http://ubuntu-manual.org/ has a good introductory manual for 12.04 and it
covers Unity as well.
There is a download option to get the PDF file and it find it is well
written.

yes. agree with james. It is really boon to newbie. It would be nice to
have separate  list of commandlines with its expected output - in terminal
of ubuntu 12.04 as a handy ready reckoner.
