Hildon Desktop Icon Visibility Proposal

Ola,

PROPOSAL
The ability to switch the visibility of desktop icons without needing
to alter the .desktop file

MOTIVE
Currently on UME the icons are all together in /usr/share/applications.
If I alter an icon to OnlyShowIn (the current preferred method) when I
pull a new version of the software it will ask me if I want to use the
new .desktop file or continue with my version.
This is rather confusing IMO.
The ideal would be to have a specific directory for Hildon such as
/usr/share/applications/hildon-apps
everything that I want to show (make visible) is in this directory
which could be symlinked to /usr/share/applications
Perhaps even better would be something in the users home directory like:
 ~/.hildon-apps/
as this would stop the requirement for editing system archives

CURRENT CONFUSING SITUATION
For example, cheese does not have OnlyShowIn but it appears in hildon
...others also do not have OnlyShowIn and do not appear..it seems that
there is some special implementation (a.k.a hack) for ubuntu mobile

POSSIBLE BLOCKERS
The xdg spec doesn't currently provide such a feature I believe

just an idea anyway,

Two gconf keys:

/desktop/hildon/htmlhomeplugin/
/onlyshowin_filterCheck OnlyShowIn value in .desktop. If
_False_ then every .desktop is shown.
/onlyshowin_ignoreAlways show these apps, even if they
don't have OnlyShowIn. Cheese is in this list. Eventually this key
should go away when everyone is a good citizen.

I'm not sure if a subdirectory is OK. We do want to remain
freedesktop.org compliant.
