New buzzword actually. They're ideally PCs that have a small form
factor and can be connected to a large display or HDTV to provide
entertainment capabilities (apart from the usual stuff).

Not sure about whether it could run on 12V, but the idle power usage
on Atom boards is in the range of 50 W or so.

What exactly are net tops

actually i am looking for a low cost / low power regular computing
solution. The problems with netbooks are that they over time will get
tiring , if some one wants to use it for a few hours a day.

My understanding it that these desktop pc's are both low cost and low
power but still retain the capability of pretty impressive computing -
office apps, multimedia etc, apart from net connectivity.

But the specs don't mention what is missing - say does it have an
optical drive or not etc. Nor the power configuration - it would be
ideal and amzing if it could run of 12 volt DC

Sorry to reply to my own post, but if you're looking for a nice
"nettop" type of system, I would recommend that you get one with an
nvidia ION chipset. This will allow you to play HD video (and provide
video video acceleration via VDPAU). One model is the Acer Revo which
I had for a while.

I think this model ships with Linux pre-installed in some countries.
Ideally it should work with Ubuntu.

[ubuntu-in] Any one using a EEEPC BOX with Ubuntu

2009-11-25 Thread Ramnarayan.K
Hi

I understand that apart from the eeepc laptop there is also a non
laptop eeepcs which are low powered.

So am wondering if anyone has used them and how well they perform with Ubuntu.

http://in.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=QUObl5lSRQQ3lSqJ

also any idea what it costs

it seems like the eeepc has become quite expensive - the new 1100ha
model retailing for some 28 k (wow)
