Paper, coated with plastic. Pretty neat, IMO ;) Definitely a lot better
than what System76 sends.

Thanks for the info & links. Are the case badges printed on aluminum or
plastic?

You didn't search well enough [1] :)

The doc.ubuntu.com server folks have hinted that the MT stuff will have
to go, so we moved away from there to diy.devubuntu.com, our own :)
(provided by the devubuntu project).

The files are all under free licences - this particular one is mostly by
me, so let's say GPLv3 (I'm a big fan :)).
On another note, I have about a thousand of them printed out, and I send
them out to the community for as cheap as possible [2] - and have
already sent some 12000.

Except for this poor soul who volunteered to distribute the stickers in
Belgium and just got a 30 euro "sales and import tax" invoice today from
Belgian customs. :-/

Oh well, I suppose it's for a good cause...

But, more on-topic, it would be great if we could somehow have a list of
what to do or not to do when sending/receiving internationally, to avoid
such problems as much as possible. Maybe Canonical (shipit) or some
other people have some experience with this, and they can share that
experience?

The sticker distribution model is currently excellent; The 'buyer' pays for
the shipping by means of a Stamped-Address-Envelope (SAE). With System 76
donating/sponsoring the up-front production and initial shipment costs.

Additionally, because the stickers are posted out to a central target in
each country, the postage for each individual is kept low.

Perhaps in the end, the same idea could be supported for CD
distribution/postage as [AFAIK] shipping is the larger cost of shipit, even
with worldwide ground transport being used.

I don't think it needs to be aluminum, but at least it should be
somewhat sturdy. How about plastic?

And how about shipping "Powered by Ubuntu Linux" stickers with ShipIt,
instead of the generic ones?

Doesn't look aluminum to me...

(AFAIAC, aluminum seems very hard to get printing on - no luck so far)

I know I won't have any left over - but you can order from me by email.
the price is fair, I believe, and it will help the posters up. Even if I
did estimate the price wrong, all extras will continue to help Ubuntu -
either through marketing at my choice, or, if I run out of ideas, by
being donated to Ubuntu.

(should answer Pete's question too ?)

Thx,
