
3/ Go to another computer that has Hardy desktop installed. Open
Nautilus and hit Ctrl-L to enter smb://samba-host-ip
4/ I will get a password dialog and after entering proper username and
password, I will get access to the Public share as expected.
5/ Now unmount this samba share.
6/ Go to the samba server computer and edit the smb.conf file to change
to security = share, then sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart
7/ Go back to the Hardy desktop computer and enter the same
smb://samba-host-ip this time you will get an empty window, no share
listed. But if you enter smb://samba-host-ip/Public then you will get
the password dialog.
8/ Enter the proper password dialog here and you will get the Failed to
mount... error dialog.

Hope this help you recreate the problem. I am sure hope to have this bug
resolved soon! Let me know if you need more info.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-05-20 Thread Tien Nguyen
@Sebastien Bacher

I posted this in my previous post but here it is again:

I think I found the reason why gvfs on Hardy failed to connect to a
Samba share:

1/ On the server side, if the security mode in sbm.conf is set to user then
Hardy client can connect using gvfs just fine.
2/ If on the server side, the security mode is share then Hardy client that
use gvfs will have problem.
3/ On the Gusty client, it can make the connection as smb://server/share in
either cases.

I tested by changing the single line in the sbm.conf file, in the
[global] section:

security = user

into

security = share

then all Hardy client can not authenticate any more.

So, for now, if anyone run your own Samba server then the work around
would be to use security = user.

Hope this helps and looking forward to the fix.

[Bug 225846] Re: Evolution 2.22.1 on Hardy can not send JPEG attachment

2008-05-06 Thread Tien Nguyen
@Sebastien

1/ Any JPEG would have the problem, large or small. No JPEG attachment, no
problem.
2/ My connection is DSL with 378Kbps upstream.
3/ As I said, it works fine with evolution 2.12.1 and Thunderbird, on the same
network.

[Bug 225846] Re: Evolution 2.22.1 on Hardy can not send JPEG attachment

2008-05-05 Thread Tien Nguyen
@Pedro,
Per your request, I ran evolution 2.22.1 on a brand new account on the same
computer. Still the same problem. As soon as I attached an JPEG image, the
message never get deliver with the same error.

On another hand, Evolution 2.12.1 deliver the same e-mail just fine. I
have Gusty with Evolution 2.12.1 on the same network and it is sending
mail with attachment OK.
