[Bug 1024313] Re: More than one client with nfs home directories will cause freeze
Bad word choice on my side, of course downgrading to NFSv3 is not a fix, but rather a workaround. We have also been using NFSv4 since 10.04 and NFSv3 has problems with lock files, as far as I've heard, so of course NFSv4 needs to be fixed. Additional information (not sure if relevant to this bug but might be): NFSv4 takes a minute or two to mount user home directories after boot so one cannot login right away: bootwait option needs to be added to /etc/fstab in order to make the machine wait until NFS home is mounted and only display the login screen after. Again, this does not happen with NFSv3 and did not happen with NFSv4 on 10.04. Whatever changes were done to NFSv4 since 11.10, they only made things worse. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1024313 Title: More than one client with nfs home directories will cause freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-utils/+bug/1024313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When, say 2, documents are open, it happens that clicking a particular tab activates the aproppriate document, but the 'other' tab is 'on the front'. Same issue on an Intel Atom D425 motherboard, suggested workaround works, but this machine is an OpenLDAP client with over 60 users and a global fix is needed. [Bug 1024313] Re: More than one client with nfs home directories will cause freeze
Same issue here: NFS server running Debian Squeeze amd64 and clients running Ubuntu 12.04 i386 (everything is up-to-date). One 12.04 client can log in just fine; more than one freezes ALL clients which are currently up and causes high (5.0 up from normal 0.5-0.8) load on the NFS server which keeps increasing until the problematic clients are shut down (and just like in the above case, console rarely works, power button or Alt+Printscreen+REISUO is required to switch them off). I am also running OpenLDAP and DHCP there. We inspected tcpdump logs with Wireshark and found NFS complaining about utk 10011 error, which I have found no information about whatsoever. From hours of researching this issue, I'm confident that the problem is in the nfs-common on the client side, since the issue happens no matter whas OS the server is running (10.04, Debian or 12.04 are the ones I've seen mentioned so far). This bug should be given very high priority, since it makes 12.04 clients (and I've read that 11.10 are affected as well) unusable with NFS.

I'm trying to update the package to a new upstream version 1.97 in my bazaar branch, but there is a need to update Debian patches for a new version. I'm not PAM expert, and it's hard for me to decide if some patch was superseded by upstream changes or not. Also I'm afrait to introduce severe security bugs because of lack of knowledge. [Bug 900901]
wine built with -g requires latest (20111012) prelink version when gcc 4.5 so I suspect most or all of overlay problems on modern wine are caused by that (see #30862). That also explains why new gcc doesn't always cause problems and why any changes to CFLAGS (as long as they drop -g) may fix the problem. Note that at least Debian and Ubuntu don't have the new prelink and use -g by default. There are two things to check: 1) The build logs will contain prelink errors after winegcc link commands for kernel32.dll.so and/or ntdll.dll.so such as prelink: kernel32.dll.so: Unknown DWARF DW_AT_8465 with block DW_FORM 2) The binaries (kernel32.dll.so and/or ntdll.dll.so) when examined with objdump -h will have usual 0x-based addresses in VMA fields for their sections, instead of 0x7b80- and 0x7bc0-based respectively. Of course if the prelink version used is old and binaries were built with -g there is nothing else to check, the reason is obvious. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/900901 Title: Steam overlay does not work due to GCC-4.6 issues To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wine/+bug/900901/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1003583] Re: make the --close-all-fds option in lxc-start on by default
My issue is that debugging is made harder - errors can be highly non- obvious because the default shell behavior is to pass the FDs through, and they could have been inserted many processes upstream depending on where you're calling the program from. [Bug 1000230] [NEW] Firefox doesn't respond to input/output
Public bug reported: A bug that appers every now and then. I have deleted '.mozilla' folder - doesn't help. Bug description: Firefox window kinda freezes. I.e. it cannot be scrolled with a mouse, any text that I type on the keyboard doesn't appear, changes on the web-page are not displayed. However, Firefox does get my input, it is only the display that freezes. Because when it gets out of this state, I see on the screen what should've been if everything went Ok. For example: google search results are ready, even though nothing appeared when I typed the query. Q: How does Firefox get out of this state ? A: Window size change solves the problem. No matter if the window is maximized or not - un-maximizing or maximizing the window accordingly, releases this stuck display. Re: [Bug 961597] Re: A window behaves _like_ it were pinned (always on top)
No. Firefox was open when I opened a note. The note is small - it doesn't cover all the screen, so I went to Firefox, when the note window is on the top. I clicked a link ... Now I expected Firefox to go to foreground, but no - the note stayed at the foreground. There is another similar behavior ... Let's say I have a gnome-terminal maximized or half-maximized (top half-screen) ... Now I open Nautilus by pressing Nautilus icon on Unity bar. Since at the moment of pressing Unity bar is exposed (I use the dodge mode), the Nautilus window opens beside Unity bar. When I move the mouse, the Unity bar hides, and I have a strip of gnome-terminal between the edge of the screen and Nautilus window, where the Unity bar was. I click this strip of gnome-terminal ... Expected: gnome-terminal goes to foreground, Nautilus to background. Reality: nothing happens. All these things do not happen all the time, but are very not unusual.
