Only reason I use ssh/sftp is being too lazy to grab my phone and plug it into my laptop. That's way too much work! I use OwnCloud as primary now. No (or very rare) problems with USB port: flashing device, removing 3-5 GB of music, copying photos and ~5 GB of Music (>1000 files) to device and from device. MTP & ADB works normal. I've never had trouble with MTP, but if someone's determined to use SSH (a tried and true method!) and hunting for an SFTP client, it's time for a reminder that Ubuntu ships one with Nautilus. :) I'm not sure there *is* an alternative. Indeed, that sounds like an option. But I think many of the MTP issues are not the phone's fault, but MTP is in general known as a very fragile thing. At least in my experience, MTP never worked reliable, regardless of what device combination I used. I too use SFTP because MTP is unreliable. Yeah, I think it would be good if we find an alternative.I experience some issues with MTP as well and I think it is too limited.
