[Bug 748340] Re: btrfsck fails with unsupported option features, must [ignore] to boot
@John Lewis I think compression cannot be an exclusive cause of the issue, seeing how me and whakim have not touched compression and are seing this. What does the btrfsck tool from debian unstable report in your case with you compression setup, I would assume this might be different? It could be that there are several issues all reporting the same nondescript error. Compression would be a very logical explanation though, if the userspace fsck is simply outdated compared to the kernel btrfs code. I still maintain that enabling btrfsck at all was a big mistake... I was never meant to be used like this. ...I wonder if it wold be possible to reproduce this error using only snapshots and balancing, since that would explain the non-compression cases... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748340 Title: btrfsck fails with unsupported option features, must [ignore] to boot -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 732149] Re: [natty] btrfs grub-probe: error: unknown filesystem
Just marked my Bug #752506 as a dupe of this. I've had some luck reproducing this issue by repeatedly reinstalling the linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic and linux-headers2.6.38-8-generic packages, alternatively. I've also quite often been able to get btrfs out of this un-probe-able state by just creating a standard snapshot: mount /dev/sda5 /mnt btrfs subvolume snapshot /mnt/@ /mnt/@$(date +%s) But as mentioned it comes and goes very randomly still. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732149 Title: [natty] btrfs grub-probe: error: unknown filesystem -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 748340] Re: btrfsck fails with unsupported option features, must [ignore] to boot
Semi-rectraction of previous statement: Turns out the reason it was booting was simply that it was failing due to the extra -a flag and skipping the fsck entirely. I did not manage to apply the latest ubuntu change to the debian experimental version (and I know to little to resolve the merge there I think) However, Simply grabbing the btrfsck binary from debian experimental and running it alongside the ubuntu version on the latest liveCD, the ubuntu one fails with the error above, whereas the debian exp succeeds to run the fsck.

[Bug 574287] Re: tasksel uninstalled my system!
I've tested this on current Debian testing, and the problem exists, but is less problematic, since there seems to be much less overlap in the Debian tasks. However one example is if the tasks: ~t^desktop. ~t^gnome-desktop and ~t^laptop, are installed and then the ~t^laptop task is removed. This will result in the removal of e.g. wpasupplicant, network-manager and network-manager-gnome, all of which are also a part of the ~t^gnome-desktop task. I will take this upstream to Debian. I've been told that the package sets are indeed defined by tasksel, hence the apt task would be invalid. ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Also affects: tasksel (Debian) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- tasksel uninstalled my system! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 592336] Re: Removal of aptitude from base installation
Updated description with references to the decision. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: aptitude It has come to our attention that the developers want remove aptitude from the base installation again. Most of us that run a testing version use aptitude safe-upgrade, in order to not break the installation when upgrading new packages, especially when we've been notified of new packages that could cause severe breakage. I find aptitude with it's options is a very useful tool during testing, removing it will make the job a lot harder. + + NOTES ON THE DECISION + (This is based on a conversation with Colin Watson on IRC and the references given) + The initial rationale is basically size; approximately 2MB (which in the scope of things are very precious on the liveCD) will be gained by removing tasksel and aptitude. + + The initial reason why aptitude was included in ubuntu was that the + desktop installer (ubiquity) depended on it, but now the desktop + installer has been rewritten to not require it unless in particular + cases, and hence it goes. + + The alternate install CD will still install aptitude and tasksel, since + the debian-installer which is used in installation requires it. + + Likewise the server install of ubuntu will still include it (presumably + also since it uses debian-installer) + + This was part of the Maverick Spring Cleaning which was discussed during UDS-M and is specified here: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubu...pring-cleaning + As Install tasksel and aptitude dynamically + + More info here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FoundationsT...SpringCleaning + We could substantially reduce the size of the minimal seed by installing tasksel and aptitude dynamically, so that we don't end up with them on live-installed systems. We will still need to keep tasksel in the server seed. [Bug 510571] Re: Lucid guest won't boot with acpi in virtualbox
@undefined: Yes, I'm aware of that problem, but as stated earlier, it does not seem as though the patch here fixes it, so presumably there are more issues in need of addressing in the hardy version of virtualbox. And I really don't have many a clue on how to do so. Since the version in hardy is quite old there are a lot of revisions that have gone into vbox since, and the way to solve it would be to figure out what specific revision(s), presumably in addition to the ones in this here patch, which does address the issue. Or simply request that a later version of virtualbox be put in the -backports repository, which may be added by users if need be. I do not intend to poke any further in this matter currently. -- Lucid guest won't boot with acpi in virtualbox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510571 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 526849] Re: pastes to pastebin.com no longer work
Well I've tested on both with success, however I was thinking it'd be appropriate that someone confirmed it independently... I'm not sure exactly how the policy goes there. Also, regading Hardy. One option would be to simply switch the default site to paste.ubuntu.com for hardy, it's a horrible cop-out, but it's a very simplesafe change, I guess {all other considerations ignored (fact that pastebin.com is the proper default)}. -- pastes to pastebin.com no longer work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526849 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 588478] Re: RuntimeError: Can not find port of couchdb.
I can also confirm the above, if gwibber is invoked with sudo, it starts up seemingly fine (despite errors). Strangely enough, it does not when using gksu, in which case this error is seen: ** (gwibber:2396): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'WnckWindowActions' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags' ** (gwibber:2396): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'WnckWindowMoveResizeMask' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags' Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/bin/gwibber, line 47, in module from gwibber.microblog.util import log File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/gwibber/microblog/util/__init__.py, line 3, in module import log File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/gwibber/microblog/util/log.py, line 9, in module mkdir(cache_dir) OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/root/.cache/gwibber' -- RuntimeError: Can not find port of couchdb. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588478 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: Why do some updates skip proposed? (launchpad bug 589163)
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 On 03/06/10 18:16, James Hogarth wrote: Hey all, Quick question for anyone that can give a quick answer... The kernel released for lucid last night (2.6.32-22.35) broke kvm guests - prevented them from starting. The kernel that was in proposed (2.6.32-22.33) has no problems. Looking at launchpad it looks like 2.6.32-22.35 never hit proposed and went straight to updates/security: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/2.6.32-22.35/+publishinghistory Given that this broke KVM guests on an LTS release no less (and kvm is pushed by Ubuntu as the virtualisation system to use) it presents a reasonably serious problem. How did this get straight to release with no testing in proposed? What is the point of having proposed for bug testing if a released package never goes through it - especially for something as critically important to the core system as the kernel? Hopefully the issue can be fixed soon so those of us who use KVM on Lucid are able to use the latest kernel with any bug fixes again.. As it is anyone with this issue cannot get a fix from Ubuntu as a vendor for the following CVE's as they are part of the update that broke kvm: CVE-2010-0419 CVE-2010-1162 CVE-2010-1488 CVE-2010-1148 CVE-2010-1146 CVE-2009-4537 And if they don't have the savvy (or are unwilling to run a 'proposed' kernel) to obtain the 2.6.32-22.33 kernel directly from the launchpad build page they will also be missing updates for launchpad bugs 526354 and 567016. Any thoughts on this issue? Regards, James As stated on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelUpdates: * Security updates will be uploaded directly into -security without other changes. This just requires a temporary GIT fork which will be immediately merged back into the main branch for that stable release. * Normal updates will be provided as pre-releases through the kernel-ppa users PPA. At certain points those get made into proposed releases which are uploaded to the proposed pocket. Then again they have to get verified to fix the problems and not to cause regressions. As far as I know, this applies to most security updates, skipping the - -proposed step Whether or not this policy is a good one, is a matter of discussion, since it obviously failed this one. Would more testing, which would mean a slower procedure for getting the security fixes through, be a viable compromise in some cases? What kind of testing is already in place by the security team? Could that be expanded? - - arand -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkwIHE4ACgkQ67RiDgo9GiNR8QCghLwEDutw3x6i3YhxWJHlLrx4 xf0Anjle/R4uciiMfMGOfylk/AJZ2E8O =ImT2 -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
[Bug 588478] Re: RuntimeError: Can not find port of couchdb.
Here, I do not have a .log.1 but only .log in that directory, and what it shows is simply: [Wed, 02 Jun 2010 20:14:25 GMT] [info] [0.2.0] Apache CouchDB has started on http://127.0.0.1:36868/ Which I presume indicates that it started fine when the machine started.
