For cases like glut and freeglut you discribed, I believe the following
statement form Jan Claeys's URL usually apply:
"(except privately, amongst a cooperating group of packages)"
So that list is far from complete for all virtual packages used in
Debian.

In particularly this case, I am proposing to form and join a team to
help another team (MOTU-SRU) that I am not in. So it would not be the
same people in both teams in the first place. Daniel does belong to
both teams though (if a second one is formed, of course).

I understand your argument of reducing unnecessary infrastructures. But
I still believe a triage team for SRUed packages is necessary. Let's
face it: it's just not realistic to ask every MOTU/hopeful to look at
all bugs in universe. I was subscribed to -universe-bugs list for a few
months, couldn't keep up with the traffic and ended up doing nothing
useful.

We don't introduce burocracy because of having burocracy. We introduce
it because we want to ensure some level of quality, transparency and
efficiency.

I don't think that allowing everyone to just upload every ubuntu-dev
member to -updates would be a good idea. AFAIU everyone is allowed to
upload to edgy-proposed, but we ask them to diskuss this on malone
first. I think this is a good idea, but if you have a different opinion,
please contribute it on this list!

Just another team with the same ppl in as in our other teams?

I think this structure of teams will work if there are different ppl doing
different work. But the same ppl doing the same work (and what is different
from bug triaging for normal motu bugs, then triaging bugs for sru bugs?)

TBH, nowadays it's quite difficult for a newcomer to find out how MOTU
universe is working, with all this administration.

Why can't we go back to the "old" times of KISS (Keep it simple and stupid) so
that everybody can understand what we are doing and can help us?

Administration is good, Structure is better...but the people love us because
of simplicity not being XYZ with strange rules.

Just my thoughts,

Looking through the package list I can only find freeglut (the others
glut packages point back to the freeglut ones).

Ok, I looked into

http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/virtual-package-names-list.txt

but found no virtual package for glut. So what is the exact name for
the virtual glut package and how could I get a recent list?
