Do you forget any inputs like username/password. Usually there will be some
authentication process involved while connecting to internet. I am saying
this from my experience with bsnl evdo it may not be the case of other
providers like TATA photon.

For BSNL envo there are some text boxes in network manager to add phone
number and password. Please check if there is any thing like that in you
system...

Re: [ubuntu-in] Fwd: How to start my career in linux programming

2010-06-23 Thread BR!j!TH
Hi,

How long you have been using Linux ?

To start with Linux programming you will have to have a good understanding
how things are working in Linux.
Also you must be familiar with Linux commands and shell scripting. Yes, I
think you can start with learning shell scripting .It will help you to a
great extend. Python is another easy to learn, of course, a powerful
language to start with.

To start with Shell try http://linuxcommand.org/
and for python http://docs.python.org/tutorial/

Re: [ubuntu-in] unable to connect with BSNL EVDO in Karmic

2010-02-22 Thread BR!j!TH
Following things are description for *usb-modeswitch *got from synaptic

*Several new USB devices have their proprietary Windows drivers onboard,*
*especially WAN dongles. When plugged in for the first time, they act*
*like a flash storage and start installing the driver from there. If*
*the driver is already installed, the storage device vanishes and*
*a new device, such as an USB modem, shows up. This is called the*
*"ZeroCD" feature.*
*
*
*On Debian, this is not needed, since the driver is included as a*
*Linux kernel module, such as "usbserial". However, the device still*
*shows up as "usb-storage" by default. usb-modeswitch solves that*
*issue by sending the command which actually performs the switching*
*of the device from "usb-storage" to "usbserial".*

In the above paragraph they says if the device is not detected as a model
then we can use this tool. But in my case the device is getting detected as
modem device (The network manager window is popping up when I pug in the
device..)

cannot find BSNL,I can see TATA photon, reliance net connect etc.
It was there in Ubuntu 9.04 iand It was working fine.

[ubuntu-in] how the file rc.local and command update-rc.d are related

2010-02-13 Thread BR!j!TH
Hi all,
when I googled for methods to run scripts automatically at boot time, I
found some where to use the command *update-rc.d*. Some others suggesting
add an entry in *rc.local* file under /etc. I have tried the rc.local method
with one of the script I written but its not working in proper way. This
Issue I have already raised in this list

Can any one tell me the difference between the two method I mentioned above
?

Thanks

2010-02-12 Thread BR!j!TH
Hi,

I have created a client server scripts in python. The server script is to
be run background in a system all the time..
So I decided to put it in rc.local. But its not working. I don't know why
..?
An interesting thing is the script that I added in rc.local in running but
it is not working in desired why ...
But when I run the script manually in a terminal its working flawlessly...

Dear All,

In My office we are thinking to upgrade entire systems to ubuntu 9.10 before
that I had to check all of our tools and stuffs works well in Ubuntu 9.10 as
it is doing in 9.04.

But

   1. Glade interface designed in ubuntu 9.04 is coming distorted when it
opened in glade of ubuntu 9.10.
   2. Also When I tried to configure moin wiki following the guide
   https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/serverguide/C/moinmoin.html, I got the wiki
working but the problem is when I copied the pages from our old moin (as
mentioned in guide ) wiki most if the links results in error.

can any one help us ..

Only these two issues are stopping us from upgrading ...

Re: [ubuntu-in] OT: Taking tux (and Ubuntu) for a run

2009-11-02 Thread BR!j!TH
Hai all,
My case is entirely different. Of course I am working in
a small company, when I joined here these people where using Debian in every
system. I could convince my management team to use Ubuntu. I told them
my experiences with Ubuntu (I have been using Ubuntu Since ubuntu 5.10). Now
in our office we run ubuntu 9.04 in 5 systems. Few days back i had a meeting
with management team. They asked me about installing Ubuntu in each and
every system in our office. It was on 29 th oct the day ubuntu 9.10
scheduled to release. I told them about ubuntu 9.10. They told me to install
Ubuntu 9.10 and setup our working environment and test the feasibility. I
told them to wait for couple of weeks so that few updates to come out and
let ubuntu guys fix the obvious bugs.

I am confident that we will be installing Ubuntu 9.10 in every system
replacing Debian and Ubuntu 9.04

:)

Re: [ubuntu-in] Hi all

2009-10-25 Thread BR!j!TH
Hi,

Me too have say the same... I am from Calicut and I have been closely
watching Ubuntu development since my college days ( from ubuntu 5.04). I
could convert few of my friends to ubuntu. Also I could convince my company
management to use Ubuntu. Now here in my office one can only see ubuntu
machines :)

And now I am waiting for Thursday (Ubuntu 9.10 to release)
