go to system ->administration -> synaptic package manager

open this and run a search for samba - it will have the package you
are looking for, select and install, itt will install all the required
associate packages you need

If you don't have a good internet connection then pop your install CD
and it will ask if you want to open a package manager - say yes and
see if samba is available

if that too does not work ask for some one using 8.10 to install samba
on theirs and make you an apton cd and install both apton as well as
samba

and finally you could also ask some one for the Ubuntu repository
DVD's which will have the entire set of Ubuntu packages.
