Re: [ubuntu-in] Upgrading directly to 10.04 LTS from 8.04 LTS

2010-05-16 Thread Easwar Hariharan
And I would like to clear this very common misconception.

Installing Ubuntu WITHIN Windows is NOT the same as dual booting Ubuntu and
Windows. The former doesn't change your partitions, the latter does, by
definition. You can migrate from a Wubi installation to a TRUE dual boot.
There is a HOWTO on the Ubuntu forums for the same.

Both 8.04 and 10.04 are LTS releases. LTS to LTS upgrades are
officially supported.

Narendra,
wanted to install it within windows which works as dual boot with windows.
At present ubuntu9.04 installed within Windows and works as dual boot with
windows. So far no problems faced. Updating will carried out in ubuntu
itself as usual. It is better to wait for another one month by the time
10.04 will be stable?

10.04. This applies whether you want to install it within Windows or
as a dual boot with Windows.

install latest version 10.4 in WinXP without uninstalling

2010-05-16 Thread $reeHari
I am not sure whether u can upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04 directly . Anyway all
I can say is that YOU CANT UPGRADE YOUR UBUNTU WITH A LIVE CD . You should
download the ALTERNATE CD iso image from the site and mount it . The package
manager automatically asks if you want to upgrade the distro , once the
mount is done .

Hello!
Why don't someone suggest a way to upgrade from the CD?? I have the iso file
downloaded and a bootable Live Cd made of it. When you insert it when your
machine is on the package manager detects it. I think the packages are
detected and one can upgrade through the CD and then install the additional
updates.
I have not done the above procedure till now but am thinking to do so. Will
be better if someone will guide me through. I run 8.04 and am want to
install 10.04. Any help in this regards i sappreciated.
Thank you.
