[Bug 2049220] Re: Update firmware for MT7921 in order to fix Framework 13 AMD 7040

2024-03-06 Thread Karel Becerra
I can confirm the fix after applying latest firmware!

ISSUE: I was getting intermittent internet dropping (for 5 to 10
seconds) between my MAC OS and my 22.04 Ubuntu server (no lost of
connection from Ubuntu or Mac to internet)

HARDWARE: Motherboard: MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI (mt7921e wifi)

IPV6: I noticed missing ipv6 value after 'ifconfig' command (only local
ipv6 - fe80)

ENVIRONMENT (after fix): Ubuntu 22.04 (jammy)

$ uname -a
Linux azyri 6.5.0-21-generic #21~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Feb  9

HOW TO:
1- wget
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.29_all.deb
2- sudo dpkg -i linux-firmware_20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.29_all.deb
3- sudo reboot now

After applying fix:

[Bug 1915018] [NEW] Misleading error message in lock tests

2021-02-08 Thread Karel Pičman
Public bug reported:

I think that in the error message of getlock method are swapped got and
wanted lock types.

if (scope != reslock.scope) {
t_context("requested lockscope not satisfied! got %s, wanted %s",
  scope == ne_lockscope_exclusive ? "exclusive" : "shared",
  reslock.scope == ne_lockscope_exclusive ?
  "exclusive" : "shared");
ne_unlock(i_session, );
return FAIL;
}

I'd patch it as follows:

line 86 -- t_context("requested lockscope not satisfied! got %s, wanted
%s",

line 86 ++ t_context("requested lockscope not satisfied! wanted %s, got
%s",

** Affects: litmus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: "A patch fixing the reported problem."

[Bug 1874517] [NEW] I/O-error and installation cannot proceed

2020-04-23 Thread Karel Zimmer
Public bug reported:

I thought the USB-stick is in a pristine condition.
One error was reported, but that use to be the case in the old days too.
Continue w/installation and got I/O-error and installation was aborted after
typing in User Name, etc.
Will try later w/another USB-stick though.

[Bug 1872343] [NEW] input is freezing when you have QEMU-KVM / virt-manager window opened

2020-04-12 Thread Karel Trutla
Public bug reported:

When I install Kubuntu 20.04 and then VM with another Kubuntu 20.04
(virt-manager) then keyboard randomly stop responding and Ctrl+c and
Ctrl+v doesn't always work. If I close virt-manager / shutdown the VM
then everything works fine again.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install Kubuntu 20.04
2. install QEMU-KVM and virt-manager
3. install Kubuntu 20.04 as a VM
4. start copying and pasting text inside VM / in the host / between host and VM
(spice has to be installed)
5. you'll see random freezes of your keyboard
6. Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v will work 80% time (very irritating)
7. close virt-manager and Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v will work just fine and no more
keyboard freezes

In other words, it is not possible to use virt-manager unless you use VM
with no desktop.

Thank you. Please ask if you need more details ;-).

[Bug 1798762] [NEW] The dictionary is somehow broken in the last version of deb package

2018-10-19 Thread Karel Kozlik
Public bug reported:

The dictionary is somehow broken in package stardict-english-
czech_20171101-1_all.deb

For example the word "necessary" is translated as:

l>[Zdeněk Brož]
buchar [Zdeněk Brož]
kladívko [Zdeněk Brož]
v:
bušit [Zdeněk Brož]
zabouchat [Zdeněk Brož]
zatlou

It seems that (almost) all words are transalted wrong way.

If I install older package: stardict-english-czech_20170801-1_all.deb it
is working fine.

[Bug 1691636] [NEW] Incorrect timestamps on unzipped files.

2017-05-17 Thread Chris Karel
Public bug reported:

Description of problem:

Unzip will sometimes round up timestamps of unpacked files. This
results in a 1-second difference between the timestamp shown via zipinfo
-T, and the unzipped file on disk

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Zip files with different timestamps.
2. Note the timestamps stored in the archive with `zipinfo -T`
3.  Unzip the archive
4.  Compare the timestamps with `ls --full-time`
5. Note a difference of 1 second on some files.

Actual results:
Timestamps are off by a second on some files

Expected results:
Timestamps should match between zipinfo and ls.

Example -- note the timestamps on file "2"

[Bug 1451256] Re: user "daisy" can log in but user "karel" gets a blank X-screen

2016-04-06 Thread Karel
The behaviour has slightly changed but it seems clear to me that the same issue
is still at work.
At the prahical login, there is now a list of accounts to choose from, it does
include "daisy" but not "karel". There is however a "not listed" to click, and
that allows me to enter "karel" as login, after password validation everything
works as expected.

My understanding was and is that the non-working user "karel", though
mentioned in the basic /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow, is missing from some
other list of users, proper to lightdm. I have however failed to find
such a file, perhaps the account names are encrypted into it?

[Bug 1277146] Re: mount -o loop.... changes the udf image

2015-08-19 Thread Karel Zak
The command mount(8) does not write anywhere, if you see any change in
the filesystem then it's done by kernel filesystem driver.

I guess the confusing thing for users is that mount(8) command calls
mount(2) syscall two times:

# strace -e mount mount /dev/loop0 /mnt/test
mount(/dev/loop0, /mnt/test, udf, MS_MGC_VAL, NULL) = -1 EACCES
(Permission denied)
mount: /dev/loop0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount(/dev/loop0, /mnt/test, udf, MS_MGC_VAL|MS_RDONLY, NULL) = 0

The first attempt failed with EACCES, then mount(8) retry with
MS_RDONLY. This is expected and wanted behaviour. I guess that kernel
udf driver write to the filesystem during the first attempt when it's
read-write.

If you try mount with -o ro then you won't see the issue.

IMHO udf kernel driver is little bit inconsistent. It does not allow to
mount the image read-write, but it modifies the filesystem before it
returns EACCES :-)

[Bug 1451256] [NEW] user daisy can log in but user karel gets a blank X-screen

2015-05-03 Thread Karel
Public bug reported:

When logging in as karel I get a blank X screen, which is perfectly
functional as such - from a terminal I can launch firefox --display :0
and so forth - but user Karel does not get a window manager active. For
newly created user daisy everything works as expected. Not sure this
is a bug, though, the trouble started after some twiddling with adding

[Bug 481656] Re: iBus blocks input in Java application

2014-08-11 Thread Karel Vervaeke
I'm also affected by this on 14.04 with IDEA's IntelliJ. I used to see it on
older releases as well.
ibus restart helps to kick things back into cooperation.
It's hard to reproduce; I would say it happens about 5 times per week on
average, but on a bad day I can get it several times in a matter of an hour or
so.

Keyboard input never gets lost halfway typing something, but always
right after a bit of window/desktop switching. I always switch
windows/desktops using keyboard shortcuts (alt-tab for windows, ctrl-
alt-j/k for desktops). During those I often hit Alt or Super by
accident, opening the HUD or the launcher respectively. I have a strong
feeling, but am not 100% certain that those are involved as well.

[Bug 1028617] Re: Cursor shakes violently when connected to power source - makes touchpad cursor unusable

2013-09-24 Thread Karel
This bug also affects me on Linux Mint 15 Olivia running MATE 1.6.0 as
well as previous Mint versions.

I just tried blegat suggestion at #11 quoting Hutterer, and set y-axis
noise cancellation to 32 (my pointer shakes uncontrollably in the
vertical axis only). So I executed

xinput set-prop SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Synaptics Noise
Cancellation 8 32

and the issue virtually disappeared, making my touchpad usable for the
first time. I will reboot the system, test it for some time, and if find
anything relevant will post back.

The mount(8) from upstream git tree uses MS_SILENT so the warnings
should not be visible any more. If you want to use whitelist then use
/etc/filesystems ... see man page. Note that the current upstream stable

[Bug 1100048] [NEW] Screen partially dimmed after resume in Xubuntu

2013-01-15 Thread Karel Lenc
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Package: xscreensaver 5.15-2ubuntu1

When resuming from suspend (invoked by keyboard interrupt) screen
remains partially dimmed (like a dark cloth over the screen) and only
mouse cursor is displayed in correct colours. I'm using proprietary AMD

Yes, I can confirm this bug (XFCE, Ubuntu 12.04, ATI 4200HD, fglrx non-

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2038250 when dim effect turned
off (Navigate to Settings Manager Screensaver Adavnced Fading and
Colormaps and untick Fade to Black when Blanking), the problem does not
seem to occure anymore... I will try to post this bug to XScreenSaver
guys with details...

[Bug 994418] [NEW] Move with window within wall broken when wall slide duration = 0

2012-05-04 Thread Karel Vervaeke
Public bug reported:

In CCSM, under Desktop Wall - Viewport Switching you can set Wall Slide
Duration to 0.
When you do this, the 'move with window within wall' functionality breaks.
Sometimes it works, but moving a window more than 1 workspace to the left/right
always fails.
Increasing the slide duration to 0.05 (the smallest increment) fixes things,
setting it to 0.0001 (the smalles possible value) doesn't help.

I'm running precise. Under oneiric, setting wall slide duration to 0 didn't
produce any problems.

upgraded to Precise and I can sent files from PC to phone only. Sending
from phone to PC gives me connection refused error. Probably same

[Bug 972481] Re: Eclipse crashes on startup

2012-04-17 Thread Karel Kozlik
I met the same problem about two weeks ago. sudo eclipse helped that time and
it worked fine. Today I met the problem again but sudo eclipse did not help
this time. I have no idea why it stoppet to work. I don't remember I did any
changes in the meantime. Maybe I updated all precise packages to latest
versions.
I tried to purge all eclipse configuration, purge the packeges and install them
again but nothing helped.
Including the log file that is generated during the eclipse start.

Thanks for the info! Btw, my mcollective configuration was managed by
this puppet module:

I'll see if I can get it fixed there...

[Bug 918348] Re: mcollective upstart script starts too many processes

2012-01-24 Thread Karel Vervaeke
This patch adds 'expect fork' to the upstart file. There used to be an
'expect daemon' in natty, but it got replaced by 'respawn' in this
commit: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
branches/ubuntu/precise/mcollective/precise/revision/9/debian/mcollective.upstart

[Bug 885850] Re: USB 3.0 Iomega eGO causes Kernel Panic when plugged into USB 3.0 port

2012-01-20 Thread Karel Vervaeke
I'm having the same problem on a Dell Precision M4600.
The disk is an eGo 1TB.
My kernel is: 3.0.0-14-generic.
Recompiling without CONFIG_USB_UAS works for me as well (based on apt-get
source linux-image-3.0.0-14).
Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

[Bug 830446] [NEW] Bluetooth doesn't work in kubuntu 11.04

2011-08-21 Thread Karel Kozlik
Public bug reported:

Bluetooth doesn't work in kubuntu 11.04 when the computer boot up. When I run
command:
sudo service bluetooth restart it start to work.

Since it has been working fine in 10.10, it looks similar to bug 762964,
but the kernel update which should resolve the bug 762964 did not work
for me.

My bluetooth adapter is:

kk@kk-nb:~$ lsusb

And kernel version:

[Bug 777243] [NEW] eclipse freezes with pdt

2011-05-04 Thread Karel Kozlik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

Today I updated ubuntu from maverick to natty. Eclipse has been working
fine before. But now when I open an PHP file an try edit it, eclipse
freeze in short time and I have to kill it. It seems to me that eclipse
usually (but not always) freezes when I move the cursor to a variable
and occurrences of this variable should be marked.

Steps to reproduce:
---
I re-installed eclipse from the standard ubuntu repository

$ aptitude install eclipse

and then added the Galileo repository

Galileo Update Site - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/

and from the programming laguage section I selected php development
tools (pdt) sdk feature

PHP Development Tools (PDT) SDK Feature
2.1.1.v20090707-1108-51584QACJCRCUeNRkNYbOJecWK9O

Then I opened a PHP file. Try to edit it, click on variable names so
they are highlighted. In a short time eclipse freezes

[Bug 727527] [NEW] usb disk created with universal-usb-installer fails to install

di_2.6.32-21.32_amd64.udeb in the folder \pool\main\l\linux solves
the problem.

There are 3 files in the \pool\main\l\linux folder on the usb stick
which seem to have incorrect *.udeb naming:

[Bug 681141] Re: kvm 1.84 hangs (host 32 bit meerkat, guest created by vmbuilder)

2010-12-06 Thread Karel Vervaeke
I just took the time to try all combinations (pae/non-pae host pae
/non-pae guest) and all combinations seem to work.

It only takes a lot of time to start up (but an approximately equal amount of
time in all combinations):
Around 50 to get to the screen with 'Ubuntu 10.10' and the 4-dots progress
indicator and an additional 15 to get to the login prompt.

Come to think of it, it may not be an exceptionally long time, but for a
headless system that doesn't run any services except ssh it seems rather long.
@Bart: Can you give it a try? (i.e. waiting a long time before giving up
killing the vm)

[Bug 681141] Re: kvm 1.84 hangs (host 32 bit meerkat, guest created by vmbuilder)

2010-12-06 Thread Karel Vervaeke
Ignore my previous post. It worked because I didn't load the kvm_intel
module. (I should have been tipped off by the fact that it was so slow).

with kvm_intel loaded,
pae host + non-pae guest: boots in about 5 seconds (up to the login prompt)
pae host + pae guest: doesn't start up (hangs right after the grub prompt)
non-pae host + non-pae guest: boots in about 5 seconds (up to the login prompt)
non-pae host + pae guest: doesn't start up (hangs right after the grub prompt)

So for my system, the problem occurs when the guest tries to boot a pae kernel.
The host kernel doesn't make any difference.
It's not clear to me if (and how) you instruct vmbuilder to build a vm with a
non-pae kernel (but that's not really relevant for this bug)

[Bug 681141] [NEW] kvm 1.84 hangs (host 32 bit meerkat, guest created by vmbuilder)

2010-11-24 Thread Karel Vervaeke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

Host kernel is: 2.6.35-22-generic-pae
Guests built with vmbuilder all hang right after grub prints starting up

I have tried with -cpu qemu32,-nx as suggested at verious places, but it
doesn't help.
I have also tried manually installing meerkat from an iso. The installation
works fine, but after
that the guest fails to boot.

I can install and run a fedora 14 guest though, so it seems specific to the
ubuntu host+guest combination.
(Although I didn't test using non-ubuntu guests)

[Bug 565971] Re: I cannot mount my ipod shuffle. It shows up with the systemadministrationdisk utility; but it doesn't have any mountable partitions. (It actually does)

2010-10-15 Thread Karel Zak
I'm not sure if there is any direct relation... but there is a bug in
libblkid, the blkid command believes that whole iPod disk (e.g.
/dev/sdd) is unpartitioned device with FAT filesystem. Try:

blkid -p -o udev -p /dev/sdd

The incorrect output is

   ID_FS_LABEL=iPod
   ID_FS_LABEL_ENC=iPod
   ID_FS_UUID=A88B-3652
   ID_FS_UUID_ENC=A88B-3652
   ID_FS_VERSION=FAT32
   ID_FS_TYPE=vfat
   ID_FS_USAGE=filesystem

this problem should be fixed by util-linux-ng upstream commit
973af806428c0f853ac0241ab46faee6ccdaab26.
