Apologies everyone! I was in the middle of a draft, and I pressed send by accident instead of save. Please do ignore this. Thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience! Re: importing packages (unihan and its Chinese handwriting packages) from sw-linux and fixing packaging bugs to REVU

The unmodified upstream tar.gz should be named "packagename_version.orig.tar.gz". dpkg-source will then create a .diff.gz with all additional changes (like the debian/ dir). > what is the exact procedure?| To get a package into Ubuntu universe, it needs to be reviewed. REVU is a web-based tool to help reviewing. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/REVU for a more verbose description and how to use it. An alternative way to get a package into Ubuntu is, is to get it included in Debian first and sync it then over to Ubuntu. In both cases you should check the current schedule to get your package ready before FeatureFreeze. FeatureFreeze for intrepid is on August 28th, so your package should be reviewed and ready for upload till mid of August. Adding it to the Ubuntu packages exclusively would be an extra delta that had to always be carried and not a good idea. Once it's in mainline we'll get it for free. Re: universe-contributors
I agree with Soren in that I prefer approach b), and I also think that ubuntu-universe-contributors should be something more than just plain membership, which does not necessarily mean that they need to become more privileges, but I see it as a way to say "this person has been doing good work on the packaging front" (so on the MOTU side it means more than just membership through a regional council, as it implies not only a significant contribution to Ubuntu, but that this contribution has a significant part which is related to packages). I don't know if thisreally makes sense, but well, it's just my 5 cent :). Regards, -- Siegfried-Angel Gevatter Pujals (RainCT) GNU/Linux User #438657. Hmm... Yes, there does indeed seem to be a bit of a dichotomy here. IIRC there were some good ideas back during the initial discussion > about universe-contributors, might eventually make sense to revisit these. I think this is the right approach. Perhaps a good start would be to move (at least some of) the branches belonging to ubuntu-dev to be owned by universe-contributors. However, it seems that this would effectively revoke ubuntu-core-dev's access to said branches since MOTU (not ubuntu-dev) is a member of universe-contributors.
