Whatever the method of download you choose, you can upgrade to the stable
version quiet easier...

jigdo is also a good option. You just need to select the right one for
the need. And jigdo will be a good idea in this case, as pointed out
by brijith.

As far as I know,

.list is to enlist the list of files available in the ISO files.
.template: I donno. But there is not .template for desktop edition...

Hi

I asked this as part of another query earlier but did not get a reply, hence
posting as a new query.
I have frequently seen the file listing of a Ubuntu mirror and seen files
like .jigdo and .metalink.
While i understand what they are and how to use them to download the ISO, i
dont know what are .list and .template files and how do you use them to
download an ISO.
How do we use them.
