Presuming a modem in a laptop is ok but
presuming it "should work with Ubuntu Linux" is not so ok.

Check out the archives for compatible and not compatible winmodems
(windows modems) at linmodems.org

It is presumed that laptop has built-in dailup modem (not external modem)
and if so, please try using OS like XP and check whether it will works.
Please enquire with Dell people to find out whether built-in dialup of
Laptop is supported for Linux also, and if so, it should work with ubuntu
- only thing is you have to configure.for diallup connection.

Re: [ubuntu-in] Problems Internet My Parents (now in Delhi)

2007-05-27 Thread Anurag Mishra

The laptop has an internal modem and my parents have been unable to
configure it. They live in Lansdowne and there are no hopes of getting
broadband there. They will be in Delhi for few days in first week of June,
so I was wondering if somebody could help them there in configuring it.

No, that laptop won't have a built-in DSL modem.
May be, he has purchased a dial-up account and needs
help regarding that. That laptop may have an internal
modem.
