We are doing no-change rebuilds to build the packages against jack1. Debian is
rebuilding everthing against jack1, but allowing them to be used with either
jac1 or jack2, so thatsw what is being done in Ubuntu. The no-change rebuild
only changes how the package depends on libjack. It depends on the library for
libjack2 or the library for libjack1.

Hope this helps clear things up

Slight correction, some of these packages are still installable, however in
order to be used with jackd2, they still need to be rebuilt.

Requesting help to rebuild packages depending on libjack0

2010-07-21 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi all,
With the recent jack transition in Debian, and now in Ubuntu, the shlibs for
packages that use jack have changed. At the moment, the vast majority of
applications that use jack are uninstallable, due to changing jack library
package names. So, we need to rebuild packages that use jack. Here is a rough
list taken from apt-cache output. Note that these are binary packages.

Help from the MOTU community is much appreciated. All of these should be a
no-change rebuild. I will take care of the packages in main, portaudio19,
pulseaudio, alsa-plugins. I'm also going to start on universe packages,
focusing on packages shiped in UbuntuStudio, so we can get buildable disks for
studio ASAP.

If someone wants to track these on a wiki/bug somewhere, feel free to do so.
Since I have other things to attend to, I don't have the time to do that right
now, but I should have the packages in main taken care of shortly.

Thanks all in advance.

Ok, seems that only Emmet can do this. Whilst I am an admin, I can't allow
others to be admins. Emmet is the owner of the team, so he will have to take
care of this task I think.

Request new ubuntu universe sponsors admin.

2009-09-30 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi all
Lately, new MOTUs who have wanted to be on the universe sponsors team in
Launchpad have had a bit of a hassle tracking down a team admin to add them.
There are currently 2 admins, myself, and Emmet. Both of us tend to cover the
eastern time zones, and don't really cover Europe and the US very well.

So I think its time we add another admin from that general area to field
requests for new team member additions when myself and Emmet are not around. If
anybody is interested, please contact me, and I can set you up with admin
access to the team. The workload is rather light, as there is generally very
little to be done.

NOTE: You must already be a MOTU, and preferably have experience with
sponsoring uploads, and dealing with the universe sponsors team workflow.

Thanks

This package used to be in karmic, but was removed, since it was part of gcc
3.3, if I recall correctly. There is likely a removal reason somewhere on
Launchpad's pages for gcc-3.3.

Your package contains new components which requires manual editing of
the override file. It is ok otherwise, so please be patient. New
packages are usually added to the overrides about once a week.

You may have gotten the distroseries wrong. If so, you may get warnings
above if files already exist in other distroseries.

Its certainly worth looking into, however at least at a glance from the
homepage, upstream is rather dead, and generally we look more favourably on
software that has a reasonably active upstream.

Once the powerpc has cleared its build queue, I am happy to go through the
powerpc FTBF list, and work out why packages didn't build, and try and get them
buildable again. Note that main will largely be ok in this regard, but universe

I think we do need someone else, particularly to cover the europe/early US
timezones, as Emmet and my self are somewhat similar in our timezones. I
currently don't have any ideas as to how we could elect someone else, but Emmet
may be able to chime in here.

Review request for rtkit.

2009-07-01 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi all
I'd like to ask for any MOTUs with some time to have a look at rtkit on revu,
http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?upid=6234. This package will be making
its way to main as soon as it is in universe, to be used with pulseaudio. While
its not currently time critical, the sooner its reviewed and I can get it
uploaded, the better.

Thanks in advance

How many kernel variants do you have per architecture? Have you also considered
basing your kernels on the Ubuntu mainline kernels? If so, I am happy to work
with you to help get a git tree set up so you can use the Ubuntu mainline
kernel source as a base.

You will need to keep up with the kernel related changes for Ubuntu as it gets
developed, so that if someone uses your kernel, nothing breaks/regresses. Also
note that its too late to get it in for jaunty now, however karmic could easily
be the cycle used to get the kernels in and tested etc.

> I am sending this email to find out if there are some general objections
> against this idea or if it might be worth trying the normal REVU
> process.

No objections from me, but I suggest you consider the time needed to maintain
the kernels, because if they sit to rot in the archive, and an Ubuntu userspace
change breaks their functionality, there will be greater reason for them to be
removed from the archive.

> Anyone interested can take a look at the packages in my ppa at [2].

I'll take a look at them in the next week or so to see how you currently put
them together.

Write one, and put it in the debian dir, and use dh_manpages to install it into

Stepping down from MOTU SRU.

2008-08-05 Thread Luke Yelavich

Hash: SHA1

Hi all
I'm writing to announce that I have decided to step down from MOTU SRU. Due to
other areas of Ubuntu keeping my attention for a while, I am not helping out as
much as I'd like with MOTU, and feel that I'm letting the SRU process down, as
I am not giving it enough attention. So I feel someone who feels enthusiastic
about the SRU procedure, and can breathe new life into it should take over.

I'll stick around in the team until someone is found to replace me.

Thanks for the opportunity to help out the MOTU community in this way, it has
been a great learning experience, and I wish my successor the best of luck.

Ubuntu Universe Sponsors Queue: It needs you!

2008-06-23 Thread Luke Yelavich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Greetings all
With Debian Import Freeze only days away, and with a large number of merges
still outstanding for universe/multiverse, I ask all MOTUs to please give some
time to the ubuntu universe sponsors queue,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-universe-sponsors. While its better if you
are a member of the team to be able to unsubscribe the team from bugs still
needing work, I think at this stage, simply processing the requests is enough.

With many contributors filing sponsor requests daily, the sponsors queue
regularly needs attention from those who can upload to universe/multiverse. If
all active MOTUs processed 5-10 requests a day, we could easily keep the queue
down to a workable amount of requests.

Contributors, I ask that you do a few things before submittng your sponsor
request bugs:
* PLEASE!! Test build your package changes in a pbuilder/sbuild chroot. You can
find some information about this at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebootstrapChroot
and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PbuilderHowto.
* Please make sure you document any changes clearly in your changelog entries.
Note that updating the maintainer for an Ubuntu package is a change, and should
be documented as such.
* Close the sponsor request bug in the changelog entry, using the LP: #nn
syntax, where nn is the bug number.
* File bugs in Debian's bug tracking system http://bugs.debian.org to send
Debian any useful changes that have been made to the Ubuntu package.

Doing the above allows MOTUs to process the sponsors queue as quickly as
humanly possible, which will result in more requests being processed, and more
merges/syncs being completed.

Thanks for your time.

Luke Yelavich
Ubuntu Universe Sponsors team Administrator.

I would rather not, as I can't be sure I can get to the keyboard, let alone

MOTU Meeting minutes for May 9th, 2008.

2008-05-11 Thread Luke Yelavich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi folks
Please find below the minutes from the MOTU meeting dated May 9th, 2008. You
can also find these minutes at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Meetings/2008-05-09. Feel free to contact me or
the list if you feel something needs clarrification.

Meeting Minutes for Friday, May 9th, 2008.

= Name/need for MOTU fan club? =

 * Jordon brought up something that was raised at a previous MOTU meeting, in
that some people wish to have a Launchpad team to join, to show association
with MOTU/universe development.
 * Points were raised as to this being used purely as a badge hunt.
 * Jordon then stated that it could be used for people to show interest in
helping MOTU, dispite the fact they are not yet an Ubuntu member, etc.
 * Jordon will write an email to the MOTU mailing list about the idea, and if
there is enough interest, a wiki page can be written up.

= Require 7 day aging period in -proposed for SRUs? =

 * Jordon raised the issue of the MOTU stable release updates (SRU) procedure
stating that 2 + votes, and 0 - votes are needed for a package to be copied to
-updates. There is nothign said about an aging period. However, Archive admins
let uploads to proposed age for 7 days before taking further action.
 * Jordon, as an SRU team member, believed that the two procedures should be
synced appropriately, allowing for room to move if needed.
 * It was agreed to do this, by all at the meeting, however some felt that
other SRU members not at the meeting, should be emailed and asked about their
thoughts. As Luke was at the meeting, he already voiced his agreement.

= General thoughts on microrelease exceptions to "minimal diff" requirement for
SRUs =

 * At the current time, the technical board approves packages that make stable
micro-releases available, such as firefox, thunderbird, and postgresql.
 * Jordon believes that MOTU SRU could approve packages in universe that have a
similar scheme, such as GNOME related packages that have a stable branching
scheme.
 * Jordon wold like to see this as being possible, as in its current form, SRUs
usually only fix one bug, whereas a new upstrea micro-release may fix the SRU
bug, as well as 4/5 other bugs, that while not reported in ubuntu, are still
good to have fixed.
 * Others at the meeting agreed that this is something that would be worthwhile
pursuing. Jordon says he is already discussing with the relevant release
management aprties about this, as well as looking into what testing is done
upstream, where the package is likely to get more testing than it would in
-proposed.

= Next MOTU Meeting =

It was decided that due to UDS being under way in two weeks time, the next MOTU
meeting will be on the 30th of May, at 12:00 UTC.

Hi folks
The next MOTU meeting will be held on Friday May 30th, 2008. It is one week
later, due to UDS the previous week, and a lot of attention and time will still
be focused on that event.

MOTU meetings are free for anybody to attend who is interested in the goings on

Are there logs available from the first session? I don't mind not attending a
session, but logs of a session would be useful.

Thanks.

I have worked on and off with Michele for the last 6 or so months, and can
honestly say that his work has constantly improved. He works very well as part
of a team, asking people if help is needed, and making sure no toes are stepped
on with merging/bugfixing work. I am happy to recommend that he become a MOTU,
and welcome his offer to help with sponsorship of uploads. I think we are
gaining a valuable member in Michele, and wish him all the best for the future.

I am writing to ask all MOTU hopefuls requesting sponsorship for uploads to
please not remove debdiffs from a bug, if you have had to make a change.
Leaving the debdiffs attached to the bug is fine, and allows future reviewing

I'd just like to say that I do this already. I absolutely refuse to sponsor any

I'd be for this change, and I'd help with only stage 2, as I find it easier to
work with people who know what they are doing for the most part. Yes I
can help newbies, but sometimes I find it difficult to explain things that I
understand myself, and seem easy to me, but often newcomers don't always
understand what I'm saying.

I wouldn't say my current mentorees are stage 2, but they are mostly past stage
1, so until they are ready to apply for MOTU, I am happy to continue
working with them. After that, as above, I'd be glad to work with stage 2.

Ubuntu MOTU Meeting Minutes for Friday, 19 October, 12:00 UTC.

== Adjusting the freeze schedule ==
Emmet Hikory (Persia) raised the discussion of changing the freeze schedule for
hardy, in light of it being an LTS release. Possible adjustments were as
follows:
 * Not allowing any new packages.
 * Matching UVF / NPUF with DIF.
 * Requiring specs for everything.
After much discussion, it was decided that new packages freeze would occurr at
the same time as upstream version freeze.

== Universe rebuilds ==
A question was raised about universe rebuilds. This involves rebuilding all
packages in universe from source, to pick up any build problems. It was decided
to attempt to add this to the schedule, at least once, either at Debian Import
Freeze, or upstream version freeze. Beta was raised as a possible rebuild
point, but lack of time to build lots of packages soon saw this option
dismissed. Lucas Nussbaum will be contacted to arrange this.

== Universe SQ measures for Hardy ==

A discussion was started about what can be done to improve Universe's QA for
hardy, besides unmet dependencies, and packages that fail to build from source.
Desktop files was raised as a possibility, but since these are not yet
translatable in rosetta, it shouldn't be something actively pursued.

The use of packaging and bytesize tags was briefly discussed, and while they
are useful for pointing new contrivuters at tasks to do, they often sit there
and not get touched. Forwarding bugs upstream was also something that should be
actively pursued, and encouraged.

Finally, there was discussion about transitions, as we have to support dapper
to hardy upgrades, from LTS release to LTS release. Package removals was also
touched on, with removing packages an area that needs further discussion.

== UDS specs ==
At the next Ubuntu Developer's Summit, being held in Boston, the MOTUs in
attendance are planning to have a discussion on packaging in general, and
things relating to Universe, as follows:
 * Review bzr best practices.
 * Revisit the apckaging guide on the wiki.
 * Revisit Ubuntu Proccess docs on the wiki.

== Next meeting time ==
Since the Ubuntu Developer's Summit is fast approaching, ti was decided to skip
a week, and hold another meeting once most people have returned, and recovered
from their trips. The next MOTU meeting will be held on Friday, 9 November,
2887, at 20:00 UTC.

== Next REVU Day ==
Yes, since we are now into a new cycle, there is a REVU day planned for Monday,
5 November 2007.

It sounds like the mirror you are using is broken somehow. I Suggest re-running
apt-get update
and check to see whether the problem persists. If not, you will likely have to
wait till the
mirror you use syncs again.

The times have been rotated recently, between 0 and 12 UTC.

This is why people need to speak up. If you want a different day, just say so,
and it will be taken as a
suggestion.

As it is, nobody has put anything concrete forward as a suggestion, so I would
like to propose Friday, October
5th, at 20:00UTC. I know it doesn't suit those of us in the asia
pacific/oceniania, but we have been present
at a lot of recent meetings, so I think its time we gave more people in
Europe/US a chance to attend.

If no other suggestions are put forward in the next 24 hours, this time will
become the next meeting time.

Ubuntu MOTU Meeting Minutes, for September 21st, 2007, 12:000 UTC.

2007-09-23 Thread Luke Yelavich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hey folks.
Please find below, a copy of the minutes from our MOTU meeting, held this past
Friday, September 21st, at
12:00 UTC. You can also find the minutes at the following URL:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Meetings/2007-09-21.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

MOTU Meeting Minutes for Friday, September 21st, 2007, 12:00UTC.

== Sponsorship process and PPAs ==
Scott Kitterman (ScottK) wanted the sponsorship process, particularly the
alternative process of using a PPA for sponsored uploads clarrified. He felt it
was necessary, at least for him, to have a debdiff attached to a sponsorship
bug for reviewing of a package, and felt it was more time consuming to have to
grab a .dsc file, download the package, and manually create a debdiff. It was
decided tht atht ppaput tool, which is part of ubuntu-dev-tools, should have an
option to generate a debdiff, and while users could use their ppa, debdiff
should still be requested. Daniel Holbach (dholbach) stated that he would work
on adding the needed functionality to ppaput.

== The TODO ==
Dholbach pointed out that https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/TODO has now got
additional content to draw attention to bugs needing attention for new
contributers. The lists are easy to update, but they require people to tag bugs
as packaging or bytesize, if the person reviewing the bug doesn't have time to
fix it themselves. Everybody is requested to help with this effort.

== Wiki reorganisation ==
Dholbach has started working on cleaning up the wiki, once and for all, as seen
on the MOTU Mailing List. He intends to make lists of pages that need work,
through taggint them. They will be then up for comment. Once again, he requests
others to help getting the pages sorted, particularly the documentation, which
has een known to be confusing or out of date on many occasions.

== Next meeting ==
It was decided that two weeks from this meeting is appropriate, but a time
wasn't agree upon. Luke Yelavich (TheMuso) offered to post to the MOTU Mailing
List, requesting suggestions on what time the meeting should be held.

== Universe Hug Day ==
Since these tend to not occur, or only a few peope participate, it was decided
to role the Universe hug days into the general hug days, that are announced on
most mailing lists, and occur regularly. The option is still open in the future
for universe hug days to be a separate event.

== MOTU Q&A Sessions ==
dholbach intennds to run a Q&A session on Friday, September 28th, at 12:00UTC,
in #ubuntu-motu. All who can help out, or who have questions, are free to come
along and participate.

RFC, next meeting time.

2007-09-21 Thread Luke Yelavich

Hey folks
At the MOTU meeting which has just completed, those of us who were present were
not able to come to a decision
about the next meeting time/date. We agreed that it should be in two weeks from
now, but couldn't agree on an
exact time. Two times were suggested, 20:00UTC, and 04:00UTC, but none were
agreed upon.

So, we need to decide on a time. Since we need to have this decided by next
Thursday at the latest, I suggest
people put forward times over the next three days, and then we give three days
for a vote to be made. If
anybody has a suggestion as to how to conduct this better, please speak up
soon, so we can get things under
way.

Plese note, MOTU hopefuls are also very much welcome to attend the meeting, and
thus you are welcome to put
forward a time that you think may suit. Please also note that all times should
be in UTC.

Thanks for your time.

Meeting minutes for Saturday, September 8, 2007, 0:00 UTC.

== MOTU SRU process ==
Mario Limonciello (superm1) wanted the procedure for MOTU stable release
updates (SRUs) clarrified, particularly in relation to the role of archive
admins. The following clarifications were made.
 * The motu-sru team is not used.
 * Archive admins don't check anything more than the version number when going
to -proposed.
 * Subscribe ubuntu-archive, who can do more throughout checks.
 * Version numbers shouldn't have ~proposed1, but a check for conflicts with
security updates needs to be made.
 * Anybody can comment that a package works for them, when it is in the testing
phase, i.e not only MOTUs, but anyone in the community.
 * Any remarks that the package works have to be for the latest -proposed
upload, and from that point, the 7 day period restarts.

Luca Falavigna (dktrkranz) also requested clarification of the sponsorship
process for SRUs. The concolusion was that MOTUs aren't comfortable with
helping with SRUs, due to either a lack of understanding, or confusion about
the procedure. It was decided that once the document is updated to clarify the
above points, encouraging MOTUs to become familiar with the SRU procedure
should be a priority. Superm1 kindly offered to update the wiki.

== Meeting attendance ==

Luke Yelavich (TheMuso) started a discussion relating to the small number of
attendees at recent MOTU meetings, noting that there are a few who regularly
attend, but thats about it. This has the added effect of meeting times only
being set to times that the regular attendees can turn up.

It was decided that a message should be sent to the MOTU mailing list, asking
for opinions from others in the community, and also encouraging those who
aren't yet MOTUs to also attend, as the meeting is for anybody who is
interested in the MOTU community. TheMuso offered to send the mail.

== Next MOTU Meeting ==
The next MOTU meeting will be held on Friday September 21st, at 12:00 UTC.

== PPA Packaging 101 session ==
A packaging 101 session for those who are interested in making use of PPAs is
in the works, and will be announced shortly.

Hey folks
The next Universe hug day is this Friday. This time, we are planning on putting
together a list of packages with lots
of bugs, and/or bugs that are easy to fix. This will hopefully give new and
existing contributers something to work on,
without having to spend time looking for bugs to fix.

Suggestions for packages with bugs that may be easily fixable are very welcome.
Feel free to reply to this mail with
your suggestions/thoughts.

Ubuntu MOTU Meeting Minutes, for August 24 2007, at 12:000 UTC.

2007-08-26 Thread Luke Yelavich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hey folks.
Please find below, a copy of the minutes from our MOTU meeting, held this past
Friday, August 24, at 12:00 UTC. You can
also find the minutes at the below URL:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Meetings/2007-08-24.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Meeting minutes for Friday, August 24, 12:00 UTC.

This was a relatively short meeting, with the agenda items being fixed items,
however a discussion about current UVF
workflow was discussed. See below.

== UVF Workflow and policy ==
A recent discussion was started on IRC in the #ubuntu-motu channel about
upstream version freeze (UVF) requests, and native packages for derivative
distros, such as UbuntuStudio, Mythbuntu, etc. Since these derivatives have
several packages in the archive that contain settings, artwork, and seeds for
packages that would be included on CDs, these projects were wondering whether
they need to file an UVF exception request for these packages. The concensus
was that for such derivatives, infrastructure/native packages should be given
an immediate waver. That is, no UVF exceptions requests need to be filed.

Some decisions were also made concerning UVF exception request workflow. These
are as follows:
1. The motu-uvf team should be subscribed, not assigned for UVF exception
request bugs.
2. Blanket UVF exception for ubuntustudio/mythbuntu/xubuntu (if any) only
packages, as mentioned above.

Finally, The UVF team also request that you please seriously consider the
reasons of requesting a UVF exception for a package. Stupid requests, and/or
dangerous newer versions of packages will be dealt with accordingly.

== Next meeting time ==
The next MOTU meeting will be held on Saturday, September 8, at 00:00 UTC.

== Next hug day ==
The next universe hug day will be held this Friday, August 31. The plan is for
a list of packages with important bugs to be made available, so that people
have something they can turn up, and get working on right away, without having
to trawl Launchpad to find them. It would be great to see as many of you there
as possible.

== REVU days ==
Since new package freeze is this Thursday, August 30, every day should now be
considered a REVU day. MOTUs, please consider spending your MOTU time on
package reviewing. Those who have uploaded new packages to REVU, please request
a review in #ubuntu-motu on irc.freenode.net, to ensure your package gets
attention.

== Next Q&A sessions ==
Daniel Holbach (dholbach) has offered to run the Q&A sessions. The next session
will be on Friday, September 7, at 12:00 UTC. Volunteers are welcome to also
run a session on Saturday, September 8, at 00:00 UTC.

REVU days are now every Monday.

2007-07-29 Thread Luke Yelavich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hey folks.
As you may have seen in the recent MOTU meeting minutes, we decided to
make REVU days every Monday. This ensures that there is no confusion as
to when attention should be given to REVU, and gives package uploaders a
clear idea of when they are likely to get their package reviewed.

So if you are a package uploader, please either mail the ubuntu-motu, or
ubuntu-motu mentors lists, or post a request on #ubuntu-motu on IRC.
Preference will be given to packages that are not yet in the archive,
but if you have a package update, please let us know, and we will have a
look when we can.

Today being a Monday, at least in some parts of the world, is an ideal
time to get reviewing.

Ubuntu MOTU Meeting Minutes, for July 27 2007, at 0:00 UTC.

2007-07-29 Thread Luke Yelavich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hey folks.
Please find below, a copy of the MOTU meeting minutes, for July 27 2007,
at 0:00 UTC. These can also be found on the wiki, at the below URL:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Meetings/2007-07-27

If you have any queries about these minutes, or the meeting in general,
please feel free to contact me, or anybody mentioned in the minutes.

== SRU discussion... Again ==
Emmet Hikory (persia) started a discussion about the criteria for approval of
SRU nominations. Points were raised as to whether the approver should sponsor
the SRU, with a consensus that it would be nice of them to do so, but they
don't have to. The resolution was the following: "Nominations should be
approved if a developer believes that the issue meets, or may meet, the
criteria for an SRU." Those who put forward nominations, should also ask on IRC
in #ubuntu-motu, and or on the mailing list, for approval.

== Q&A Sessions ==
Although never on the agenda, the usefulness of the Q&A sessions is a constant
discussion point at meetings, no less for this one. Points were raised as to
whether people putting up new packages on REVU are making use of these
sessions, and are even caring enough to read the documentation on the wiki.
There were also calls for abolishing the sessons entirely, with the decision
that this should happen only if its put on the agenda for a future meeting.

== REVU ==
With REVU being partially raised during the Q&A sessions discussion, the
discussion moved to REVU in more detail. As previously stated, many packages
are being uploaded, and many requests for review are being made, but the
packages, besides sometimes containing a few patches, are often wrong in very
obvious ways. A query on whether the documentation "isnt clear enough, doesnt
exist, there arent enough examples, or people arent reading and understanding
them."(Sarah Hobbs (Hobbsee)) Packages have also been noted to sit on REVU, and
either don't get reviewed at all, or aren't updated for months. Scott Kitterman
(ScottK) spent some time last week going through packages that haven't received
updates since May, asking if the package uploaders are still interested in
getting their packages in. "If no one responds by next week (two weeks to
respond) I'm going to archive." (ScottK)

Persia and Luke Yelavich (TheMuso) also brought up an experiment that they
attempted, along with a package on REVU, and its uploader, yet were unsure
whether it worked yet. The experiment entailed fixing any packaging errors,
both for the Ubuntu packaging itself, as well as the upstream Makefile. The
biggest issue that was raised, was how to manage revisions, whether the
original uploader actually learnt anything, and the fact that those issues
fixed by TheMuso and Persia weren't clearly stated as their fixes. As it was,
the package was accepted into the archive.

== MOTU drive in the works ==
Hobbsee stated that there were plans in the works for a big MOTU drive. "How
can the current MOTU team become more effective in reviews, and making sure
that things from new contributors are good enough to be *worth* reviewing."
(Hobbsee) She requested all meeting attendees to have a thhink about it, and
put any ideas forward at the next MOTU meeting.

== UVF Team poll reminder ==
A reminder for all MOTUs to vote in the UVF team poll, as posted to the list by
Daniel Holbach.

== Next meeting, and REVU times ==
The next MOTU meeting will be on 10 August, at 04:00 UTC. REVU days were deemed
to be every Monday, as that is easy for everybody to remember, and ensures that
REVU gets more attension.

motutools renamed and changed.

2007-04-25 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi all
Motutools has now been renamed. To reflect a wider scope of
contribution, the motutools product is now known as ubuntu-dev-tools.
The trunk branch has also been moved from the MOTU team, to the
ubuntu-dev team. This allows core devs to be able to contribute their
scripts as well.

You can find all branches for ubuntu-dev-tools here:
http://launchpad.net/products/ubuntu-dev-tools/+branches

To pull the trunk for ubuntu-dev-tools, use the following URL:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-dev/ubuntu-dev-tools/trunk

Enjoy!

I have tried to get this done, but am not familiar enough with how
launchpad, and its maintainers are to be contacted eg about this. Could
somebody who knows LP etc get the motutools product renamed?
Alternatively, we could just create a new product...

This is to do with the call for people to have a look at the MOTU

Useful packaging/development scripts repository.

2007-03-27 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hi all
As you may have read in the latest meeting minutes, it was decided to
put together a repository of useful tools that MOTUs use to do Ubuntu
work, with the eventual inclusion in the archives as a package. I have
created a product in Launchpad, [1] and also created a bzr branch for
the MOTU team. [2]

Please feel free to add any useful scripts to the repository that you
think others wil find useful. Improvements to any tools is always
welcome, as we all benefit in the end.

If you are not a MOTU hopeful, but would like to contribute your own
tools/improvements, feel free to create your own branches under the
motutools product, or pass your changes onto a MOTU, and we will merge
your additions.

Any suggestions/questions, feel free to ask on the mailing list, or in
the #ubuntu-motu IRC channel.

Enjoy!

MOTU meeting minutes, Tuesday, March 27, 2007.

2007-03-27 Thread Luke Yelavich
MOTU Meeting, Tuesday, March 26, 2007.

== Work out MOTU Council's charter ==
As the MOTU council is still finding its way in the community, a
proposal was created on the wiki, located at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Council/Charter. Stefan Potyra (sistpoty)
requested all people present at the meeting to read it, and state what
they thought.
 * Everybody was happy with the proposal.
 * It was decided to keep the statement about the MOTU council mediating
any disputes amongst the MOTU, if ever they arrised.
 * Due to the fact that all MOTUs, and MOTU hopefuls work well together,
promoting MOTU, particularly in blogs was raised.
 * Corey Burger (Burgundavia) said he would chase up the Behind Ubuntu
people to organise more interviews with MOTU members.
 * A suggestion was raised to put a final call for opinions on the MOTU
mailing list, as there were very few MOTUs present at the meeting. THis
was agreed upon. Sistpoty will email the list about the charter.

== Other business ==
There were no other items on the agenda, but a few points were raised
that warranted discussion.
 * Luke Yelavich (TheMuso) asked about whether it would be worth using
some sort of system to indicate who is doing what merge, for the next
release cycle, particularly as more people are coming abord to help.
 * All agreed that this was a valid concern. Sistpody had originally
coded something for use a couple of release cycles back, but the code is
badly out of date, and needs updating to work with launchpad again.
 * Help will be greatfully accepted from anybody to get this tool ready
for feisty+1.
 * The current code base is in a bzr repository, and can be branched
from http://tiber.tauware.de/~sistpoty/mergeWebTool.
 * Being able to add comments to packages needing merging at
merges.ubuntu.com was raised, with Tollef Fog Heen (Mithrandir) stating
that any requests/issues with Merge oMatic (MoM) should be addressed to
either him, or Matthias Klose (doko).
 * Since there are many tools that people use to make MOTU/packaging
work easier, it was suggested that a package be put together with
commonly used tools/scripts that people may find useful.
 * It was decided that a motutools product would be created on
Launchpad, and a bzr branch be created. TheMuso will create the product,
and announce it to the mailing list.

== Next meeting time ==
The next MOTU meeting will be on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 20:00UTC.
Hope to see you there.

This and the IRC log shall be on the wiki shortly.

What is the license of the code? Looking at the first zip file, I can't

Hi Cesare, we would love to have your help working on universe. We are
always looking for more people to help out with the truck load of work
we have to do. :)

> Please let me know if and how I can be of help.

I am going to assume that you know very little to nothing about
packaging, so I would suggest you have a read of the packaging guide,
available at http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/packagingguide/C/index.html.
You also may want to have a look through the material we have on the
wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU.

We are close to the end of the Feisty cycle at this point, so its pretty
much only bug fixing. Even so, there is still a lot to do.

I suggest you also jump onto IRC, and connect to the Freenode network.
There you will find us in #ubuntu-motu, and we would be happy to answer
any questions, or give you any assistance where possible.

If anybody else wants to add anything, please feel free to do so.

The thing with drupal is, whoever uses it usually grabs a fresh tarball
from the website anyway. Debian/Ubuntu have been at 4.5 for ages, and
drupal is orphaned.

If people would like to see the latest drupal release, please let me

MOTU Meeting Minutes from Wednesday, February 14, 2007.

2007-02-14 Thread Luke Yelavich
Hey folks

The following is a wrap up of today's MOTU meeting.

No REVU for new packages from MOTUs
* As it is, we always seem to be lagging behind.
* A number of MOTUs seem to skip this step anyway.
* It was felt that MOTUs shouldn't have the same requirements as
  non-MOTUs to add packages.
* THe intended practise was that a MOTU would add a new package to
REVU, whereby it would only require one ACK for upload.
* A proposal was put forward that MOTUs should be encouraged to use
  REVU for new packages.
* Tfheen was fine with MOTUS requiring no review for new packages, but
if there ended up being too many rejections, he felt that it would
  need to be reconsidered.
* It was ultimately decided to defir this decision to the MOTU council,
which will be meeting for the first time, late next week.

Packages with debian dirs from upstream
* ScottK was not present at the meeting, so he was unable to
put forth his views on the matter, but it was quickly decided
that it would be up to the packager as to what was done.
* Sistpoty volunteered to update the MOTU FAQ.

Do we want zero-install injector?
* The function of the package was briefly discussed, and various views
were put forth as to whether it should be included in universe.
* It was suggested to ask the archive admins to have a look at the
package. Tfheen was around, and after a short examination, said it
  looked ok.
* Ultimately, the package's fate will be decided once it is in the new
  queue.

Review UVF team/UVF process
* Since UVF has recently come into effect, this item was put forth to
confirm that the current process still works, and that the existing
MOTU UVF team members are still happy to do the job.
* Eventually, new UVF teams will be approved by the MOTU Council.
* Dholbach, siretart, and slomo are the current MOTU UVF team members.
* Dholbach was satisfied with how things were progressing, and he will
attend to remaining UVF requests today.

upcoming FF... another revu-sprint?
* The suggestion of another REVU sprint was put forward, which was
  unanimously agreed upon.
* There was some confusion as to whether another REVU sprint was already
scheduled, which wasn't the case, so days were proposed for another
  sprint to occurr.
* The decided days were this Monday, February 19, and Tuesday, February
  20.

Update TODOs
* In short, there is still plenty to be done.
* Lists for unmet dependencies will be created, very likely in the form
  of mass bug filing.
* Dholbach noted that there was an upcoming transition, but the docs for
that are not ready yet, PyDbgBuilds.
* Merges are currently looking much better than they were a few weeks ago.
* The rc bugfix lists that Ajmitch created also need attending to, with
several grave bugfixes from Debian needing particular attention.
* There is also the FTBFS lists.
* And as usual, more bugfixing.
* It was suggested to tag universe bugs as packaging, to provide an easy
way for MOTU hopefuls to get involved. A universe bug sprint was also
proposed to tag such bugs, but no date was decided.
* Bug tags would be discussed on the ubuntu MOTU mailing list.

The date/time for the next meeting was defered till the MOTU council has its
first meeting.

If I've missed anything, or there are any questions, please feel free to ask
either Luke Yelavich (TheMuso, Daniel Holbach (dholbach), Andrew Mitchell
(ajmitch), or Stefan Potyra (sistpoty) for more information.
