If you object "strongly" it would help if you explained why.

Setting needs-packaging bugs to wishlist is what always has been done,
even if it was undocumented practice. Brian stepped up to the plate to
automate parts of the workflow and have a common approach to those bugs.
I appreciate his efforts there.

Could you please explain the reasons why you object to setting those

Hi Brian,

first off, why didn't you CC ubuntu-m...@l.u.c, who are most affected?

I strongly object to both the specification and the result of you
running that script.

motu-release meeting Feb 3rd - very short minutes

2009-02-10 Thread Stefan Potyra
Hi folks,

just a short heads up, sorry that I didn't come around to
write a few points of the results of the meeting yet. So here a few
points we discussed. Please refer to the full log, in case you're
interested in getting the full picture at [1].

1) grilling Iulian
first off, after the call for volunteers, Iulian was the victim to
become a member of motu-release. Questions were asked and Iulian
answered them all to our consent [and he's a member
   of motu-release in the meantime].

2) bi-weekly ubuntu-release meetings:
Scottk brought this up, and thought it would be good if a motu-release
person would be there (luckily, ScottK fullfilled this quite good last
release and volunteered to do the same for jaunty -- of course other
   members are invited, too!)

3) new packages:
We'll take a harder policy in regrads to NEW this time, so bring in your
pet package before FF, otherwise we'll just say NO!

other items of action:
* DktrKranz to take a stab at drafting a motu-release policy.
* sistpoty to review motu-release delegations.
* DktrKranz to book ubuntu-meeting for next meeting [already done].

Finally, next organisational meeting will take place on
  Monday 16th - 19:00 UTC, #ubuntu-meeting.

Cheers,
Stefan.

Re: motu-release team needs members

2009-02-10 Thread Stefan Potyra
Hi,

thanks to Iulian, we're back at 4 members right now. Maybe someone is
still interested in becoming the 5th member, so that we'd be back at
full strength for jaunty's freeze?

Quoting myself:
> If you know the impact of upgrades at late stages, don't shy away from

Oh, and being a MOTU is required.

Side-word: Imho we could also need bug-triagers that help with looking at
and sorting incomplete FFe requests, or to ping FFe requestors after
some time of inactivity...
Is this the right list to ask for those? (If not, please bounce to the
correct location).

Cheers,
Stefan.

As suggested by Chow at
http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?upid=4981 - you will have to
patch[1] the upstream Makefile (at line 15) to make it understand what
DESTDIR means, eg:

- cp $(OUTFILE) /usr/bin/$(OUTFILE)
+cp $(OUTFILE) $(DESTDIR)/usr/bin/$(OUTFILE)

Cheers,
Jonathan

Packaging Trouble [star-merchant]

2009-02-10 Thread Christopher Swift
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello I am seeking help regarding an application that I am trying to
package. I have uploaded my source.changes to
http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?upid=4981. I understand that the
debian/watch file is not completed yet however I will tackle that issue
as I come to it (but if you wish to help with that now feel free).

The problem is listed in my blog, is someone able to help me fix it?
Also the project is _without_ a configure file.

Thanks in advance,
Chris.

That would be a requirement for it to be backported, of course.

In general Ubuntu does _NOT_ update packages in released versions of the distro.
Exxceptions are made for security issues and for very nasty bugs. Updating a
package
just to get a new version pretty much never happens. This is because:

* it takes man power away from the current development release
* the risk of regressions

If you really want the new version anyway, you can always install it
manually or try to see if someone packaged it at getdeb or similar.

I checked in jaunty now and it seems that the current jaunty version
of widelands is 1:12-3 :(

Hopefully someone will package v13 before jaunty at least.
