[ubuntu-marketing] Ubuntu QA Members

2007-04-09 Thread Brian Murray
As the owner of the Ubuntu QA team I wanted to start recognizing people
who are approved as members of the QA team. I have seen similar things
done for the approval of Ubuntu members. However, the approval of
people joining Ubuntu QA is an ongoing activity rather than a regularly
scheduled one. Perhaps we could list new QA members in the Bug Stats
section of Weekly Newsletter and rename the section to Bug Information?
Please let me know your thoughts and when I would need to submit new
members by to them make it into the weekly report.

Thanks,

Re: [ubuntu-marketing] Ubuntu Weekly News: Issue #35

2007-04-09 Thread Martin Albisetti
Matt:

I'm terribly sorry about that mistake, it seems I misunderstood it.
Due to the lack of contributors to the UWN, I'm not sure it's going to
be possible to do anything else then be extra careful. This is a
weekly effort and it's very hard to find people that can commit to
such a schedule.
Maybe someone else has a better idea, but again, I apologize for the
mistake, I'll make sure I triple check the headlines reflect as
accurately as possible what really is going on.

I see in the server section you have nothing on Ubuntu as a mail server.
Would you be interested in an input?

Ext4 was not dropped from Feisty. It is an experimental filesystem which
was never part of Feisty in the first place; its authors recommend against
using it for purposes other than development.

Something similar happened with the compiz announcement, where in Issue #30
the headline was "No Beryl or Compiz for Feisty" when in fact Feisty brings
great improvements in this area: compiz is installed by default and easier
than ever to enable.

I like the fact that UWN is informal and lightweight in its processes; it's
perhaps the only way to keep pace with events in the project and in the
community. However, I'm concerned about the effect of misleading headlines,
especially when they are reprinted in publications which are read by people
who don't follow project events first-hand.

What do you think we can do to help avoid further problems like this?

I'm running a 'series' about new features in Ubuntu Feisty on my blog,
complete with screenshots [1]. It's all CC-licensed (CC-BY-SA [2]), so
please feel free to take whatever you want. If the license is too
restrictive, I can always re-license it for you too. Hope you find it
useful.

Thanks,

Phil

[ubuntu-marketing] Italian translation of weekly news

2007-04-09 Thread Matthew East
Hi there,

I've noticed that there is a link on the UWN homepage to an italian
translation. However, the Italian community already produces a version
of the newsletter on its own wiki:

http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/NewsletterItaliana

This newsletter incorporates your weekly newsletter and adds Italian
specific news. It would be better to link to that, rather than
encouraging duplicated work by arranging for a separate translation in
Italian on the main wiki.
