[Bug 1811348] [NEW] ubuntu server 18.04.1 session hangs when updating systemd via ssh session

2019-01-11 Thread Uli.Heller
Public bug reported:

I have installed ubuntu server 18.04 on one of my machines.
I can access the machine only via ssh.

Typically, I run these commands from time to time:

- ssh root@{machine}
- apt-get update
- apt-get upgrade

I observed at least two times now that "apt-get upgrade" doesn't complete. It
hangs
on this:

  ...
  Vorbereitung zum Entpacken von .../libudev1_237-3ubuntu10.11_amd64.deb ...
  Entpacken von libudev1:amd64 (237-3ubuntu10.11) über (237-3ubuntu10.9) ...
  libudev1:amd64 (237-3ubuntu10.11) wird eingerichtet ...
  systemd (237-3ubuntu10.11) wird eingerichtet ...

The ssh session becomes unresponsive.

I am not able to ssh from my desktop into the machine again.
I have to ssh into a neighbor of the machine running within the same subnet.
From that, I
could ssh into the machine and run "netplan apply". Afterwards, everything is
fine.

Please note that I do use policy routing.

Before "netplan apply":
  root@samson:~# ip rule list
  0:from all lookup local
  32766:from all lookup main
  32767:from all lookup default

After "netplan apply":
  root@samson:~# ip rule list
  0:from all lookup local
  0:from {ip-address} lookup 120
  0:from all to {ip-address} lookup 120
  32766:from all lookup main
  32767:from all lookup default

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1782709] Re: Updating systemd kills network on bionic

2018-07-20 Thread Uli.Heller
I examined /var/log/dpkg.log. There is no pause in there. The complete
upgrade process looks pretty normal to my. So I guess it is just a
network configuration issue during the upgrade that prevented my
terminal session from getting updated.

Do I really have to install this package?

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I do have an ubuntu bionic server installation without a graphical interface.
The server
  has two active network adapters, both connected to the internet. One is used
for outgoing
  internet traffic, the other for incoming. The incoming adapter lives on a
public network segment
  (something like 88.236.133.104/29). I do have multiple servers within this
segment.

  Typically, I update the server regularly, meaning:

  * ssh to the incoming adapter: ssh 88.236.133.108
  * apt-get update
  * apt-get upgrade
  * apt-get dist-upgrade
  * apt-get clean
  * reboot

  It used to work ok.

  BUT: Today, "apt-get upgrade" seem to take really long when updating systemd.
  After a could of minutes, I realized that the ssh session became inactive. I
couldn't type
  into it, I had to abort it via ~. .

  * ssh from the internet to the incoming adapter was not working anymore - ssh
88.236.133.108
  * ssh via another server within the public network segment worked
  * ssh 88.236.133.106 -> ssh 88.236.133.108
  * After running "netplan apply" everything was fine again

  Here my netplan configuration (I changed the ip addresses):

  network:
version: 2
renderer: networkd
ethernets:

dhcp4: yes
  eno2:
dhcp4: no
addresses: [88.236.133.108/29]

   table: 120
 - to: 88.236.133.108/32

  Unfortunately, I don't have the console output avalable anymore.
  Shall I provide additional info?

  Best regards, Uli

[Bug 1782709] [NEW] Updating systemd kills network on bionic

2018-07-20 Thread Uli.Heller
Public bug reported:

I do have an ubuntu bionic server installation without a graphical interface.
The server
has two active network adapters, both connected to the internet. One is used
for outgoing

It used to work ok.

BUT: Today, "apt-get upgrade" seem to take really long when updating systemd.
After a could of minutes, I realized that the ssh session became inactive. I
couldn't type

* ssh from the internet to the incoming adapter was not working anymore - ssh

[Bug 1589210] Re: snap remove "core" on classic not allowed

2017-07-21 Thread Uli.Heller
I think I do have a similar issue:

$ snap list
Name  VersionRev   Developer  Notes
core  16-2.26.9  2381  canonical  -

$ sudo snap remove core
error: cannot remove "core": snap "core" is not removable

$ df
...
/dev/loop1  8243282432 0  100% /snap/core/2381
...

$ sudo umount /snap/core/2381

$ sudo snap remove core
core removed

Maybe this helps?

[Bug 1546534] Re: xenial - ubuntu-mate: Wrong keyboard layout after booting into the desktop

2016-02-17 Thread Uli.Heller
Sorry, I guess my bug report is in the wrong section. Is there a way to
move it into the right section? Or shall I create a new bug there?

[Bug 1546534] [NEW] xenial - ubuntu-mate: Wrong keyboard layout after booting into the desktop

2016-02-17 Thread Uli.Heller
Public bug reported:

- fresh install of ubuntu-mate, 64bit - I tried alpha2 and 20160217
- select "German" and "German keyboard, no dead keys"
- complete the installation
- do a reboot -> graphical login -> password -> desktop

- open a terminal window - ctrl-alt-t -> keyboard layout is english, expected
layout is german
- settings - keyboard -> shows "Deutsch - Deutsch (ohne Akzenttasten)" (meaning
German keyboard, no dead keys)
- try it within the text box at the lower part of the dialog -> keyboard layout
is english
- "add" -> German, no dead keys
- try it again
- layout ok, even within the terminal window
- "delete" one of the keyboards, so you don't see the same entry twice

- logout - login -> wrong layout again

- Finalize the installation of the language support (via "Language Support") ->
nothing changes
  After logout - login, the keyboad layout is bad! Changing the setting works
within the current session only

WORK AROUND FOR ME:

 - settings - keyboard -> shows "Deutsch - Deutsch (ohne Akzenttasten)"
(meaning German keyboard, no dead keys)
- "add" -> English (British)
- keep the 2nd keyboard

- logout - login -> German keyboard layout is active now

[Bug 661599] [NEW] lucid: dnsmasq isn't available on the server cd

2010-10-16 Thread Uli.Heller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dnsmasq

I tried to install dnsmasq on an environment without internet access. I
used the ubuntu-10.04.1-server-i386.iso for installing the server.
Afterwards, I tried to install dnsmasq from the cd.

* there is a package dnsmasq-base on the cd
* there is no package dnsmasq on the cd

The start skripts and config files are missing if you'll install
dnsmasq-base without dnsmasq. To me, it looks like dnsmasq-base is
part of main, whereas dnsmasq is part of universe. Pretty
confusing...

Anyway: Thanks for your work, lucid rules :)
