Ok. Maganda yan. Somebody needs to create a customized distro first tuned
to our needs(that includes several people like graphic designers and sys

If there is an application that needs to be translated to Cebuano or

I already tried to translate the "Ubuntu Software" center to Filipino

We can assign building/packaging/remastering of the distro to those
who are interested to remaster the distro like the ones who are
technnically savvy like Allan E. Registos
. And for the boot splash (boot
and logout/restart/shutdown), wallpaper, theme, icons, etc we can
assign them to artists. For those who are artists here, please
volunteer. For translation/documentation, we will just translate and
document on what is just included in the distro. For testing, we can
create the test cases based on the Help file. We will just create and
perform documentation-based testcases and everybody will perform
system testing. For the technically savvy, they can perform
integration testing for the distro (I do not know how to do this. Im
not tech savvy. Im just a normal user who points and click).

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] First Ubuntu Hour

2012-06-15 Thread Allan E. Registos
Translation is fine. Pero yong customized wallpapers, boot splash images, and
other customizations not related to translation, I believe is more of a
Mint-liked distribution rather than a pure translation of existing packages.
Siguro, pwede mag create ng Philippine specific repository para lang sa
customization specific to the Philippines.

We can remove all Server components sa Ubuntu base installation para mas lalong
liliit ang distro at kaunti na lang i-translate.
Ang mga Audio, video, graphics apps at Open Office ay pwede nang hindi
i-translate. Kahit yung web browser na lang at text editor ang i-translate muna
for a start.
So Ubuntu-ph translation team cannot make an independent Ububtu-based distro?
Wala rin kasing Philippine translation ang Bayanihan linux.

Ako hindi. Lalo ata akong nalilito. Lalo na sa google search kung naka Filipino
language. Btw, pwede siguro makakuha ng usage percentage in google who use
Filipino language in google search.

For Radio:

http://www.eradioportal.com/

For TV:
pinoy-ako.info

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] First Ubuntu Hour

2012-06-11 Thread claive alvin Acedilla
My pleasure also to know Efren and all of you here in the mailing list,
Efren, you can also post at the Ubuntu Forums Philippines at
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=303.
The forum is very active. Im sure many will join from the forum.
Also the Facebook and Google+ pages are very active too.
Regarding translation, maybe we can go for a lightweight Ubuntu distro
were it has lesser task to translate like Xubuntu or Lubuntu then we
will just add what packages are lacking the ubuntu lighweight distro.
Then we will just remaster or customize the distro like this in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization.
Then for the web browser will customize the browser where the
Bookmarks/Favorites are already preconfigured with websites that are
useful to Filipinos like:
For Weather, weather is very important to Filipinos:
http://www.goes.noaa.gov/sohemi/sohemiloops/vsmtsatw.html
http://www.typhoon2000.ph/
For Health:
http://www.philhealth.gov.ph/
Cooking website and farming website are useful too because many
Filipinos are malnourished and do not know how to cook and do not how
to find food.
For Environment:
For Technology:
etc:
So we will share all useful websites for Filipinos and configure them
on the browser

For more advocacy, we can give Ubuntu CDs to TESDA because TESDA has
computer training classes. To computer colleges and universities, like
STI, AMA
So share more Ubuntu CDs and campaign more

before I go.

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] First Ubuntu Hour

2012-06-09 Thread claive alvin Acedilla
If the Ubuntu base installation is a bigger task to translate maybe we can
make a lightweight distro where is lesser task to translate. A distro that
is aligned to Filipinos like we built/package the browser containing
bookmarks of websites that is useful and Filipinos frequently visit like
pinoy-ako.info, facebook, twitter, yahoo.com.ph, google maps,
openstreetmap, PAG-ASA website, PhilHealth Website, SSS website, etc.
Package a calendar that has the Philippine holidays. Also we will remove
all server features or leave server features untranslated, leave open
office untranslated, we will translate only the web broswer, gedit text
editor, calculator, bundled games etc. If we can remove more features in
System Administration and Preferences to make it more lightweight. I hope a
techie guy of Ubuntu Philippines can package a lightweight Ubuntu distro
for the Filipinos. I can also agree with Yolynne to finish first the
Tagalog translation.

No problem Efren,

I- layout nating ang process ng pag-join.
I-layout nating ang process ng pag-translate.
I-layout natin ang process of ng translation workflow.te
Pag na layout yung process ng translation workflow, malalaman na ng mga
team members kung ano ang mga function ng mga roles sa translation workflow.
Malaman na ng team members ang step-by-step ng translation workflow.
Kahit sino pwedeng mag-translate, mag-review, etc.
Kung gusto nila na isang role lang ang gaganapin nila, ok lang din.
Basta purpose natin is isalin natin para maintindihan sa ating salita.
Mas maganda rin pag isalin ginagamit ang mga "conversational" or "everyday"
words para mas madali intindihan.
Yes, lets focus sa Ubuntu desktop base installation
So i-lista na rin natin kung ano ang mga features at bundled apps ang
i-translate (like Applications Menu, System Menu, Preferences Menu, Ubuntu
Help, etc )
Sabay-sabay tayo magtrabaho at magtulungan sa mailing list, forum, irc,
facebook, google+, etc . Gawin nating workspace and mailing list, forum,
irc, facebook, google+, etc
Sa Filipino na lang siguro ako kasi nag represent na sa lahat nga languages
sa Pilipinas kasama na ang Tagalog.
To all, please help kung ano ang magagandang mga proceso para ma-translate
ang Ubuntu at magamit ang Ubuntu sa lahat ng Pilipino gaya ng pag-campaign.
Yung mga stickers ay magandang paraan din sa pag campaign.
Efren, I hope the first Ubuntu hour will go well.
So to all Ubuntu users in the Philippines, please help in brain storming sa
first Ubuntu hour at sa susunod ng mga araw

[Ubuntu-PH] First Ubuntu Hour

2012-06-08 Thread Efren D. Montales Jr.
@Claive, Nice to meet you and your big effort to get the translation
project back.
yup i believe localization is really a big task so we really need to
work harder like the 300 warriors of spartans. We don't need to
translate all apps, what's important are the OS, and Default apps. dun
muna tayo magfocus. :)

But before we get started
let's make our own documentation first as our short term goal, feel free
to add:

1.How to get started? how to join the team?
2.How and who will approve the suggested translation?
3.Who will review the suggested translation? (kailangan pa ba nating
kumunsulta sa surián ng Wikáng Pambansâ (National Language Institute)?
4.Tagalog or Filipino? alin ba sa dalawa ang dapat nating gamitin? i
believe we must decide to choose one para mas madali nating matapos ang
localization(kung Tagalog bakit? at kung Filipino Bakit?).

5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

@rick bahague, sa labas lang ng starbucks, ako nalang palatandaan hehe,
long hair nakalaptop ako ng may malaking sticker ng mozilla firefox, may

@rickhard wyrd, hanging out on G+? sounds good.. we can do it as our

@Erwin Olario, Thanks for the info, sorry pero late na masyado para
magchange pa ng event's venue sa fb, nagpost din ako sa fb group e. next

I think campaigning in Radio Stations is free and there is a Government TV

Re: [Ubuntu-PH] First Ubuntu Hour

2012-06-07 Thread claive alvin Acedilla
This is a very good start Efren!
The first Ubuntu hour for Ubuntu Philippines.
I hope many can attend.
Too bad im an OFW. But no worries so let us campaign more so that more will
join and more will help the translation.
We also need to campaign from Radio Stations and Television because Radio
and Television are more accessible to people and basic communication
channels where people can get information.
So let us go to the Radio stations and Television station to campaign.
I think campaigning in Radio Stations is free and there is a Government TV
channel and maybe it is free also.
We need also to campaign in the Government and Private businesses
Maybe we can at schools because schools are connected to the Government and
the Government will know about Linux and Private businesses will follow.
We will go to schools by posting campaigns their bulletin boards and
convince people that you will not keep reinstalling your operating system
if you install Linux because your operating system will be bogged down by
viruses like Windows.

Linus Trovalds asked for help in the internet for his operating system
hobby project before.
Look at Linux now.
Linux is "bayanihan" where everybody will just help. Maybe Linus Trovalds
is Filipino because he knows what is bayanihan.
So there is no harm to ask help.
Let us work together in the mailing list, forum, irc, meetings (like the
incoming Ubuntu hour on Saturday, 09 of June, 2012 at 17:00-19:00, i hope
many can attend)

Do you know that Google use Ubuntu.
Here is what Eduardo Bergavera edbergav...@gmail.co posted on his Google+
page:
http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2012/05/how-google-developers-use-ubuntu.html?m=1

Efren, if translating the Ubuntu base installation is a bigger task, maybe
we can make our own distro listing only the neccessary software that the
Filipinos need and remove some features on the Ubuntu base installation
that is not needed by the Filipino so that we will translate only the apps
that are most used by Filipinos like web browser, chatting software and
word processing. For games, most Filipinos are playing online games using
the web browser. This is just an idea to minimize the task in minimizing
the translation task of the Ubuntu base installation. Like Google above
from the link, the made their own distro by removing some features on the
base installation. We also try supporting the LTS version so that the
distro is more stable.

Efren, I hope the Ubuntu hour will be successful and all will enjoy the
meeting with food and drinks (juice and little beer :))

Cheers from me with a San Miguel beer on my hand!

Cheers to all Ubuntu users in the Philippines and all open source software
users in the Philippines!
