Maybe this will be helpful: https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Osd_subtitle.xml Looks like you can change the font to something else and it will ignore .srt settings with the osd_subtitle.xml file. Make sure it is using FreeMono instead of Droid Sans in places. Should make all your fonts monospaced. Had a similar problem with normal displays and texts so Check your TV settings (and playback) for the picture and ensure it is on normal not any form of zoom. If in doubt try 4:3 then 9:16.
