Ah, this was based on the assumption that those
newbies have already studied about mailing lists in
theory. :)

Umm, IRC, could have been better, but would cost them
a lot for SMSes. ;)

They are old, but still prevalant. Slow, agreed. But
eventually, this list will grow and there'll be more
frequent discussions, hopefully. :)

The non techie population has grown up on yahoo chatrooms.
Mailing lists are old and slow for them (if they know about it in the
first place).

Hey Sameer,

I do not have the server edition with me. I have the
desktop edition of Kubuntu 7.04 (Ubuntu with KDE).
Anyone on this list who has it(server edition)?

You'll get older versions of Ubuntu (for example 6.06
DVD) with September 2006 issue of Linux for You
(http://www.linuxforu.com), if you interested in
having it.

I wouldn't mind coming over, but I guess, Sanjay from
this list (Sanjay, if you can help) has Ubuntu 7.04
destkop version and he too is located in Bandra.
If he can help you, he'll probably email you and then
you guys can meet up and exchange the CDs. (I have
sent a copy of this email to him as well)

It could be easier for you as well as him to get that
CD. I too have to pay him Rs. 20/- and return his CD
box, so if you make a plan to meet, I too will acquire
a copy of Ubuntu 7.04 CD and give back his things to
him. So, do let me know when y'all finalize a venue,
date and time.

Ah, now I see, why I didn't get a reply from this
person, when I sent an email to the list.

[RANT]
Why is it that newbies are not aware of mailing lists?
Mailing lists are an old communication component
taught in theory classes of Introduction to computers
or something of that sort. I learnt it there, though
didn't knew what the implementation was like. But I
managed to find out that, a bit later.
[/RANT]

Anyways, samkhed at hotmail dot com, you can visit the
URL
http://www.ubuntu-in.org/wiki/CDRequest

and find out who's close to your current location in
Mumbai to acquire CDs of *buntu.

Send an email to that member and fix up a venue, date
and time to exchange CDs / DVDs.

Hope this helps.
