[Bug 2026194] Re: When clicking on some maximized or tiled windows, focus on roughly the lower quarter falls to the window behind

2024-07-07 Thread Marcos Casquero
Hi all

A bit better with tjaalton solution but sometimes I get the same error
with snap, flatpaks and software update graphical utility as well (is it
snap?).

Problem continues in my Ubuntu 24.04 noble, gnome 46.0.1, Kernel: x86_64
Linux 6.8.0-36-generic, WM: Mutter, GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 (nvidia-
driver-535 privative).

I did this:
❯ cat
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/archive_uri-http_archive_ubuntu_com_ubuntu_-noble.list
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ noble-proposed multiverse main
restricted universe

sudo apt install mutter/noble-proposed

So I have:
gir1.2-mutter-14/noble,now 46.0-1ubuntu9 amd64 [instalado, automático]
libmutter-14-0/noble,now 46.0-1ubuntu9 amd64 [instalado, automático]
mutter-common-bin/noble,now 46.0-1ubuntu9 amd64 [instalado, automático]
mutter-common/noble,noble,now 46.0-1ubuntu9 all [instalado, automático]
mutter/noble-proposed,now 46.2-1ubuntu0.24.04.1 amd64 [instalado]

When comes again I do:
❯ pkill -HUP mutter-x11-fram
And problem solves until next reboot.

I don't know which is the trigger at the momment.

I completely forgot about this bug report. :)

Unfortunately, with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS thefuck stopped working again, but
this time because of Python 3.12. There are folks trying to work on
this, though.

I know the crashes shouldn't be related, but in some way they are because so

[Bug 2056506] Re: ubuntu-dock 89 crashes on gnome-shell 45 with signal 6 when right clicking on the dock [clutter_actor_dispose: assertion failed: (priv->parent == NULL)]

2024-03-14 Thread Marcos Alano
It seems odd. I know after a crash GNOME Shell starts with all the
extensions unloaded, even the ones installed with the system like Ubuntu
Dock still operates.

Could you check if that's the case with the Extension Manager or
Extensions app?

2024-03-10 Thread Marcos Alano
Yeah, I opened a bug report for that: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056506
It's the Ubuntu Dock extension the culprit. I downgraded it and the problem was
gone.
Now we need to bisect to see what change caused this.

I did a rollback on the package gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock to the

[Bug 2056506] [NEW] GNOME Shell crashes when I close any application

2024-03-07 Thread Marcos Alano
Public bug reported:

I'm using Noble for sometime and I'm having a very annoying and odd
problem: everytime I close an application on x11 (Wayland doesn't work
any better) clicking with the right button in the dock and choosing
"Quit" I got that screen saying that something went wrong and I need to
close the session and start over. Please, let me know what logs do you
need. I couldn't find any meaningful information by myself.

[Bug 1862764] Re: add-apt-repository should use signed-by

2022-06-04 Thread Marcos Ferreira
I started using Ubuntu 22.04 and this issue started to occour.

The 'add-apt-repository' command adds the gpg key of the PPA repository
in the trusted.gpg file (/etc/apt/trusted.gpg)

As commented above, the PPA repositories are not being included in the
sources.list file (/etc/apt/sources.list) or in the directory
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ with the parameter [signed-by=]

Workaround:
While the fix doesn't come, the way is to adapt the repository in this way:
1- $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:author/project
2- $ apt-key list
3- $ gpg --export  | sudo tee
/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/.gpg
4- $ sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/repository-name.list
5- Find & Replace:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/author/project/ubuntu jammy main
by
deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/.gpg
http://ppa.launchpad.net/author/project/ubuntu jammy main

6- Save the changes and run 'sudo apt update' again

[Bug 1876632] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted/missing shell textures when switching users or resuming from suspend

2022-04-24 Thread Marcos Alano
I tried to set both options mentioned on comment #11 and with X11 after resume
I got corrupted lock screen and corrupted shell. I had to restart shell with
alt+f2 and type r. Furthermore, I think this is the kind of problem the bug
talks about.
I have a laptop with an option on BIOS to always use the NVIDIA card instead of
hybrid approach, so in some cases laptops will be affected too because they act
as desktops in this aspect.

2022-04-23 Thread Marcos Alano
I have a Dell laptop that have an option in BIOS to always use the NVIDIA GPU
instead of Intel/NVIDIA, and that the option I keep selected.
In the login screen, the gear shows "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu on Wayland" options,
so I think it's ok for non-hybrid machines until we fix all the problems.

[Bug 1968929] Re: No Wayland support on NVIDIA systems

2022-04-19 Thread Marcos Alano
I read the comment #19 and I was able to suspend correctly using s0ix
method. The problem is: The method requires using "echo mem |sudo tee
/sys/power/state" to enter on suspend mode, but I think the default
method, when using menu option and "systemctl suspend", is "freeze", not
"mem". Using "echo freeze |sudo tee /sys/power/state" my laptop woke up
again after a few seconds.

I did the transparency myself in GIMP. I don't have for sure the

2022-04-15 Thread Marcos Alano
I got the gdm3 package version 42.0-1ubuntu4 and still don't get Wayland. I
troubleshot and found the problem in the file /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules in
the following lines:
IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c \"sed -e 's/: /=/g' -e
's/\([^[:upper:]]\)\([[:upper:]]\)/\1_\2/g' -e 's/[[:lower:]]/\U&/g' -e
's/^/NVIDIA_/' /proc/driver/nvidia/params\""
ENV{NVIDIA_PRESERVE_VIDEO_MEMORY_ALLOCATIONS}!="1", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland"
If I comment that Wayland appears as an option in GDM.
I had to create a file /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-hack.conf with the follow content:
options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1
This theoretically enable the option to preserve video memory allocations, but
still getting the option as "1", still don't enable Wayland.

[Bug 1968929] [NEW] No Wayland support on my NVIDA laptop

2022-04-13 Thread Marcos Alano
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 on a Dell G15 5511 laptop that have an NVIDIA 3060 GPU.
I saw in the last update in the gdm3 package that Wayland will be disabled in
machines with hybrid graphics.
The question is: In this laptop I can enable optimus to use Intel and sometimes
NVIDIA or keep only on NVIDIA (I use this option). So even it's detected two
GPUs the Intel one is unused.
I think the problem could extend for people with a desktop with an integrated
intel GPU and a discrete NVIDIA GPU, since both will be present in the system.
So maybe will be necessary to check with more accuracy to check if there are
two GPUs, but only one is being used or have a documented option to force the
enablement of Wayland.

[Bug 1964546] [NEW] 1Password doesn't integrate with Firefox Snap

2022-03-10 Thread Marcos Alano
Public bug reported:

I use for sometime now 1Password for Linux on Ubuntu. 1Password
integrates with the 1Password Firefox extension, but just when using Deb
version. The most visible integration is to unlock via browser
extension, which calls the desktop application to enter the password.
The Firefox Snap doesn't have this integration yet, probably because the
extension can't talk with the desktop application. The problem is in
Jammy-proposed is forcing to adopt Firefox Snap version, but I want to
keep using Firefox Deb version until this problem is fixed, so one of
two ways: or we find a way to integrate 1Password desktop app with
Firefox Snap or create a package alternative to people who want to keep
using Firefox Deb for this or any other limitation of Firefox Snap.

2022-01-07 Thread Marcos Alano
There is available code to fix that. Someone could package so we can get it
working in Jammy? I think it's quite important since it's a 5-years long
release.
Here is the code:

** Tags added: apport-collected impish

** Description changed:

  I own a Dell G15 5511. The G15 series is a budget-friendly version of
Alienware series.
  My problem is I can't get the fan speed using either lm-sensors or GNOME
applets (GNOME extensions Vitals or System Monitor).
  I think I find out why: the dell-smm-hwmon and i8k kernel modules don't
support G15 series (or even Alienware). They support Latitude, XPS, Inspiron
and other series, but not G15/Alienware (I think is the same wiring).
  The need is to open a kernel bug to add support for this product lines. I
tried to open an issue in Kernel's Bugzilla, but it said to me to look up for
distro's issue tracking. Since I use Ubuntu, here I am.
  I will be happy to provide any command exit and execute any debug procedure
you may need.

[Bug 1951646] [NEW] [snap] Firefox unable to load Security Device "p11-kit-trust.so" defined in /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json

2021-11-19 Thread Marcos Simental
Public bug reported:

Environment:
Ubuntu 21.10 with default Firefox (v93.0) snap install.

Having defined a policy in /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json with the
following:
$ cat /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json
{
"policies": {
"Authentication": {
"Delegated": [
"example.com"
],
"NTLM": [
"example.com"
],
"SPNEGO": [
"example.com"
],
"Locked": false
},
"Homepage": {
"URL": "https://example.com;,
"Locked": false
},
"Proxy": {
"Mode": "system",
"Passthrough": ",.example.com,
"Locked": false
},
"SecurityDevices": {
"p11-kit-trust.so for Internal certificate chain":
"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkcs11/p11-kit-trust.so"
}
}
}

I got an error when looking over about:policies:
"Unable to load security device p11-kit-trust.so"
However, all other policies are active and applied correctly (meaning that snap
firefox can load /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json file).

After enabling debug for policies I get the following error:
Policies.jsm:
Exception { name: "NS_ERROR_FAILURE", message: "Component returned failure
code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIPKCS11ModuleDB.addModule]", result:
2147500037, filename: "resource:///modules/policies/Policies.jsm", lineNumber:
1995, columnNumber: 0, data: null, stack:
"onProfileAfterChange@resource:///modules/policies/Policies.jsm:1995:20\n_runPoliciesCallbacks@resource://gre/modules/EnterprisePoliciesParent.jsm:238:9\nBG_observe@resource://gre/modules/EnterprisePoliciesParent.jsm:291:14\n",
 location: XPCWrappedNative_NoHelper }
Policies.jsm:1998

I tried to reproduce with the firefox.deb package without success, so the
problem might be around snap.

With I disable the GMP sandbox it works fine.
Here is some console logs showing the violations:

[Bug 1944468] Re: Electron applications all crash upon launch

2021-09-26 Thread Marcos Alano
@mwhudson Without your glibc the Electron apps I tested, 1Password and
MS Teams, open up a blank screen. When I install your glibc than works
as expected. About the Widevine I will look for another bug report or
create one. With or without your glibc the Widevine crashes. The only
way to avoid it is to execute Firefox from terminal so it gets the
environment variable to stop using the sandbox.

[Bug 1944468] Re: Electron applications all crash upon launch

2021-09-25 Thread Marcos Alano
I installed your glibc packages and 1Password start to work again.
However I had problems with Widevine in Firefox (.deb package).It was
crashing when I used GMP sandboxing. If I disabled temporarily the
sandbox Netflix and other services worked again. Someone could test to
see if it's a general bug related to glibc or I'm just the (not) lucky
one?

[Bug 1943853] Re: Recent update DELETED SNAP PROGRAMS

2021-09-17 Thread Marcos Chirinos
Yes, Maciej's action worked. Thanks, I will need to figure out some
solutions to my personal security to not lose access to my accounts via
authy again. But at least now out of immediate danger.

I will keep watching this report for any clue as to the cause and
prevention of this same situation. Happy to provide any more data per
requests. I am not fluent in terminal but can get around.

Probably not relevant, but the programs Chartgeany and Hugo never worked
after initial installation, I though I would still try the same connect
command on them but no luck.

arcos@marcos-Latitude-6430U:~$ sudo snap connect chartgeany:gnome-3-28-1804
gnome-3-28-1804
[sudo] password for marcos:
error: snap "chartgeany" has no plug named "gnome-3-28-1804"
