[ubuntu-marketing] New project proposal: Ubuntu Live

2007-01-03 Thread Martin Albisetti
I wanted to propose a new project which I think might be interesting
from a marketing perspective.

I wrote up a wiki entry and a spec so I wouldn't litter the whole
place with the same info.

The main idea is having a webpage which shows in "real time" all the
activity Ubuntu has.
The final goal would be to have an API so users can add that to their
webpages and reflect users the tremendous amount of work done every
minute.
A good example of success is the "Firefox Download Counter".

I'd love some feedback and help.

Spec: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/ubuntu-live

[ubuntu-marketing] Bazaar t-shirt

2007-01-03 Thread Matthew Revell
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Howdy chaps,

I know, long time no speak and all of that :)

For people that don't know me, I look after marketing-style things for
Launchpad.

Something I'm working on at the moment is a t-shirt for Bazaar. I'm
looking for ideas from people that use Bazaar. I know that some of you
chaps do use Bazaar, plus you've got the all important marketing prowess :)

Here's what I've posted to the Bazaar mailing list:

"I'm working on a t-shirt that we can wear and give out
at conferences, sprints, etc.

It's a simple way to tell more people about Bazaar: we all know that
Bazaar rocks but relatively few people know it exists. The t-shirt
should let people know Bazaar exists and why it's cool.

What two or three things make Bazaar cool for you? The Bazaar t-shirt
should tell people, in ordinary language, how it can help them. So, I'd
like to pick your brains :)

Some things that I'll have in mind when working on the Bazaar t-shirt are:

* People should want to wear the t-shirt - they should feel good about
being associated with Bazaar.

* The t-shirt should be for open source developers, without being
totally obscure to non-developers.

* People that see the t-shirt should want to find out more.

The best ideas get a free t-shirt and the respect of your peers :)"

If you've got any thoughts, let me know :)

Re: [ubuntu-marketing] article on marketing of open source software

2007-01-03 Thread Catharina Bethlehem
With the help of Alan of this list I was able to improve the article on
marketing of open source and the role of the end user. It is now
published on Newsforge and I've also published it as a *course on
open-of-course
*. All
members are very welcome to join the course and help it develop and
spread the worth about open source.

Thanks a lot!

[ubuntu-marketing] [Bug 77311] provide list of Ubuntu hardware vendors

2007-01-03 Thread towsonu2003
Public bug reported:

I know about bug #63192 . This is more general.

The website needs to provide links to hardware vendors that either
provide Ubuntu-supported hardware parts, or Ubuntu preinstalled systems.

If nothing can be one, just link to vendors that provide Linux
preinstalled systems or Linux-supported hardware.

Worst case senario, link to this: http://www.us.debian.org/distrib/pre-
installed
