You can sort by ApplicationId in alphabetical order to find where the
app is in the list in system-settings. You can also check if there is
a matching desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/ or
/usr/share/applications/

If there is a record in the trust db but no desktop file, the app has
very likely been removed from the system and the record can be safely
deleted from the db.

But as Victor said in another reply, it seems OSMTouch is the blank line.

[Ubuntu-phone] Ubuntu Disk Phone :)

2016-07-29 Thread Николай Шатохин
Hi

I want to make 1st April joke. And make old school disk phone with my
Ubuntu Aquaris inside (that will provide all phone functions). You must
hear zoom sound when you take a handset and you enter number by disk and
can speak with somebody. Or somebody can phone you on this device.

So, is it possible? Can I connect external device to phone using USB?

Since you were working with some media related things here in your audio
roles app, would you be interested in helping out with the media stack at
all? We have plenty of bugs and fun features that we'd still like to
implement and can definitely use more developers to implement these things.
You'd be making very user visible enhancements to the platform by helping
out with the media stack. We even have a specific bug to look at directly
having to do with audio roles that you might be interested in [1]. If
you're interested in looking into that let me know and I can help you get
started. A great place to get some live help, particularly during the work
week, is on IRC on freenode in the #ubuntu-media channel. Thanks again for
offering to help and we'll do our best to help get you contributing in an
area that gets you really excited.

[Ubuntu-phone] [Development] How can I help? + Volume Roles app

2016-07-29 Thread Devid Antonio Filoni
Hi guys,

this is my first message on an Ubuntu mailing list after years so I would
like to spend few words for my apologies: I was an active Ubuntu
contributor many years ago (MOTU, SRU, translations...) but due to personal
matters I was not able to "properly contribute" anymore, I also started to
work as web developer and my employment was horrible in a such way it
alienated me from the Internet world (not only Ubuntu). I'm really really
sorry this stopped me from being here around, I love(d) this community.
However, last year I got a job in a new company, fixed my internet
intolerance and so I would like to contribute again as I can! :)

I bought a secondhand Nexus 4 last month only to help development but I
liked Ubuntu Phone, so I'm a daily user. First I noticed an issue in the
microphone [1] and everyone in the bug report was asking for a way to
adjust microphone volume. Looking for that I found a post in this mailing
list [2] about volume roles and (also) the fact there is no way to know
device volume levels.
I decided to write a simple app to control speakers, mic and roles volume
levels in order to develop in C++ (like it), learn Qt/QML and find more
about ubuntu-sdk and phone system. I'm sharing the code I wrote in last two
weeks, it is almost ready and the app works fine. I won't publish the app
in the store because I don't know if you'll approve its usage and, as it
uses DBus services which are not handled by apparmor policy, the app is
unconfined. I also think this app should be used only by experienced users
(for example: I still don't understand some roles purpose only by their
name but my english is not really good as you can notice in this email too,
so maybe it's just me) and usually they're able to build a source code ;)
Everyone can fork it, I think it's a good learning project. Please tell
(you can also insult) me if I did something wrong in the code, any
suggestion is welcome, sharing is good for humanity knowledge :)
Code: [3]
Screens (imgurl album): [4]
What's missing: app doesn't intercept roles volume change from other apps,
I don't know which apps change roles volume. I'll try using terminal.

Now the real question:
How can I help Ubuntu Phone development? I would like to focus on "backend"
stuff such as libhybris, aosp, aethercast (I don't have a WifiTV :( ) and
so on but I really don't know where to start from, I don't even know
installed core libraries, actually IMHO wiki is not very updated/useful in
this (it's app-oriented). Is there any
important/asked-many-times/low-priority-due-to-resources bug open I can
work on and involves core-developing? If it is difficult don't worry, I
like to get my hands dirty on code, if it's really difficult I'll tell you
I'm not able to work on it but please take a look at my code before
pointing me to an issue/wishlist, I'm sure I'm not a real C++ developer
(missing exp) but I'm not sure I'm not a bad C++ developer :D and I don't
want you to lose your time reviewing bad/useless merge requests, I can help
in other ways (translations, etc...)

Thank you!
Devid

[Ubuntu-phone] Thanks for the great work!

2016-07-29 Thread Radics Geza
Hi,

I've been using the system for a few month. But just today I've tried the
wireless display of Pro5 + OTA12 with XGimi led projector (with built in
miracast support)
If I put the phone right on the projector it is playing a film flawlessly!
It's really cool!
Love where it is heading to! I guess it's time for getting a bluetooth set..

Thanks and keep up with the hard work!

My guess is that is only for the MX6 which is an Android 6 device

I would call the missing data mobile indicator as a missing feature,
i.q. a regression.

Sounds indeed like a bug.

It seems to work fine here. I enable mobile data, and after several
seconds the indication appears on the indicator row.

The indicator should always be visible in the indicator row. This seems
like a crash of indicator-network.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Moving to Android 6 base

2016-07-29 Thread Rodney Dawes
I would suspect not, as all the currently supported devices don't have
Android 6 available, and aren't even on Android 5, though a couple are
Android 5 based rather than 4.

I don't think ubports devices are moving to 6 either, and IIRC,
mariogrip's goal there is get all the devices on 5.x for ubports.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Adblock for webbbrowser-app

2016-07-29 Thread linuxgehtned
We have an adblocker based on a system-wide blocklist in /etc/hosts file in
our German wiki where you can see the commands to get it working. There is
no download until now so you need to build the hosts file with tools from
apt-get inofficial on the phone or on a computer:

https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Ubuntu_Touch/Erweiterte_Konfiguration#Werbeblocker

If needed use google translate but NOT for reading the commands itself.

But an official solution should be better.

My 500 MB traffic volume works for one more week after normally only
maximal two weeks until speed limit after 500 MB.

I'll have a look at the bug, and continue the conversation there. But
no, I doubt that enabling rw mode can have any negative effects on the
location service.

Probably; the log files are now written under
/var/log/upstart/ubuntu-location-service.log

/home/phablet is not wiped during a reflash, unless you explicitly use
the --wipe or --bootstrap options of ubuntu-device-flash. If you don't
your data should be safe.

some logs attached, though I do not know what could I do more to troubleshoot it. I had some issues with OTA-10, maybe
enabling rw mode for debugging made it worse?

Also, /var/log/ubuntu-location-service* is missing, which is noted in location test plan wiki [2]. Is this because wiki
is out of date?

Maybe reflashing might help? Is there a way to reflash OTA-12 without losing
/home/phablet contents?

Thanks.

This would be great as this means wouldnt have to keep dekko open all

[Ubuntu-phone] RFC: proposal on account-polld and external plugins

2016-07-29 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Hi all!
I've been working on a document describing a proposal on how to change
account-polld (the background service taking care of GMail, Twitter and
other notifications) to allow click packages to extend it by providing
their own polling plugins.

One example of apps which would benefit from this is Dekko, which
already includes code to poll IMAP and POP3 accounts and that could be
made to run periodically to check for new e-mail.

Please feel free to comment:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1o-y3dUOm8voAzhZCpbPSg-zhRBweYHXn8voQDprZtsc/edit

I'm especially interested in hearing from the security team, if they
could have a quick review of the proposed changes.

Ciao,
  Alberto

Hi,
Ubuntu Browser does not support extensions yet, as far as I know. Try
asking oSoMon on IRC, he'll give you more details (and a more precise
answer!) :)

Hi Marcin,
If you can't find a similar bug just report a new one, and the developer
will mark it as duplicate if he's aware of any similar existing bug :)

Ubuntu default browser is based on chromium, so is it possible somehow
to install extensions such as Adblock? It is really needed, Internet is
ugly without it :)

[Ubuntu-phone] Moving to Android 6 base

2016-07-29 Thread Krzysztof Tataradziński
Hi,

I've read here

http://news.softpedia.com/news/ubuntu-touch-ota-13-update-to-rename-the-libertine-scope-to-desktop-apps-506743.shtml

that

"(...) but considering that Ubuntu Touch OTA-13 will finally move to
the Android 6.0 Marshmallow BSP (Board Support Package), it should
also support new devices."

so whole UT (for all supported devices) will move to Android 6.0 BSP?
Does that mean we can get wireless external support for i. e. MX4 or
E4.5?

Best regards,
Krzysztof Tataradziński

number one i have a cron that runs
sudo syncevolution --export /home/phablet/Documents/utcontacts.vcf

and also i have my documents added to the owncloud app to sync this
file to owncloud
plus i add the Pictures directory added to the owncloud sync
i also have recorder app installed and have the directory for that
added to owncloud
to have the above need a link form ./local/share to /home/phablet/

3 as number one you need to install open store app and install owncloud
from that (plus other goodies!)
4 just use from terminal
5 you can connect with cable and use adb shell as long as phones
unlocked or to ssh or connect Nautilus through ssh over network take a
look here

Hope this helps

Hey Michel!

Good thing that you reminded me about this! I actually planned to
update our update release notes to include framework version info but
in all this haste forgot about that completely. I updated some of the
top updates we have with framework versions.

I'll try to update the previous ones as well. Hope this will be somewhat useful.

It would be great to have a way do delete them, though.

You can find which application it is by searching the trust database
for location.

The db is /home/phablet/.local/share/UbuntuLocationService/trust.db
it's an sqlite3 database.

When you're connected to the device as phablet run something like
sqlite3 ~/.local/share/UbuntuLocationService/trust.db \
"select * from requests;"

And check which entries would match with the empty lines.

Hi, I've checked the db but I can't draw any conclusion because the

You can sort by ApplicationId in alphabetical order to find where the
app is in the list in system-settings. You can also check if there is a
matching desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/ or
/usr/share/applications/

If there is a record in the trust db but no desktop file, the app has
very likely been removed from the system and the record can be safely
deleted from the db.

But as Victor said in another reply, it seems OSMTouch is the blank line.
