Ok I've looked through the stats and I think we should block the i386
packages as you suggested. What do we need to do that?

Re: [ubuntu-mythtv] i386 EOL plans for Mythbuntu?

2016-07-12 Thread Thomas Mashos
Hello Brian,

We already don't ship ISOs for non-LTS releases, so I see this as 2
questions.

1) Whether we want to have an 32-bit ISO for 18.04
2) What to do regarding packages for 16.10.

Regarding #2, I'd like to wait and see what Ubuntu does for 16.10. I'd also
like to check if the MythTV smolt data contains information on if the CPUs
have 64-bit support.

For #1, the answer may be a little easier. I'm leaning toward dropping ISOs
completely pending my move to snap packaging. I've thought the concept of
snaps made the most sense for MythTV since they came about a few years ago.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to say "install snappy core, then install the
mythtv snap" although I understand it won't be quite that simple.

Re: [ubuntu-mythtv] Providing Mirror on a Linode

2015-01-11 Thread Thomas Mashos
Hello JD,

We will only add ISO mirrors to our scripts. Daily builds only reside
on PPAs. In order to be a mirror, we'll need to know a few things.

How much bandwidth can you provide in a month? Our scripts are basic
round robin scripts, so we can't guarantee that is all you would
receive in a month but it would be balanced among the others.

Where is the physical location of the server?

Would the server be able to respond to our CNAME we provide for it?

Would you be able to run a daily rsync command to sync the ISOs.

We'll need about 5GB of space for the mirrors (we actually need less,
but while we're in the process of updating ISOs it could balloon to
5GB)

Hi,

We do weighted round Robin. We will need to know how much traffic (in GB)
you can handle in a month and your country. You will also need to have a
daily rsync set up to sync the isos. Generally we need no more than 5GB of
disk space (usually much less)

 CHANGELOG (+add, =fix, -remove)
 config-ui.xml:
= Fix alignment of textedit area and adjoining button in the icon

= Up and down scroll arrows now appear in said grid.
+ In Channel Editor, zoom into selected channel's icon to avoid

 schedule-ui.xml:

= Shrink the Schedule Filter popup to eliminate empty space.

 settings-ui.xml:

version of MythTV or of Mythbuntu. I think that if a user installs a
particular version of Myth, and chooses the Mythbuntu theme, they should
expect the theme to look the same and not change until they update to, e.g.,
 0.26.

Obviously bug fixes are fine, and even minor additions such as adding the
metadata editor in Watch Recordings which was not previously there, but some
of the recent changes are bigger than that, or have been tried then later
reverted (such as the scrolling text). Some users may think that the
Mythbuntu theme devs are doing experiments in what should be a stable
 release.

Of course, experiments and big changes can take place in a dev version of
the theme, or for 0.26 or 0.27 until they are released as stable.

[ubuntu-mythtv] MythTV theme updates

2012-09-09 Thread Thomas Mashos
When using one of my frontends I noticed that recent changes weren't
showing up. This led me to find that while I committed changes to the
branch, I hadn't updated the themeinfo.xml file so the changes weren't
showing up in the theme downloader. If you have submitted changes to
me and haven't seem them come down yet, this was likely the reason
why. I just resolved this by pushing 26.8 and 25.24, which are now the
current versions of the Mythbuntu theme and should be available via
the theme downloader in the next 12 hours. I apologize for the
inconvenience.

In you are running 0.26, then version 26.8 of the theme contains an
extra file called recordings-ui.xml.nobanner. This has some large
changes that were submitted and that I'm planning on doing in the
theme (although still needs work at this point). If you'd like to test
this out, you'll need to rename the file to recordings-ui.xml (backup
the original first) and then exit and reenter the recordings screen
(you may need to restart the frontend)

[ubuntu-mythtv] Mythbuntu theme discussion information

2012-08-21 Thread Thomas Mashos
As most of you have probably noticed, there have been some recent
updates to the Mythbuntu theme in both 0.25 and 0.26. As I've recently
taken over developing the theme and been receiving patches from
people, I wanted to put a reminder out where things needed to go.

Bugs - Theme bugs can be discussed here, although I'd much rather have
the discussion in a bug report on Launchpad
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+filebug). One thing is for
certain, the bug will NOT get fixed without a Launchpad bug report, so
file a bug report.

New/Changed Functionality - Up to this point, I've applied all patches
locally, tested, and as long as it worked and I wasn't completely
against it I committed it to github. I'm going to start being a little
more picky in patch acceptance for new features/changed functionality.
If you submit a patch that changes functionality or adds new features,
it should probably be attached to a mailing list thread here. The
Mythbuntu team reserves the right to commit patches we see as a good
change with little or no discussion (eg. if we see a patch on the list
and it makes sense we'll probably just add it, no need for a bunch of
red tape)

Patches - It's easiest for me to take merge requests on github,
however I'll take patches here as well (or attached to bug reports on
Launchpad). A patch should only change 1 portion of the theme (eg.
changes to the OSD and video menus shouldn't be in the same patch). If
there is a good reason that multiple things are getting changed in a
single patch, I'll might accept it, but it should be a good reason.
Patches also need to come with some description of what was changed.
An example of a good way to list what is changing in a patch is below.

recordings-ui.xml
* Use brightness to clearly tell the user where current focus is.
* Related to the above, actually make the cursor work like a cursor!
No more leaving a copy behind in the left pane while browsing on the
right. (Brightness is used to still indicate the active entry in the
  unfocused pane.)
* Remove scrolling from category display (last holdout of the brief
scrolling experiment). Instead use multiline and a smaller font to
hopefully gracefully display categories no matter how (reasonably)
long they might be or what language they are in.

Thanks,

Thomas Mashos

[ubuntu-mythtv] Change Right/Left menu behavior?

2012-08-21 Thread Thomas Mashos
Per my previous email, I've added this for discussion (it was sent to
me in a private email).

I noticed after migrating to 0.25 (I tend to keep my MythTV setups
stable for long periods) from 0.24 that the Mythbuntu theme was
hardwired to interpret RIGHT as Menu and LEFT as escape, à la the way
all themes behaved pre-0.22.

Given that the great RIGHT/MENU controversy of 2009 is long past
us--with only one MENU button now needed and horizontal themes
common--I'd prefer to revert the theme to the 0.22-0.24 behavior of
having LEFT and RIGHT wrap and relying on the existing MENU and
ESCAPE bindings. Was there a reason for the change? Do you feel
strongly about it on eway or another?

Rather than hitting right to decend into the menus and left to ascend
back to the top, I believe themes generally require hitting OK to
decend and BACK to ascend in the menus. The default behavior for all
themes prior to 0.22 is what you see now in the Mythbuntu theme. This
default behavior had to change in 0.22 because in 0.22 themes are now
allowed to have horizontal menus (example
 http://www.mythtv.org/w/images/7/71/Terra_menu3.png). If you open the
theme chooser and download another theme (IIRC, steppes) you should
see this behavior of having to hit OK rather than RIGHT to decend into
 a menu.

 Thanks,

 Thomas Mashos

So the post was asking about changing the MythBuntu Theme to match the
 operation of a horizontal theme?

Why would that be needed? What functionality would be gained by doing that?

It seemed to be a post asking why a change was done when I read it, but
based on your description the MythBuntu Theme is the same as all themes were
 prior to 0.22, right?

I for one like it the way it is. I would have a lot of complaints in my
house if the right arrow suddenly didn't move the cursor over into the
episodes pane on the watch recordings screen. I understand the necessity of
a horizontal theme, but I don't understand why we would change one that does
 not necessitate that.

Not exactly. The post was about changing menu navigation to work like
all the other vertical themes, which currently use the default of
OK/ESCAPE rather than RIGHT/LEFT. Currently (AFAIK) we differ in how
navigation is handled in our theme (RIGHT/LEFT) from all other themes
out there (OK/ESCAPE).

Functionality wise I don't think we gain anything from doing it other
than consistency for people going from one vertical theme to another.
I'll let everyone else weigh in on their thoughts before I say which
way I prefer.

Thanks,

Thomas Mashos
