Hi,

And what's up with the indicator-datetime's translation bug? I hope you will
fix this before OTA-10. Because it would be really annoying.

[Ubuntu-phone] Dekko not showing To: and Cc:

2016-04-05 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

When I look at a concrete mail in Dekko (i.e. have opened it from the
list view), it looks like this

the subject the subject the subject
+--+ the sender's name
|xx|
+--+
the body the body the body the body
the body the body the body the body
the body the body the body the body

i.e. it is missing some crucial information about
1. the sender's mails addr
2. the To: and Cc: of the mail;

IMHO it should look like this:

the subject the subject the subject
+--+ From: Matthias Apitz
|xx| To: ubuntu-phone
+--+ Cc:
the body the body the body the body
the body the body the body the body
the body the body the body the body

Is this only because I do miss something in the configuration? If not
I will file a bug in LP. I'm receiving every day hundreds of mails from a
lot of technical mailing list I'm subscribed in and I often have to look
into the source of the mail to get an idea to which mailing list the
mail (with sometimes a nonsense Subject 'Help me') was sent.

Thanks

matthias

[Ubuntu-phone] Landing team 05.04.16

2016-04-05 Thread Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak
Hello everyone,

Things seem to look really good from the side of OTA-10 - looks like
tomorrow, as planned, we will be starting upgrade phasing around UTC
noon with all the users receiving the new images on Tuesday.

In the meantime OTA-11 preparations begin. We are still in the middle of
setting and consulting the release schedule, but with the new devices
out of our way the goal is to get back to the usual 6-week cadence that
we usually followed. But more news on that later this week.

Some of the landings arriving in the overlay today: a new qtbase,
lxc-android-config with some fixes to print-support,
ubuntu-system-settings fix for error reporting (for errors in
download-manager), location-service landing enabling dual-landing for
both vivid and xenial and a new telephony-service.
We expect more velocity soon.

If anyone is interested here is zip file with

merge

Then you can use owncloudcmd in phone's terminal.

If we somehow make syncing work we may create simple bash script and
upstart job to automatically sync certain directories from the phone

(tbh I already have these for rsync)

[Ubuntu-phone] Ubuntu SDK Docker Images

2016-04-05 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Hi,

I am wondering if anybody in the community uses Docker images for Ubuntu
Touch App development. I briefly searched online and it seems there are
some good docker images available for trusty at
https://hub.docker.com/r/phablet/ubuntu-sdk/. But before I begin to
investigate more, I am curious as to why others haven't tried it. It seems
intuitive enough to get it up and running on a ubuntu system. Is it worth
spending time on this?

If you have any experience with docker images, please do share. It might
also serve as good feedback for the SDK team who are currently working on
using LXC/LXD instead.

Cheers,
Nekhelesh

That's awesome! Great work Filip!!!

It might be able to be created as a click package for the open
(unconfined) store. I think there are other issues with file syncing
through app confinement that need to be worked out (will happen
eventually, not sure how it will implemented now). Could a simple gui be
created with html5 & javascript? Not across UI's myself either, but
excited to see which way this goes. Thanks for your work so far.

If anyone is interested here is zip file with owncloud-client-cmd and
needed libs. You just need to unzip it into your's phone HOME and merge
bin with your current ~/bin
http://people.rapidrage.com.pl/~filip/owncloud-1.7-armhf.zip
Then you can use owncloudcmd in phone's terminal.

If we somehow make syncing work we may create simple bash script and
upstart job to automatically sync certain directories from the phone
to oc.
(tbh I already have these for rsync)

Filip Dorosz.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Installing Android on MX4

2016-04-05 Thread Marco Graziotti

Hi,

I'm sorry, I gave you the wrong link, the right link for Meizu MX4
firmwares is:
http://www.androidiani.com/forum/meizu-mx4-mx4-pro/484612-raccolta-firmware-firmware-meizu-mx4.html
(you can find "A", and "I" firmware version, to download it, right click
on the link "QUI", and then copy and paste link address into your
browser. Don't click directly on "QUI" link).

I have two MX4 Ubuntu Edition. For work purposes, in one of these, I
have installed the "I" vesion of Flyme firmware.
For doing this, I followed a guide that for first ask me to install the
"A" version of Flyme, and then updating to "I" version. I will check to
give you the url of this guide.

I think that Meizu producing the same hardware version for all MX4
(eccept C version), the only difference is the firmware version.

Bye

Thanks for the more detailed info, that helps. I'm still a bit
confused though. Are the letters referring to hardware variants that
I can't change, or just firmware variants that I'm free to choose
from? If I choose the wrong firmware do I brick my device, or do I
just end up with a different set of pre-installed apps from what I was
expecting?

It sounds like you're saying that any MX4 that came out of the factory
with Ubuntu is an "I", regardless of whether it was sold in China or
elsewhere. So I've got an "I". It also sounds like that means I can
only flash it with Flyme "I". That would suck. Google Play is useless
here. I really need "A".

The linked page is in Italian but the firmwares are clearly labelled
"Meizu MX4 Pro", not "Meizu MX4". Are those firmwares really OK to
flash onto an MX4? Seems unlikely.

On 2016-04-05 15:43, Marco Graziotti wrote:

Hi,

there are four version of Meizu MX4:

1. Flyme U – China Unicom OS version: Chinese apps preinstalled, no
google play.
2. Flyme C – China Mobile OS version: TD-SCDMA version (different
kind of signal broadcasting), Chinese apps preinstalled, no google play.
3. Flyme A – Chinese Version OS: Chinese apps preinstalled, no google
play.
4. Flyme I/G – OS version for international devices selled from
meizumart.com and meizu.it: No chinese apps, Google Play is present.

Usually you can find "A" and "I" version. Out of China it's rare to
find "C" and "U" version.

MX4 Ubuntu Edition it's an "I" version.

So, you can have an "A" version of MX4 and switch the Flyme firmware
to "I" version. You can find both firmware ("Beta", "A" and "I"
version) here:
http://www.androidiani.com/forum/meizu-mx4-mx4-pro/484617-raccolta-firmware-firmware-meizu-mx4-pro.html
(to download firmware, click the right button on the link and then
copy and paste link address into your browser. Don't click directly
on the link).

Pay attention if you want proceed to flash your device.

Following that link it starts with the caveat that you need an "'A'
version of MX4". Can someone explain what this means? How many
different versions of the MX4 are there?

"About this phone" just reports "Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition".

I wanted to switch my phone to Android months ago but after reading
about it carefully, came to the conclusion that there are different
kinds of MX4 and mine wasn't compatible with most of these howtos.
It's a Chinese version, whereas most MX4s described on
English-language boards seem to have been produced later. Also
while I appreciate the efforts of "Naphtha", the instructions are
not quite detailed or precise enough to inspire confidence. It
seemed too risky so I gave up.

Please don't start a spamming campaign as a way to try and force
something to be implemented. It is not the right way to get features
implemented, or bugs fixed. All you will do is keep pushing other
threads of discussion, which may possibly be more important, out of
view for others.

If you want to help, then document what is missing and necessary for
such a feature to work, submit patches, etc…

Yeah. You can show me how you installed 1.8.1 on the phone.

You don't need crontab, you can setup upstart job in .config/upstart/
(file must end in .conf like .config/upstart/filesync.conf )

with the following content:
"
description "file sync"
start on started unity8-dash

exec /home/phablet/bin/file-sync.sh
"
You only need to adjust your script with infinite loop like this:

while[1]; do
*dosomething*
sleep 600
done

[Ubuntu-phone] owncloud-client-cmd on the phone

2016-04-05 Thread Filip Dorosz

Hi all.

I recently downloaded all dependencies needed by owncloud-client-cmd
1.7.0~beta1+really1.6.4+dfsg-1 from Vivid ports repository:
http://ports.ubuntu.com for armhf repository and stuffed in into local
dir and then adjusted LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include my new lib path.

And to my suprise... it worked! I've made some testing and unfortunately
been unable to sync ~/Pictures/test with my OC but at least I have
working client.

I get following error so if anyone join me can try to troubleshoot it

04-05 14:58:28:423 Database Drivers could not be loaded.
04-05 14:58:28:423 Database Drivers could not be loaded.
04-05 14:58:28:423 Database Drivers could not be loaded.
04-05 14:58:28:423 Database Drivers could not be loaded.
04-05 14:58:28:424 Database Drivers could not be loaded.
04-05 14:58:28:424 Bailing out, DB failure

If anyone is interested here is zip file with owncloud-client-cmd and
needed libs. You just need to unzip it into your's phone HOME and merge
bin with your current ~/bin

http://people.rapidrage.com.pl/~filip/owncloud-1.7-armhf.zip
Then you can use owncloudcmd in phone's terminal.

If we somehow make syncing work we may create simple bash script and
upstart job to automatically sync certain directories from the phone to oc.

(tbh I already have these for rsync)

Regards,
Filip Dorosz.

We reported this from BQ support because CalDav/CardDav through

Would be really great having a GUI to do this easily from our UP. As
Pat mentioned in the bug, now that we've got buteo shouldn't be code

Of course there is a bug report regarding only to Owncloud::

This is clearly important for customers :)

I agree. Do you think that we can create a system that allows

It could allow voting, which would move features to the top of
the list. Those who are able could then get an idea of things to

It would be reasonable to not expect everything on the list to

use the devices for.

I.e. I think a lot of things get lost in the mailing list.

If there's a bug on LP already reported, +1 it.
If there's not, open a new one :)

That way, it could at least be more obvious when a bug or feature is

informed decisions.

I think we'd all want to make a better use of the tool we already have.

Hello,

I'm used to do OpenVPN from my FreeBSD netbook to my company with the
following lines in vpnc.conf:

IPSec gateway 193.31.xxx.xxx
IPSec ID xxx
IPSec secret xxx
Xauth username xxx
Xauth password xxx
NAT Traversal Mode cisco-udp
No Detach

Will this work with the GUI for the VPN configuration? Or where is the
configuration stored in the file in OTA-10? Thanks

in system-settings under the language settings there is an option
"physical keyboard" showing up once a physical kbd is detected where you
can pick the layout for the external kbd.

The Libertine container shipping with the tablet ("Puritine") does not allow
you to install additional packages because
it's stored in read-only memory. That's not to say you can not manually tweak
things to create a new Libertine
container and install what you want; after all it's your hardware and you can
do what you want and we do this in testing
all the time, but out of the box you can not install arbitrary untested desktop
software yet. VNC has been tested and
it works.

Couldn't find the first bug in the link (is it private?). Added myself to the
second. Should we keep posting every week on this mailing list to remind people
about this bug, and to add themselves to it so this gets noticed?

Really Canonical - this is a major feature missing that needs to be
implemented. It should be clear from the interest on this list as well as
social media how many people want support for caldav and carddav. I'm sure
having a roadmap of when this happens will work for must people. Hearing
continually 'this feature isn't important because we've got Google' isn't
getting anywhere...

Hi all!

Julia, did you say bug? :P. Yeah, there is a bug report from long time
ago about it:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/barajas/+bug/1474671

We reported this from BQ support because CalDav/CardDav through owncloud
seems to be one of the most secure and out-of-Google-sight way to backup
and restore these kind of user information.

Would be really great having a GUI to do this easily from our UP. As Pat
mentioned in the bug, now that we've got buteo shouldn't be code
restrictions to do it, and I truly think that this kind of feature would
make very happy to many customers.

Of course there is a bug report regarding only to Owncloud::

https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1447291

This is clearly important for customers :)

Best regards,

Both these sync protocols are very widely used, and should be

I agree. Do you think that we can create a system that allows
community to submit feature requests and application development
for the mobile system? Then have it displayed as a list/queue.
It could allow voting, which would move features to the top of the
list. Those who are able could then get an idea of things to work on.
It would be reasonable to not expect everything on the list to be
implemented or picked up. But it would also give us the chance to
clearly express and track what people would like to use the
devices for.

I.e. I think a lot of things get lost in the mailing list.

connection isn't established. We've tracked this here [1].

I see it differently. If you're 100% happy with Android or iOS you probably
stick to that: it works for you and you already have it. Why spend time and
money on another device?
While I agree that maybe most of UP users are migrating *from* Android, I
also believe there's a reason for them to do so. Maybe they're looking for
more integration with their desktops, maybe they think google is evil,
maybe they're looking for something fresher, I'm sure there will be a
million reasons. And whlie google services might be a good starting point,
I get the impression that most of the UP clients (those who bought a
phone/tablet, I mean, not who received to work with it) would be happier
with google independent solutions (just *my* impression though).

That way, it could at least be more obvious when a bug or feature is
important for a lot of people. Of course it doesn't mean it WILL be solved
quickly, but at least it would provide information for more informed
decisions.

OTA10 is initial vpn support so it will be at least ota11 once the
issues they were having with it are solved.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] ubuntu one

2016-04-05 Thread Wayne Ward
If this was added it would make life a lot easier - i currently add a
url with a user / password for cal / cardav and it works great if
people had the place in the gui to add the url and user and password
this would solve a lot of people asking how to add this
and if the owncloudcmd was added to the system image this would save a
lot of questions and probably enable us to write a front end for it
easier than making RW or making a bin folder on home etc
it cloud consists of three packages and a couple of dependencies which
would take a 2 or 3 meg up so wouldnt make much difference to the 2 gig
space we have for the sysytem image
and im quite sure it will stop a lot of questions and ebnable somebody
to create the sync app a lot of us need, i broke out of using google
when i switched to ubuntu phone i dont want them harvesting my data so
if i couldnt have ubuntu one which should have been in place i went
with the only system which would do everything and would connect with a
bit of fidling which is alright for me, but im getting people asking me
how i did it weekly and they follow my scripts and how to and thank me,
wouldnt it be nice if they could just stick a few settings in and get
on with enjoying there new ubuntu touch phone

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Installing Android on MX4

2016-04-05 Thread ubuntu . mexon
Thanks for the more detailed info, that helps. I'm still a bit confused
though. Are the letters referring to hardware variants that I can't
change, or just firmware variants that I'm free to choose from? If I
choose the wrong firmware do I brick my device, or do I just end up with
a different set of pre-installed apps from what I was expecting?

2. Flyme C – China Mobile OS version: TD-SCDMA version (different kind
of signal broadcasting), Chinese apps preinstalled, no google play.

Don't click directly on
the link).

Pay attention if you want proceed to flash your device.

different versions of the MX4 are there?

"About this phone" just reports "Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition".

I wanted to switch my phone to Android months ago but after reading
about it carefully, came to the conclusion that there are different
kinds of MX4 and mine wasn't compatible with most of these howtos.
It's a Chinese version, whereas most MX4s described on
English-language boards seem to have been produced later. Also while
I appreciate the efforts of "Naphtha", the instructions are not quite
detailed or precise enough to inspire confidence. It seemed too
risky so I gave up.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Landing team 31.03.16

2016-04-05 Thread Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak
Hello Richard!

I just checked the indicator-datetime language pack and see Tomorrow as
translated in all possible places there, so at least it's not a problem
with the langpack itself. I would recommend filling in a bug against
indicator-datetime so that the developers can take a look what's wrong.

But there is certainly something wrong since I get the same issue with
the Polish locale.

We'll be chasing this down.

Cheers,

Thank you Łukasz, I confirm this is all fixed in the latest image.

Hello Oliver,

Could you (or someone who is using rc-proposed) explain how this change
between various keyboard layouts, QWERTY, QWERTZ, AQERTZ, ... will work
in the GUI? Thanks in advance.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Installing Android on MX4

2016-04-05 Thread Marco Graziotti

Hi,

there are four version of Meizu MX4:

1. Flyme U – China Unicom OS version: Chinese apps preinstalled, no
google play.
2. Flyme C – China Mobile OS version: TD-SCDMA version (different kind
of signal broadcasting), Chinese apps preinstalled, no google play.

3. Flyme A – Chinese Version OS: Chinese apps preinstalled, no google play.
4. Flyme I/G – OS version for international devices selled from
meizumart.com and meizu.it: No chinese apps, Google Play is present.

Usually you can find "A" and "I" version. Out of China it's rare to find
"C" and "U" version.

MX4 Ubuntu Edition it's an "I" version.

So, you can have an "A" version of MX4 and switch the Flyme firmware to
"I" version. You can find both firmware ("Beta", "A" and "I" version)
here:
http://www.androidiani.com/forum/meizu-mx4-mx4-pro/484617-raccolta-firmware-firmware-meizu-mx4-pro.html
(to download firmware, click the right button on the link and then copy
and paste link address into your browser. Don't click directly on the link).

Pay attention if you want proceed to flash your device.

Bye
