[Bug 636481] [NEW] sensors-applet does not display detected sensors

2010-09-12 Thread rusivi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sensors-applet

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10

2) apt-cache policy sensors-applet
sensors-applet:
  Installed: 2.2.5-4ubuntu1

  Version table:
 *** 2.2.5-4ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What I expected is after I install sensors-applet, then run:

sudo sensors-detect

restart the computer, right click top panel and click Hardware Sensors
Monitor then click Add it shows my detected sensors.

4) What happens instead is that after I do this the GUI panel icon notes
No sensors found!. However, before I upgraded to Maverick, sensors-
applet displayed sensors following the above mentioned process with no
problem.

[Bug 594538] Re: moonlight firefox plugin does not work

2010-09-12 Thread rusivi
lino:

Thank you for reporting this bug.

Because you are using a pre-release, you should bring this to the
attention of the upstream developers (Novell) at:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/index.cgi

As well, I have bugs for the Ubuntu Maverick version of moonlight-
plugin-mozilla at:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/moon/+bug/636231

and upstream:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=638737

As well, due to the pre-release status of your package, I am marking it
as opinion because it's not quite invalid, but out of the scope of
Ubuntu developers because the package version is not one provided by
Ubuntu. However, feel free to continue the discussion regarding this!

2010-09-07 Thread rusivi
Updated the kernel, tried:

lshw | grep radeon

which ran successfully with no kernel crashes. However, when I ran the
same under sudo:

had a kernel crash, then it locked up my OS requiring a hard reset.

Public bug reported:

1) uname -a
Linux name-laptop 2.6.35-19-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Sun Aug 29 06:36:51 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux

3) (see attached)

4) (see attached)

__

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release: 10.10

2) N/A

3) What I expected to happen is when I run the terminal command:

sudo lshw |grep radeon

it would not cause a kernel crash.

4) What happened instead is that it got part way through then kernel
crash, and subsequent OS lockup requiring a hard reset.

The syntax I should have been using was:

sudo lshw | grep radeon

but I noticed the last time I ran it and the kernel crashed I did not
put a space between the | and grep.

[Bug 624900] Re: Authbind not binding WINE to 127.0.0.1:895

2010-08-27 Thread rusivi
Clint:

Based on what I read for the thread you posted, while the LD_PRELOAD is
theoretically possible to implement in WINE it would require a large re-
write of WINE. While this is possible, it's highly unlikely due to it
requiring a large re-write of WINE. Hence, it seems the Won't Fix
status is more appropriate than Invalid.

[Bug 620764] Re: gedit crashes when manipulating 2.8GB text file

2010-08-27 Thread rusivi
I did use Vi to manipulate the file, which itself creates a full,
temporary copy of the file while the file is being edited. However, it
would be nice if gedit had some provision to deal with large files.

3) What I expected to happen is when I run WINE via fakeroot-ng in a
terminal:

fakeroot-ng wine C:\\Program\ Files\\Hotspot\
Shield\\bin\\openvpntray.exe

It allows the program run in WINE to bind to 127.0.0.1:895.

4) What happens instead is that nothing opens whatsoever. As well, when
I try to Ctrl+C, the program won't end. After I close the terminal,
fakeroot-ng WINE are both still running and I would have to go to
System Monitor, right click fakeroot-ng first, the Kill Process. Then I
can Kill Process for WINE.

[Bug 624743] [NEW] No information exists on iptables prerouting

3) What I expected is when I looked in the Ubuntu Help Center for
iptables prerouting I would find it.

4) I did a search for both iptables prerouting and prerouting but no
results.

However, a definition of iptables prerouting is found in man iptables
but I was looking for examples of why to use it,
advantages/disadvantages, etc.

[Bug 624802] [NEW] authbind port usage incorrect

2010-08-26 Thread rusivi

3) What I expected to happen is when I looked into the Ubuntu Help
Center for authbind, I would not see:

Ports from 512 to 1023 inclusive cannot be used with authbind because that
would create a security hole, in conjection with
rshd.

4) What happened instead is that I saw the above quote, in contradiction

[Bug 260761] Re: [ath5k] Atheros wireless chipset AR5212 is incorrectly identified as AR2414

2010-08-26 Thread rusivi
As per Ubuntu question:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/116748

I also had a similar confusion regarding what wifi chipset I have based
on the results of dmesg vs. lspci/lshw:

dmesg | grep Atheros
[ 10.131682] ath5k phy0: Atheros AR2425 chip found

lspci -nn | grep Atheros
05:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless
Network Adapter [168c:001c] (rev 01)

lshw | grep Network
product: AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter

I came to the conclusion then that dmesg queries the radio, while lshw
lspci poll system architecture, but I cannot prove it 100%.

I've updated to the newest kernel:

uname -a
Linux name-laptop 2.6.32-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 28 06:07:29 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux

and now the results of:

dmesg | grep Atheros

are nothing, and:

dmesg | ath5k phy0

produces a lot of entries of:

ath5k phy0: unsupported jumbo

part of a known issue, which can cause performance problems:

http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/ath5k#Eliminating_.60ath5k:_unsupported_jumbo.60_bug

Hope that helps!

[Bug 620789] Re: kwrite crashes when trying to open a 2.8 GB text file

Thank you for addressing this bug. My bugs are not jokes, otherwise I
would not post them! ;) As well, the amount of RAM I have and the amount
of free space I have on my hard disk drive (both more than the size of
the file), is not quite the problem.

Thank you for addressing this bug. When I typed ubuntu-bug kwrite this
is the bug that was created. So, until this problem has been resolved
upstream, it should remain an open bug. Thanks!

[Bug 620789] Re: kwrite crashes when trying to open a 2.8 GB text file

2010-08-20 Thread rusivi
Harold:

Thank you for addressing this bug. I did review the policy before I
changed the status: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status and I was
mistaken. Based on this being a confirmed problem upstream, it should
have been marked this but policy states don't confirm your own bugs. Due
to the status disagreement, I'll place in Opinion, but if you would like
to place in Confirm that's great too!

[Bug 620764] [NEW] gedit crashes when manipulating 2.8GB text file

2010-08-19 Thread rusivi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04

2) apt-cache policy gedit
gedit:
  Installed: 2.30.3-0ubuntu0.1
  Candidate: 2.30.3-0ubuntu0.1
  Version table:

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.30.0git20100413-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

3) What I expected to happen is that when I open up a 2.8GB text file
with gedit, it will allow me to migrate around the file without
crashing.

4) What happened instead is that the file initially opens successfully.
However, each of three times it gets about 1/2 the way through loading,
the window just closes without my having closed it.

[Bug 619922] [NEW] Ubuntu Software Center does not keep record of packages uninstalled or installed

3) What I expected to happen is when I installed or uninstalled a
program from the Ubuntu Software Center, a record would be kept and
accessible in either the Ubuntu Software Center GUI, or in the Synaptic
Package Manager.

4) What happened instead is when I uninstalled the evince package (which
forced me to remove ubuntu-desktop, another matter for another bug), I
looked for a record of this transaction in both Ubuntu Software Center
