This has been discussed endlessly in this list and at many places on internet. It all depends on how you setup your connection and your modem/router. 1. You can put your router in bridge mode and then configure the connection client on your machine. This seems to be default because the technician installing the connection does not know any other way. Ideally the connection configured this way should just show as DSL connection in NM. If it doesn't then some problem with NM or configuration. 2. You can put the router in routed mode, configure connection on the device and simply put your machine in DHCP mode (roaming mode in case of NM). This is ideal setup in most of the situations and specifically when you have more than one machines. This works perfectly with NM. Take your pick. The router is a Huawei ZXC 531B. I have connected to both open as well as WEP encrypted connections. So perhaps you are having problems with the Siemens router. Its not a bug. Network manager doesnt support pppoe. This has been a major feature request since a long time but no one has bothered to do it. pon and poff are the only way you have. Hi Am setting up a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.10 (Ultimate) . Everything has gone well. The only issue is the BSNL Broadband It is an ADSL connection and does not connect through the Network Manager Applet. I had to use use pppoeconf to set it up. Even on my laptop its the same problem The modem is a Siemens C2110. And the connection is via ethernet. The auto eth0 starts up and connects to the modem but it only allows access to the device and no further. Any idea what the problem could be.
