All hands on deck! It's REVU day!
Hi MOTUs, We are already well into REVU day, and we have 100 entries sitting in the queue waiting for a review. You may not think that reviewing is the most sexy MOTU task, but as long as we refer newcomers to REVU, we owe it to the community to review uploads. Each upload deserves at least one review. If it after that gets stuck in needs-work status, so be it. Perhaps someone else will come along later and care for it. But, in fact many of the packages have gone through several rounds of reviewing and can soon be finalized, and their uploaders are anxiously waiting. There are many exciting software packages to look at, and many that would be a big plus for Ubuntu users. So come along on #ubuntu-motu, get a friendly chat and brush up on your rusty reviewing skills. libc-client2007 transition
Hi all, I'd like confirmation that my plan for this situation makes sense. At the end of last year there was a small transition done to move from libc-client2007b to libc-client2007d. However, Debian then reverted this change (with an epoch), as they didn't want the SONAME bump in lenny. That package was synced, so we now have the reverse transition ready to move, with libc-client2007d on the NBS list. However, as we don't have the same SONAME concerns at this point, I'm not sure whether we should do this reverse transition. My proposal then is to prepare an upload of uw-imap, that has a really version number, to get back the libc-client2007d packages. We can then complete the transition with uploads to the half-dozen packages depending on the old SONAME. Once Debian has started the transition again we can sync once more. Does that make sense? Passing the REVU Coordinator title on...
Hello fellow MOTUs! As you may know, I currently am the REVU Coordinator [0], title which I took at the start of the Intrepid cycle because there hadn't been an active Coordinator for several months. However, personal reasons (like exams, other projects having more priority...) have impeded me lately to dedicate as much time as I'd like to REVU, and because of this I've decided that it's time to pass the title on to someone who'll make a better use of it. This doesn't mean that I'll stop working on REVU; I'll continue reviewing packages, hacking on it and helping with admin tasks when necessary, like I've been doing since I've joined the REVU team nearly a year ago, but I don't want to block other people with more enthusiasm to be creative improving REVU's workflow. I have spoken with Nathan Handler [1] about this and he is willing to take the position (quoting him, «I should be able to devote a fair amount of time to it. And I would be honored to serve as REVU Coordinator»). Of course, if someone else would like to apply for the role, he may do so now (and then we'll do a voting to choose between the candidates, or whatever the election procedure is right now). If nobody else steps up (and nobody has anything against this) then I'd like to transfer the role to him.
