[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-09-27 Thread eiver
Is there any way, an ordinary user experiencing this bug could provide
enough information to resolve the problem? The bug seems random in
nature, so it must be some kind of a race condition, but still I have a
feeling it should be easy to fix (although I do not know linux/ubuntu
well enough to provide a fix).

2011-06-02 Thread eiver
Thank you Tim for the warning. I was just about to update... luckily I
read your post first.

Please elevate the importance of this bug if you can. A security update,
which causes one of the main services to completely stop working and
destroys server configuration without any warning is a *critical*
problem.

[Bug 661735] Re: Black screen on video playback

Its not fglrx. I have gtx 570 and have the same problem. Tried drives
from the repos as well as drivers directly from the nvidia site. xv
doesn't work. The workaround posted above works, but not using xv causes
tearing while watching a video.

[Bug 323649] Re: Failure to open YouTube videos Could Not Open Location; you might not have permission to play the file. misleading

2010-09-06 Thread eiver
You have youtube plugin enabled and this is correct. The problem is,
that youtube plugin itself contains an error (a bug). I have released a
fix for this error (available above in this topic), but the fix is for
programmers, because the error is located in the youtube plugins source
code.

Someone responsible for Ubuntu repositories should pick up my fix,
verify that it works and release it. An ordinary user should receive the
fix automatically as one of the updates. No additional action necessary.

However for some reason nobody at Ubuntu bothered to release my fix to
the Ubuntu repos and it has been more than a month since I released the
fix. The only thing you can do is to kick someones ass at Ubuntu, so
they can hurry up or you can learn a little bit about programming and
apply my fix yourself on your computer.

[Bug 323649] Re: Failure to open YouTube videos Could Not Open Location; you might not have permission to play the file. misleading

2010-08-02 Thread eiver
That depends on you. You can wait until its in the repos, or do it
yourself. I prefer to have an official version from the repos together
with the patched version (in case I screw something in the source code).

The file is in totem-2.30.2.tar.bz2 which can be downloaded from the main
totem page.
Its located in: your unpacked folder/src/plugins/youtube/totem-youtube.c

These are the lines used to construct the movie uri:

529: video_uri_string = g_string_new
(http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=;);
530: g_string_append_uri_escaped (video_uri_string, video_id, NULL, TRUE);
531: g_string_append (video_uri_string, t=);
532: g_string_append_uri_escaped (video_uri_string, t_param, NULL, TRUE);
533: g_string_append (video_uri_string, fmt_param);

Youtube now requires a mendatory asv= parameter in the uri, so you
just need to add one line after the above code:

534: g_string_append (video_uri_string, asv=);

Indeed the problem cause was youtube changed their links. One line of
changes fixes the problem for Totem 2.30.2.

Caution:
This is my very first fix for anything under Linux.
I learned how to compile the source code under Linux yesterday.
The fix should be verified by a more experienced developer.

[Bug 497512] Re: Input freeze on udev update while on Live CD

2010-01-06 Thread eiver
Thanks to wonderful Mint community I finally managed to install Mint 8 on a HDD
and see how the bug looks from there.
It seems that the scope of the bug is smaller than I initially thought. A
reboot fixes the problem. The bug only exists if you update udev and log out,
but do not reboot the whole system.

This means that for a HDD installation the severity of this bug is
small, but for a LiveCD a reboot is not an option for obvious reasons.

[Bug 497512] Re: Input freeze on udev update while on Live CD

2010-01-04 Thread eiver
Thanks. That should fix the problem for Mint.
I just finished downloading and burning Ubuntu Karmic x64. As expected the bug
also occurs there. I marked, that the bug also occurs in ubuntu. If we get a
permanent fix for that from Ubuntu team, then it will be possible to reduce the
level of the update back to 3.

A typical user does not need to log out often, however this bug is
particularly annoying for people with nvidia graphic cards, which
require a reboot (or gdm restart) after installing their proprietary
drivers.

Confirmed, that the patch solves problem if Scale Mouse Pointer is
checked.

But the complete solution should work even if that check-box is not
checked. What if someone wants to see an original (not scaled) pointer
and still interact with the zoomed and locked desktop.

I also have this problem, but only if I very quickly after startup try

succeed.

On the other hand if I wait a while after startup before connecting,
then the first attempt will succeed.

Is something loading at startup and is required for the VPN connection?
