I had this problem with transcend 4GB pen drive and my intel D102G mother
board.I couldn't solve it then.

In another machine it worked by changing BIOS settings for USB emulation
type. Also try changing other settings for the USB drive in the BIOS.It *may*
work.

If you are using Ubuntu, Plug the pen drive wait till it auto mounts,
unmount it, then from System --> Admin --> Disk utility--> Edit Partition
and check the bootable flag.

You can also use Gparted, Unmount the drive, right click on the partition
and select Manage Flags --> Check Bootable.

i created bootable drive(i-ball) from same .iso, also checked md5sum, that
is not the problem.

2010-06-24 Thread Narendra Diwate
I have been using the USB drive as a preferred option to install / test run
a linux distro. I only use unetbootin for this. And have never faced a
problem like this. To resolve this:

1. Make sure the md5sum of the iso is matching the official one.
2. Make sure the Kingston is marked with boot-able flag.
3. If this is already true then try reinstalling the OS on the Penfrive with
unetbootin.
4. Lastly, i am assuming that the computer BIOS allows USB booting. Some
systems dont.

I too faced this problem sometime ago... As I could not find any reliable
solution, so I was reinstalling on Pendrive...

Using source will not make a device bootable, though the contents are same
(As per my knowledge)

Has anyone faced this problem? any solution?

I used unetbootin and usb-creator applications to make the drive bootable,
there was no error in any of the application.
i am using .iso file as source file.

before 2 weeks when i did same thing with i-ball pen drive it worked, i even
tried booting different machines from same drive.

Re: [ubuntu-in] installing ubuntu

2010-06-23 Thread Narendra Diwate
First a few Q's:
Are you run the Live Cd and boot to a Live session?
Were you able to at all install ANY Linux, either direct or in VM?
Are you booting off a CD or USB?

The hardware is fine and capable to run any Linux. If you are booting from a
CD, its possible that the CD is faulty or the CD drive is faulty. I have a
CD drive that writes CD's fine, but the CD's wont boot (get I/O erro. Other
data it writes fine. So the problem can be the media (CD?USB) or the
drive(CD drive).

Once you revert with a few more details I am sure more people will chip in.

Sir,

you will find better suggestions from the group.

nevertheless - ideal situation is to use the 10.04 / jaunty, and boot as
LIVE CD. if that works then the problem's area will be limited, which the
group members can throw more light on this.

[ubuntu-in] installing ubuntu

2010-06-23 Thread sandeep kumar
I have compaq presario model SR5060IL desktop , which is upgraded to 1gb RAM.

Whenever i installed linux on it ,

when booting with linux ,the computer just hangs after some time runing
smoothly (pointer does not move on the screen).

I also tried different linux versions eg. ubuntu 9.10 , linux mint helena &
currently ubuntu 10.04 LTS by the disc received from canonical.com

I even not able to dual boot the machine, the problem was same.

but when i tried installing linux via VIRTUAL BOX its done, but there is no
sound...

So' can anybody help what to do? Is this machine is capatible to run with
ubuntu linux ?
or the mice or key board are compatible. please suggest

configuration of machine is

 intelcore 2duo E4300 processor(2MB L2 cache,1.8ghz,800mhz fsb,dualcore)

 intel945gc chipset

 1GB PC2-4200 DDR2

compaq home professional keyboard , PS/2 scroll mouse

 160GB sata hard drive

 intel sraphics media accelerator 950,DVMT 3.0 - upto 128mb

OS free dos preinstalled but,
currently running with MS WINDOWS XP professional SP3.
