[Bug 1024313] Re: More than one client with nfs home directories will cause freeze

2012-07-17 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Bad word choice on my side, of course downgrading to NFSv3 is not a fix,
but rather a workaround. We have also been using NFSv4 since 10.04 and
NFSv3 has problems with lock files, as far as I've heard, so of course
NFSv4 needs to be fixed.

Additional information (not sure if relevant to this bug but might be):
NFSv4 takes a minute or two to mount user home directories after boot so
one cannot login right away: bootwait option needs to be added to
/etc/fstab in order to make the machine wait until NFS home is mounted
and only display the login screen after. Again, this does not happen
with NFSv3 and did not happen with NFSv4 on 10.04. Whatever changes were
done to NFSv4 since 11.10, they only made things worse.

[Bug 1025483] [NEW] gedit tab label doesn't belong to currently active document

2012-07-16 Thread Andrey Gelman
Public bug reported:

Every now and then it happens ...
When, say 2, documents are open, it happens that clicking a particular tab
activates the aproppriate document, but the 'other' tab is 'on the front'. At

[Bug 1010964] Re: Precise on Intel N10 Graphics detects two displays when there is only one

2012-07-16 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Same issue on an Intel Atom D425 motherboard, suggested workaround
works, but this machine is an OpenLDAP client with over 60 users and a
global fix is needed.

I think it has something to do with Ubuntu recognizing these
motherboards as laptop (they have quite a few laptop components, even
RAM is in a laptop form-factor on this board) and assuming there ought
to be an internal screen.

We did some more testing and I should mention that the problem is fixed
by switching to/forcing NFSv3, which is also the default before

[Bug 1024313] Re: More than one client with nfs home directories will cause freeze

2012-07-13 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Same issue here: NFS server running Debian Squeeze amd64 and clients
running Ubuntu 12.04 i386 (everything is up-to-date). One 12.04 client
can log in just fine; more than one freezes ALL clients which are
currently up and causes high (5.0 up from normal 0.5-0.8) load on the
NFS server which keeps increasing until the problematic clients are shut
down (and just like in the above case, console rarely works, power
button or Alt+Printscreen+REISUO is required to switch them off). I am
also running OpenLDAP and DHCP there.

We inspected tcpdump logs with Wireshark and found NFS complaining about
utk 10011 error, which I have found no information about whatsoever.

From hours of researching this issue, I'm confident that the problem is
in the nfs-common on the client side, since the issue happens no matter
whas OS the server is running (10.04, Debian or 12.04 are the ones I've
seen mentioned so far).

This bug should be given very high priority, since it makes 12.04
clients (and I've read that 11.10 are affected as well) unusable with
NFS.

[Bug 1019994] [NEW] pam_ssh has been removed

2012-07-02 Thread Andrey Bondarenko
Public bug reported:

The package is effectively orphaned in Debian and Ubuntu. Debian package
maintainer Jens Peter Secher retired in since July 2011 (see
https://nm.debian.org/public/person/jps). In December 2012 the package
was removed from Debian unstable because of looking abandoned and has
multiple problems.

Package has low popcon so Debian developers decide not to support it any
further. I'm trying to update the package to a new upstream version 1.97
in my bazaar branch, but there is a need to update Debian patches for a
new version. I'm not PAM expert, and it's hard for me to decide if some
patch was superseded by upstream changes or not. Also I'm afrait to
introduce severe security bugs because of lack of knowledge.

Currently, package is in works for me state, but it is updated to
upstream version 1.97 and all debian patches on top of 1.92 disabled
because of conflicts. Brach uploaded to launchpad, and packages for
precise available in my PPA. Unfortunatelly, I don't have enough free
time to become package maintainer, sorry.

Also, I can confirm that unreleased version 1:3.5.4~rc2-0ubuntu1~ppa1

[Bug 900901]

2012-06-12 Thread Andrey Rahmatullin
wine built with -g requires latest (20111012) prelink version when gcc
4.5 so I suspect most or all of overlay problems on modern wine are
caused by that (see #30862). That also explains why new gcc doesn't
always cause problems and why any changes to CFLAGS (as long as they
drop -g) may fix the problem. Note that at least Debian and Ubuntu don't
have the new prelink and use -g by default.

There are two things to check:

1) The build logs will contain prelink errors after winegcc link
commands for kernel32.dll.so and/or ntdll.dll.so such as prelink:
kernel32.dll.so: Unknown DWARF DW_AT_8465 with block DW_FORM

2) The binaries (kernel32.dll.so and/or ntdll.dll.so) when examined with
objdump -h will have usual 0x-based addresses in VMA fields for
their sections, instead of 0x7b80- and 0x7bc0-based
respectively.

Of course if the prelink version used is old and binaries were built
with -g there is nothing else to check, the reason is obvious.

Hi !
I'm not so sure this is a Nouveau issue ...
I actually use a proprietary NVidia driver. The

'xserver-xorg-video-nouveau'

was merely a left-over after installing the NVidia driver. I have
removed it, however the problem persists.
Pay attention, we have no sign of this in other applications, including

 Hi !
I'm not so sure this is a Nouveau issue ...
I actually use a proprietary NVidia driver. The

 'xserver-xorg-video-nouveau'

was merely a left-over after installing the NVidia driver. I have
removed it, however the problem persists.
Pay attention, we have no sign of this in other applications, including
 the gnome-terminal.
You also have compiz listed (which I looked for earlier but did not see).
That's been an ongoing source of bugs misreported against xterm for the
 past few years.

[Bug 1007722] [NEW] xterm doesn't display all the information

2012-06-01 Thread Andrey Gelman
Public bug reported:

Regular output in XTerm results in a few blanked (black) lines in the top or
bottom of the window.
It happens when some application prints out something - top of windows stays
black.
It happens when I scroll the window contens with the mouse wheel - top or
bottom of the window (depending on scrolling direction) remains black.

This problem persists from Oneiric, and was observed (by me) on
different computers.

[Bug 160426] Re: keepalived using genhash keeps getting zombied and using CPU to a 100%

2012-05-31 Thread Andrey Oleynik
I have the same problem.

Keepalived v1.1.17 (02/10,2010)

Config:

virtual_server localhost 8443 {

delay_loop 5
protocol TCP

real_server localhost 8443 {

notify_up logger -p daemon.warn -t Keepalived 'Proxy UP';
notify_down logger -p daemon.err -t Keepalived 'Proxy DOWN,
restarting...'; service vrrp restart; service nginx restart

SSL_GET {
url {
  path /stub
  status_code 200
}
connect_port8443
connect_timeout 3
delay_before_retry 3
}
}

real_server localhost 8443 {

notify_up logger -p daemon.warn -t Keepalived 'VRRPd UP';
notify_down logger -p daemon.err -t Keepalived 'VRRPd DOWN,
restarting...'; service vrrp restart

The problem is reproduced after rebooting the computer. It is writing the
following messages to log:
May 31 18:24:36 int-top-lb2 Keepalived: Remove a zombie pid file
/var/run/checkers.pid
May 31 18:24:36 int-top-lb2 Keepalived: Starting Healthcheck child process,

Yes, this porblem happens right after a reboot and if I try to restart
the service result the same.

I'm obtaining an IP dynamically by VRRP. It has one statically
configured IP and additionally gets second if this computer becomes
master router.

[Bug 1003583] [NEW] make the --close-all-fds option in lxc-start on by default

2012-05-23 Thread Andrey Kislyuk
Public bug reported:

Since the lxc-start command quits with an error if any inherited FDs are
not disconnected, why is it necessary to specify --close-all-fds at all?

(I just spent an hour debugging a situation where some FDs were falling
through from parent processes only in the remote deployment
configuration...)

[Bug 1003583] Re: make the --close-all-fds option in lxc-start on by default

2012-05-23 Thread Andrey Kislyuk
My issue is that debugging is made harder - errors can be highly non-
obvious because the default shell behavior is to pass the FDs through,
and they could have been inserted many processes upstream depending on
where you're calling the program from.

If you decide to release a fix for this in Precise, now would be the
time while it's fresh and adoption is low.

Also, inherited fd from parent followed by a crash was a bit hard to
follow for me. Maybe add on something like Inheritance of FDs is not
allowed. Use --close-all-fds to close them.

[Bug 1000230] [NEW] Firefox doesn't respond to input/output

2012-05-16 Thread Andrey Gelman
Public bug reported:

A bug that appers every now and then.
I have deleted '.mozilla' folder - doesn't help.
Bug description:
Firefox window kinda freezes. I.e. it cannot be scrolled with a mouse, any text
that I type on the keyboard doesn't appear, changes on the web-page are not
displayed.
However, Firefox does get my input, it is only the display that freezes.
Because when it gets out of this state, I see on the screen what should've been
if everything went Ok. For example: google search results are ready, even
though nothing appeared when I typed the query.
Q: How does Firefox get out of this state ?
A: Window size change solves the problem. No matter if the window is maximized
or not - un-maximizing or maximizing the window accordingly, releases this
stuck display.

[Bug 999773] [NEW] Unity bar appears UNDER other windows

2012-05-15 Thread Andrey Gelman
Public bug reported:

In dodge mode ...
None of the open windows is always on top set.
When I take the mouse to the left, the Unity bar goes out, but ... it is
overlayed by other windows, as it was just another window.
After accessing some lense, the bar returned to its normal behaviour.

Andrey, this was a decision made by the Unity design team to change the

The reason was to support laptop users who don't have a numeric keypad.

If you would like to change the shortcuts, run 'ccsm' and look in Window
Management Grid Bindings. There you can change the shortcuts to
 whatever you like.

[Bug 993443] Re: Wireless takes a lot longer to come up (BCM4313) since kernel update

2012-05-06 Thread Andrey Raugas
I have this problem, though after that update my laptop didn't boot at
all. It didn't boot with the previous kernel either. I managed to boot
recovery mode and figured out that downgrading from bcmwl-5.100.82.38
+bdcom-0ubuntu6.1 to bcmwl-5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu6 allowed to boot
normally.

[Bug 989601] [NEW] mipmapping crashes rotate cube and application switcher on compiz

2012-04-27 Thread Andrey
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
2) Compiz 0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1

I updated to the new Ubuntu 12.04 LTS release and compiz stopped working
with rotating cube and application switcher. I tried nvidia-current-
updates and nvidia-current 295.40-0ubuntu1 with GeForce 6600.

Further investigation shows that the reason is in mipmapping option
turrned on for rotating cube and application switcher compiz plugins. If
I turn off this option everything is working well.

The program 'soffice' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Possibly. I think any problem with anything _might_ be considered a
problem with anything, but Unity. Especially, if you follow an advice by
some and don't use Unity.
Eventually, OS is an host. If your guests don't feel comfortable, you
have a bug.
Don't provide me explanations; you think Ubuntu has problems in
interoperability with SlickEdit, contact them !

[Bug 984968] [NEW] SlickEdit cannot create fully functional icon on Unity bar

2012-04-18 Thread Andrey Gelman
Public bug reported:

I run the famous (proprietary) code editor: SlickEdit (with license).
Run from the desktop shortcut, or from the commandline, it creates the icon on
Unity bar, that behaves Ok.
However, if I select keep in launcher, the icon will stay, but it will not be
able to actually launch something.

Well, after getting latest updates I checked if there is still the bug.
It seems to me there is no that bug anymore. All works perfectly.

[Bug 961597] [NEW] A window behaves _like_ it were pinned (always on top)

2012-03-21 Thread Andrey Gelman
Public bug reported:

In the backgroud / full screen we have Firefox (v 11.0).
In the foreground a Tomboy note.
I click links in the Web-page, the Tomboy note stays on top like it were

Re: [Bug 961597] Re: A window behaves _like_ it were pinned (always on top)

2012-03-21 Thread Andrey Gelman
No.
Firefox was open when I opened a note. The note is small - it doesn't
cover all the screen, so I went to Firefox, when the note window is on
the top. I clicked a link ...
Now I expected Firefox to go to foreground, but no - the note stayed at
the foreground.

There is another similar behavior ...
Let's say I have a gnome-terminal maximized or half-maximized (top
half-screen) ...
Now I open Nautilus by pressing Nautilus icon on Unity bar. Since at the
moment of pressing Unity bar is exposed (I use the dodge mode), the
Nautilus window opens beside Unity bar. When I move the mouse, the Unity
bar hides, and I have a strip of gnome-terminal between the edge of the
screen and Nautilus window, where the Unity bar was. I click this strip
of gnome-terminal ... Expected: gnome-terminal goes to foreground,
Nautilus to background. Reality: nothing happens.

All these things do not happen all the time, but are very not unusual.
