[Bug 472785] Re: can't register SC

2010-10-12 Thread chris grzegorczyk
The underlying problem seems to have been a bug in registering a
component again w/ the same name. This has been resolved. As
mentioned, moving the SC is not a supported operation as there is alot
of dependent state which would need to be moved for it to work
correctly.

[Bug 609112] Re: [maverick] Registration unreliable

I am not sure if i have understood the issue here correctly. Is it
specific to --register-nodes or does it also effect

causing problems, could you see if the current r1220 resolves the
problem for them (it does not address nodes).

So, yes, it seems something in packaging (requiring the cloud .jar?).

[Bug 609112] Re: [maverick] Registration unreliable

2010-08-10 Thread chris grzegorczyk
I am not sure if i have understood the issue here correctly. Is it
specific to --register-nodes or does it also effect
--register-{cluster,walrus,sc}? If cluster, walrus, sc were also
causing problems, could you see if the current r1220 resolves the
problem for them (it does not address nodes).

[Bug 613033] Re: eucalyptus-cloud: cloud fails to start on separate install

2010-08-10 Thread chris grzegorczyk
@carlos: sorry, i missed your message.

Can you try installing all of the components on each machine but only
running Walrus, SC? This looks like it might be a matter of how things
are packaged on our end.

I will try to reproduce on our side and get back ASAP.

2010-08-10 Thread chris grzegorczyk
Hmmm. I will get back to you with a fix soon. Hopefully I can manage
to resolve the issue w/o any code changes. More shortly.

OK. I installed eucalyptus-cloud on the (CC+SC) machine, and restarted
the SC and CC. They *are* up, and the CLC recognised them. I will now
install the NCs, and see what happens.

So, yes, it seems something in packaging (requiring the cloud .jar?).

This bug has long been irrelevant and should be closed.

That is all addressed by adding the
--log-level={TRACE,DEBUG,INFO,WARN,ERROR,FATAL} flag in:
- 1.6.2 you need to add it to OPTS in the eucalyptus-cloud init script
- devel add it to CLOUD_OPTS in eucalyptus.conf

@Scott: The command is supposed to return the last 64K of console
output. Your results are expected in that case. See the first note

As for the time, it should be timing out after 20 seconds -- are you
not seeing that behaviour?

If I ssh to the node controller, and look at
 /var/lib/eucalyptus/instances/admin/i-4537075F/console.log I see that the
count went all the way to 4999.

Note, I've waited minutes after the VM wrote the data before getting console
output, it doesn't seem like just a (resonable) caching issue.

Also note, that the get-console-output takes an extremely long amount of time

So the problem here is that Owner and RestorableBy were misnamed
(OwnerSet and RestorableBySet, respectively). No change should be
needed to euca2ools or boto.

@Andrew What Thierry says is correct. More specifically, we need to
provide extra information for admins, but for many tools the normal

[Bug 538546] Re: please move /etc/eucalyptus/cloud.d/scripts to /usr/lib/eucalyptus/cloud.d/scripts

2010-03-13 Thread chris grzegorczyk
First, scripts really shouldn't be installed in /etc. /etc should
really only contain configuration information that an Administrator or
distro might need to edit.

This is exactly what they are -- configuration scripts. In each case
they are scripts only because there may be a need for the administrator
to edit them. The directory name is misleading it seems, it should be
'config'. They are similar to /etc/default and /etc/{init.d,rc.d} in
their use.

The Import scripts are indeed different and can be moved to where ever
FHS demands. Nonetheless, that is not going to solve the problem as the
import scripts depend on the configuration information that is in the
others. Specifically, bootstrapping the database to do the update needs
to configure it correctly, so, it depends on the configuration
information.

It sounds like the hack you have works around the problem in dpkg, for
now. Do you have any other suggestions?

cheers.

Might be a problem in eucalyptus rather than in the cloud image (metadata
