There is a good documentation at beginners and more powerful users at the
German community https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Ubuntu_Touch and could be in
for you relevant infos adopted to the English pages but there was no answer
to this question in the forum from the doc team. This was about a year ago
and a Google translater availlable. So what's the current status - somebody
want to take infos from there or are there (free) licence conflicts?

Greetings, Benno-007 (from German doc but no team member, only good work
together)

The CC-BY-NC-SA 2.5 license used on wiki.ubuntuusers.de is a non-Free

Because the German Ubuntu wiki forbids its reuse in this manner, this
documentation MUST NOT be used as a basis for English documentation on
the Ubuntu wiki through translation.

Agreed, there is a real need for end-user documentation. The PDF guides

[Ubuntu-phone] Landing team 07.06.16

2016-06-07 Thread Lukasz Zemczak
Hello everyone,

OTA-12 landing velocity still rather low, with only a new bugfix
release of ubuntu-ui-toolkit and a cherry-pick crasher fix for lxc.
Our developers are currently busy with either pending features such as
the fingerprint reader or helping out in our xenial-targeted
initiative. Since we have reverted the 'lxc revert' from the
xenial-overlay, currently our staging images are once again unbootable
- but hopefully this week we should get some progress on getting the
android container working again (with the new lxc). But well, that's
xenial-related so more of a thing for the future.

Let's see how many of the planned OTA-12 goodies will be landed by
final freeze. Hope everyone remembers that the string freeze is next
week already.

Cheers.

Are you sure about that? For me, the setting sticks, but even when it
is set to the front camera, it continues to use the rear camera. I
can't get it to use the front camera at all.

I don't think it's the same problem, but I recently stumbled on two
pages where I wanted to log in but the keyboard wouldn't appear. One was
where I used GOG Connect and it redirected me to Steam to link the
accounts (I can't get the address as the accounts are now linked and the
page doesn't appear) - the Steam page had the username/password fields,
the cursor was blinking and I could tap on either field to put the
cursor there, but the keyboard wouldn't slide out.

The other site with the exact same symptoms is the login page of a
Polish bank at https://inteligo.pl/secure . I just checked this one
again and once the keyboard did slide out, but when I closed the page
and opened it again it once more wouldn't work.

Is this something that is known, or should I file a new bug?

Thanks,

And while talking about the clock-app: In the past (before OTA-10, don't
remember exactly with which version this feature disappeared), the clock
showed in the bottom an information about "next alarm in nn hours".
Since some version this has changed. Now the new "feature" in this place
is only a small button to pull the alarm settings window on the screen.

Why is this UX change?

And while talking about the clock-app: In the past (before OTA-10, don't
remember exactly with which version this feature disappeared), the clock
showed in the bottom an information about "next alarm in nn hours".
Since some version this has changed. Now the new "feature" in this place
is only a small button to pull the alarm settings window on the screen.

Why is this UX change?

i've read a few articles that indicate 'you won't even know it changed'

however, i've not actually done the change (although I plan to based on

it feels to me like a much better fit for the ubuntu project (nextcloud)

I sligthly disagree. I'm using the alarm in my BQ E4.5 since one year on
five mornings a week, and until OTA-11 it was never the case that the
clock-app stayed open after alarm cancel. This is clearly a regression and I'm
asking if for normal (existing) functionality is some standard
anti-regression testing in place, i.e. tests to ensure that everything
else apart of new features does work as before?

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Video chat app

2016-06-07 Thread Alan Bell
well I am fine with the calling app not being Skype or anything
currently recognised as a mainstream branded software as a service
proprietary thing. If webrtc works then lots of things like talky.io
start working and people can host their own standards compliant server
or do interesting peer to peer things, and they all work cross platform
for free because standards. I have zero interest in learning QML and
targetting just this platform, but I am totally interested in doing cool
things that work great on Ubuntu touch first and also other platforms.
What I really want is Firefox OS, but on chromium rather than gecko!

I notice something similar since OTA-11:
- phone is locked and suspended
- clock alarm arrives
- one marks OK to silence the alarm
- when you later un-lock the device, the clock-app is still active

IMHO this is a bug or a regression.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Video chat app

2016-06-07 Thread Alan Bell
it is a bizarrely long standing issue, not only is it quite hard to flip
to the front camera (you can, it is buried in the privacy area of the
browser settings and doesn't stick so you have to keep doing it) but
more than that, the front camera is just inverted on the main production
phone that everyone has https://bugs.launchpad.net/oxide/+bug/1567542

both of these issues are targetted for OTA12, but I am still a bit
puzzled that working end to end video calling using webrtc wasn't a
launch feature or one that they want to get any PR attention from - it
is so tantalizingly close to working and has been from day 1.

Hi Matthias,

as the question on AskUbuntu was closed, I moved the info over here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothDevices

I took the info from the question to start populating the wiki page, you
may now add yours as well :) (and restructure if you want to, but I would
also keep an easy to be read list)

[Ubuntu-phone] Dekko && *very* long text body

2016-06-07 Thread Matthias Apitz

Hello,

Sometimes it happens that on opening a mail with Dekko I was thinking
that Dekko has frozen, but it has not. The problem occurs when the mail
has a *very* long body to render. Note, I'm not talking about attachments,
but plain text body. The today morning case was one with 22.000 lines of
body someone sent to me (and you can imagine, what I do think about such
senders). In any case, why is Dekko freezing? Will it try to render the
full body at once? It should only render some part to present it, I
think.

Thanks

Hi Wayne,

I'm not sure X11 apps can exploit hw accelerated codecs yet, so not sure
how a videocalling app would work on that.
Although I heard WebRTC based services should work quite well.
What do you mean by "the camera won't rotate" ? Would you mind filing a bug
against oxide so that the developers can investigate your usecase?

Was thinking if I use facebook video through firefox will that have access

It does depend on what channel you install from, but the Nexus 4 is a
developer reference device, and therefore the default channel does not
include a lot of extra software and features. This allows you to set
them up for your own development needs.

For retail devices, each vendor chooses a list of software to come
preinstalled to give a better experience to the end user who is not an
Ubuntu developer.

The scope today no included day info.

This frustrates me too, but the last I heard, Canonical cannot ship the
Day scope in the store and has no interest in doing so.

I installed libertine scope.

This will show applications installed in a Libertine container, if any.
However, the stable/bq-aquaris.en channel's images do not include
libertine--this will be added in a couple of months now that the feature
has launched and stabilized.

Why install x-11 aplications?

The only reason to install an X11 application is because you want to run
one on your Nexus 4.
