Re: [ubuntu-marketing] suggestion: add gnome-PPP to base Ubuntu Feisty system
I like the idea, Chris, and would have personally found Ubuntu a lot easier to live with when first starting out if I didn't have to fight with the Gnome network connections manager to dial out and get connected. One concern I have is with people with winmodems trying the tool and finding that they don't have everything they need to just get connected. I know that this is no worse than what would have happened to them, had they not immediately had gnome-ppp at their disposal, but I'm thinking that the potential inclusion of this by default brings up an opportunity to educate the user as to where they should go looking for drivers, and perhaps explain why their winmodem can't be supported out of the box. [ubuntu-marketing] Proposal for the UWN
After helping out en UWN 25, I've been chewing on some ideas. Since writing up a human readable changelog for the major packages that where uploaded that week is so... well... complicated, I wanted to propose rather then having quantity, trying to aim at quality. Maybe someone can pick 3 or 4 packages that have gone through major changes that are worth mentioning, and doing a writeup on them. Something like the "Debian Package of the Day" (http://debaday.debian.net/). Happy holidays to you all. Re: [ubuntu-marketing] DDCContrtol
I'm sorry to say that the folks on this list are not necessarily the ones best suited to providing help, and I'm definitely one of those folks. This list is the marketing team's list, and support can be found at ubuntu-users. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I'm sure your issue will be sorted there. And, of course, merry Christmas! We had been working for about six hours - one of which however I was away, and the release was indeed late. Do remember that the wiki is editable, and you are encouraged to make amends; I will do it on this occasion. Of course, I shouldn't be on now - it's Christmas! - and I wish you a very merry holiday. -- Help me get to Venezuela! http://tibsplace.co.uk/venezuela -- ubuntu-marketing mailing list ubuntu-marketing@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-marketing
[ubuntu-marketing] DDCContrtol
Dear Ubuntu Team, I'm following developments in your system with great interest as I wish to migrate to Linux once and for all ASAP. However, since I'm not a Linux professional, there is one key feature that keeps me from doing this right now - lack of ddccontrol-like software. I have Samsung's Syncmaster 173P Plus, which has no integrated OSD and with my resolution (1280x1024) Ubuntu is not displayed properly on my monitor (the desktop seems to be "moved" ca. 1cm right, meaning I have a 1cm wide black line on the left, and 1cm of my desktop is "hidden" behind monitor's frame on the right). any info of progress on this matter? -- Krzysztof Radecki skype: kradecki MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- ubuntu-marketing mailing list ubuntu-marketing@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-marketing

I am very much facinated by the Ubuntu idea. Could you please send me a copy of Ubuntu DVD as I couldn't buy it online because we don't use Credit Cards here in Ethiopia. I am eager to see how much you have gone in the Amharic scripts area and how much we can do in our context. [ubuntu-marketing] suggestion: add gnome-PPP to base Ubuntu Feisty system
Hi - I'm a very satisfied Ubuntu user. I've installed Ubuntu Dapper on all of the computers I own, including an old computer with no ethernet card (but it has an ISA modem that works just fine with Linux). I then noticed that the base system of Dapper (and Edgy) did not include gnome-PPP, I either needed to download it or transfer it from another machine that had high speed access. However, for someone with no high speed Internet access, figuring out how to use a modem connection under Linux without gnome-PPP could be a difficult task. I'd like to suggest that you consider adding gnome-PPP to the base system of Ubuntu Feisty and future Ubuntu releases. In many rural areas of the United States, the only inexpensive Internet access option is dialup. I think that Ubuntu could become more popular in the rural United States if the system install included gnome-PPP if no ethernet card was detected, but a Linux-friendly modem was detected. thank you Chris Moriarity Takoma Park, MD USA -- ubuntu-marketing mailing list ubuntu-marketing@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-marketing

There's a somewhat misleading error in UWN 25. The program K-3D is listed under KDE related updates, however, the K in the name has nothing to do with KDE as the program uses GTK, not QT. It's a minor issue, but it might be worth making a small note in the next issue ;) thanks, -Derick Eisenhardt -- http://syntheticmotion.com -- ubuntu-marketing mailing list ubuntu-marketing@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-marketing
