Re: [Ubuntu-manual] Serious downtime

2013-07-06 Thread Patrick Dickey
You might want to search for installing ubuntu on HP Compaq 2934
though. Just because if it's running Windows 8, then it's most likely
using UEFI Secure Boot. So you'll want to make sure you can disable (or
update the keys for) that.

Have a great day.:)
Patrick.

 Hi Mehmet,

Sorry to hear about your computer problems, but glad to know
everything is settled. You should have no problems running Ubuntu on
HP Compaq 2934 because if it can run W8, then it can run Ubuntu.

W8 and Ubuntu system requirements compared:

 Windows 8 Requirements:

   * Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE,
 NX, and SSE2 (more info)

   * RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

   * Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

   * Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM
 driver

 Ubuntu Desktop Requirements:

   * 700 MHz processor (about Intel Celeron or better)
   * 512 MiB RAM (system memory)
   * 5 GB of hard-drive space (or USB stick, memory card or
external drive but see LiveCD for an alternative
 approach)
   * VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution
   * Either a CD/DVD drive or a USB port for the installer
 media
   * Internet access is helpful

 Hi Team,

I would like to apologise as I have been without a machine for
a long period of time until now where I have had to borrow a
machine to send this message which resulted in me falling
behind. My laptop burnt out and after digging out my old
desktop, after a few days of use the hard drive died. I have
now ordered a new pc which will be with me tomorrow I shall
commence with the completion of the assigned chapters.

I do have one question though, after research I could not find
the answer to the question, will ubuntu run under
 HP Compaq 2934
The above model comes with Windows 8 and I really do not want
the horrible interface to grace my monitor.

Any reply is very much appreciated

 Thanks

[Ubuntu-manual] Bazaar under Windows 8

2013-07-06 Thread Mehmet Kani

Hi team,

Received below error code when pushing the project.

bzr: ERROR: Cannot lock
LockDir(http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-manual/ubuntu-manual/trunk/.bzr/branch/lock):
Transport operation not possible: http does not support mkdir()

Any help with the above is appreciated. With a lot of work I think I
have worked it out except for the above.

Kind regards and many thanks

Mehmet

Try running 'bzr launchpad-login'.

It might be less work to install VirtualBox on Windows 8, and run Ubuntu
in a virtual machine? Then you can just use the
pkgs/ubuntu-manual-dev.sh script to install everything you need
automatically.
