Yes, maybe I didn't understand that we were talking about the phone only… But
the choice of words "no longer being developed" will be read by most people as
"the app is abandonned" when it's only a matter of packaging. If in the coming
months/years, Ubuntu were to stop building 32bits images and only go for 64bit,
would we read something like "Canonical is ditching Ubuntu"? I know it's not
exactly the same thing, but I hope you get my point.

Sorry if I assumed you did not read the article. As you may have seen in the
commentaries, many people didn't and stopped at the title. Why put a comment on
an article that you don't read… well, that's beyond me, but many people do. And
it has probably been a problem for Joey since he's closed comments and changed
the title (the new one is better IMHO). I hope people have been nicer to him
than last time, for his work is really important…

Anyway, sorry if you felt I was snapping at you!

Have a nice day!

I've had this several times, you have to hold down power until you are
convinced it will never start and keep going, eventually it boots.

Strangely, if I press and hold the power on button for around 20 (yes,

So maybe you've not pressed the power-on button for sufficient time

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] MX4-OTA14: No calendar in date time indicator

2017-01-27 Thread Paul Tait
Yes, it was very annoying until I worked out the simple fix. If you turn
the phone landscape then open the date time indicator again, it reappears.
Just close it again before tilting it back.

It took me ages to work that out. It seems to be being lost when the phone
changes orientation, or hidden for some reason. But tilting it back is
easier than rebooting.

Thanks a lot for this info! I've been looking for a working snap of

I wonder why this snap isn't being more promoted. Snaps are a great

have to know it's available first…

Anyway, great work on this!

How.and on which.device you installed it?

matthias

I only installed it on my laptop, with Ubuntu 16.10. I'm glad it works,
since I've found lately than following Ubuntu releases (16.10, 17.04…)
and not sticking to LTSs (16.04) is very disappointing if you want to
test new things. For example, the unity8-desktop snap only works on
16.04 as far as I know (and 17.04, the current version in development).
I understand the reason for that, but I feel like maybe it should have
been a little clearer. I remember when 16.10 came out there were several
articles on Ubuntu Insights telling you how you could test the latest
and greatest Unity8, but a few weeks after release, the latest and
greatest was only available for 16.04.

That's why I'm very glad to be able to test Dekko on my laptop! It has
greatly improved and seems to be more stable.

I configured several accounts, including a "standard" IMAP (the address
I'm writing from) and it works great. It took care of SMTP
automatically, meaning you only have to write your email address and
password and everything is configured.

Yes, this is most likely yet another instance of a website serving bad
content based on user-agent string. To work around the issue, I would
suggest you create a webapp for telesurtv.net, where you can specify a
UA override (see
https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/phone/web/ubuntu-webapps-guide/ for
details). This won’t make it work in the browser itself, but at least
it should allow you to watch the stream in an easy way.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] BQ E4.5 OTA-14: Dekko && account

2017-01-27 Thread Paul Tait
Every phone I've had since at least 2002 has managed it, be it through POP
or IMAP and notifications do work for Gmail, as well as the Open Store
version of Dekko - well sort of. They don't look as good and crash Dekko.
But they do notify.

So I'm not asking for the impossible. If Canonical had put some effort into
Dekko after ditching their own email app, it would probably have those
features already.

If you use IMAP to read your mail, how to you expect notifications? This
would mean, that Dekko would poll every now and then for new mail and
this would keep the device up and drain your battery. For me it is fully
ok, that I do check for mail, if I have time and I'm interested in
reading mails.

2017-01-27 Thread Paul Tait
It works OK. But notifications have never worked, which means manually
opening and checking your email each and every time. Added to which Dekko
crashes, a lot, which means it can't really be left open.

As someone else recently pointed out, it has also changed the way that
accounts are added, meaning you now have to do it in two parts and they
don't seem to be linked. It doesn't save drafts anymore either so if Dekko
crashes (as it does alot) or I close it to read another email I lose this
message completely.

Minor issues perhaps but exacerbated by the fact they'll never be fixed on
the phone.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Snap Images

2017-01-27 Thread Andreas Peer

Hi,

I happened to give the "staging" channel a try few days ago. It is based
on xenial, but I couldn't tell if the apps where snap or click. It looks
nice, though, with some nice UI improvements & features. However, as it
was really unstable (it didn't even accept keyboard input in the address
bar of the web browser, or in the password settings dialog), I switched
back to rc-proposed, soon.

Regards,
Andreas

any Ubuntu device except possibly the tablet.

I should have realized really, it hasn't been updated in nearly a year.

I think I may have misunderstood the question.

I gather you are referring to the snap device image for M10.

In that case, I do not know.

Everyone is eagerly awaiting any sort of update regarding the move to snaps.

Marcin.

There are a few snaps available on the Ubuntu Store.

I gather that they should be able to install on the M10.

Hi,

For this you can go in parameters. You then have a list of your
different accounts, and sliding them to the right reveals the delete
button (the same way you can delete emails). I haven't tried using the
button, though.

I have ny own BQ E4.5 since around April 2015; and I have since then
configured three different accounts in it, and all of them have in the
account the data/credentials for SMTP and IMAP, which I think is quite
normal.

I have some other E4.5 and a M10 and could never again configure it this
way. I always just copied over ~phablet/.config/dekko.dekkoproject

This time, in the BQ for my son, I did not wanted todo it this way,
because I wanted to show/train him, how it should be configured from
scratch, and because it is his credential and I do not want to copy over
my credentials.

Btw: How one could remove an account from the Dekko through its GUI?
