Re: [ubuntu-in] Package management crashed - How to re-install
What errors are you getting? Until you state the exact error messages got during installation or re-installation it is not easy to guess what might have gone wrong. Since it was taking long time to install postgresql-common (dependency of postgresql), I closed that window (installing window) but not able to close the GDebi package installer (it was not responding) so that package postgresql-common itself not installed in system. Then I restarted my system. Now, I tried to install packages (postgresql-common also others) GDebi installer reporting error only one software management tool is allowed to run at the same time Please close the other application e.g. Update manager ……. I opened synaptic it's showing error like E:dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure –a' to correct the problem I did this in my terminal with sudo. Then restarted my system again. Now GDebi showing error like could not open package. This might be corrupted (for all the package even for those which are installed correctly by me previous) Now synaptic. Reporting errors like E: the package postgresql-common needs to be reinstalled, but I cannot fins an archive for it E: Interpol error opening cache (1). Please report So then I was not able to do any kind of package management. I re-installed my whole ubuntu (6.10) system, and then made a fresh download from packages. Ubuntu.com but the problem continues. I have reinstalled my system three times for post two days but cannot find the answer for this. Actually I want to use postgresql as back-end for Gambas application I have no knowledge with postgresql and with any other dB packages. -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
