Visible, white, annoying light. I am thinking I'll open it up and hack
it to disable those lights.

Do they output visible light? or are they IR?

Wow. "Thank you" or "please" wouldn't hurt. But you're right, I didn't
post much details. Thanks for kicking me into it.

That page is for general troubleshooting and installation. I didn't do
anything, just plugged it in and worked.

The camera model is iNTEX IT-305WC (reported as Z-Star Microelectronics
Corp. ZC0303 WebCam by lsusb)

I also commented its entry in the Linux USB database:
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=3489

And added it to the Skype Webcams page (much as I don't like Skype, I
tested it):
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeWebCams

lsusb reports this:
 0ac8:303b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0303 WebCam

Cheers,

Fabian

[ubuntu-in] Great, cheap webcam

2008-10-24 Thread Fabian Rodriguez
Hi all

I was recently in Delhi and Gurgaon for work and one of my colleagues
brought me to Nehru Place :)

I was happy to find a nice, cheap webcam to use with Ubuntu. If anyone
goes there, ask for Night Vision Camera IT-305WC ("5 megapixel"). "Night
vision" refers to 6 annoying leds in front of it :) I got decent 640x480
output from it and for Rs. 600 I think it was a good deal.

Cheers,

Fabian
