I assume you are flashing the m10 tablet correct if not then there is
no way to flash it to xenial it simply isn't supported.

Enable simlock on the sim you can lock it reboot the device but leave
it locked that effectively takes it off the network then from the
cellular indicator you can unlock it at will to re-enable it

Out of interest which terminal are you installing, The official
terminal is up loaded by the core developers, if you are trying to
install like gnome terminal or something from apt then no it won't work.

Apport is on the phone, you need to turn it on in system settings.

The terminal works fine but I guess it depends how you are trying to
bastardise your system with it that will make it work or not work for
you.

Oh and I installed it from the store when I read your mail to be sure.

Where did you submit your app too? What do you mean you submitted an
app untested, it is allowed you'll probably find it just didn't work
because your app failed the tests and so is in manual review? The
emails from the store should of told you that.

Alan your logic seems to be flawed, I get gps on google maps in the
browser, as do I in here maps web app and unav, so the issue is why you
don't. There is an old bug for location on mtk chips which basically
means the system doesn't know the status of the gps hardware a reboot
fixes that, but that only tend to happen on first boots after upgrades
or fresh flashes.

This might be the cause of some of your issues maybe.

This is an operator message you would need to turn it off on the
website for your account. The phone is not responsible for these it is
an operator feature.

Barry have you enabled developer mode? If so then unfortunately this
disables mtp currently. If you disable developer mode then mtp will

We have no control of the revision number it increases by 1 everytime
we add an image, if you open system-settings and goto the about section
there it should say ota 11.

Libertine fixes are in place you need to install the scope, keyboard
fix I believe is scheduled for the next ota not this one.

There was a small implementation bug which means it won't make ota10.

Version is a sequential number on the server we can not change that.
The tag that reads 9.1 will be under system settings about that should
be the bit that read 9.1

I have no idea what their system runs, but if it is using mtp we test
that on ubuntu/windows/Macos for every release.

If they are using a linux base in the kiosk then I assume it just does
recognise it not sure there is anything we can do about that, you may
have the same issue on android too though.

As for bluetooth hopefully moving forward that will be implemented with
the arrival of bluez 5 which couldn't be landed with the older version

This is enabled on the backend we are currently awaiting a new release
of the music app that will actually utilise this feature, however work
on the music app currently really go ahead properly till the back was
implemented.

Once the new music app is complete it will be tested and land and then

There was a landing yesterday that means only installed apps and scope
show accounts, I think this was a small oversight as the apps scope
isn't directly linked to u1 and nor is telegram, I'm speaking to the

Youtube viewing is handled by software not hardware so the device will
use more power and will get warm.

If you try a local video you should notice that this is handled by
hardware and does create the heat or use so much power.

There is a plan in the future to make oxide use the hardware encoder
too. But not sure when that will land.

Obex (data push and pull) is supported, however there are currently no
applications using it, After ota9 when we move to bluez5 there is a
much nicer api for obex which will hopefully mean that application can
make use of it and therefore send and receive from bluetooth. Till
then sorry it is not supported.

This worked fine before.

That might be that it is simply an image type that is not supported, if you
know the URL of the image you can file a bug.

If I am correct there is no way to track a previous state. So only the
Current state is tracked. You were asked to turn on wifi you did, so
the current state is on not off, so once the system is back out of
hotspot mode the system will default to wifi on as that is it's current
state.

The devs can possibly give you more info though.

It maybe that your car stereos are using a service that is only
supported by bluez5 this is not on the phone image yet but should
hopefully be in the wily time frame if all goes well.

For me My Skoda Superb connects an functions beautifully. If you can
file a bug with the specifics of your stereo it would be useful. Same

Umm No!
When a Phone rings general users just want to answer it, not leap
though hoops to do that. Any entry bar you raise above that of
android/ios limits the likelihood of adoption.

People are happy and used to sliding the slider to answer a call.

In that time you have to keep the screen active, unlocked and the app
in the foreground.

On here maps just set mode of transport to walking. This will the give
you an audio option. How accurate and reliable it is, is up for debate
but it will bark out orders you will need to keep the screen active and

Sudo does require either the pin or password that you use to unlock the
device.

You also need to unlock the terminal with you pin/password to access
anything outside of the terminal/home directory.

So should in theory work fine in most Skoda's/Vw's/Audi's/Seats and
what ever other car companies VW own :)

Gps was turned off during sleep and non-active apps (ie background apps)
due to the fact that it was a constant drain on the battery. This
improved battery considerably but makes things like this not work.
There is one solution which is to keep your screen on and the app
active then you will keep gps active. "powerd-cli display on" or
something along those lines. This will drain the battery considerably.
The other might be a fix in the rules that currently turn off gps so
that you can have it on all the time. Thomas Voss might be able to
help you with that. I have CC'd him in the email.

Did you look at OSMtouch it's a native app rather than just webapp I
think you can get basic routing on it and location is pretty reliable
once you have the first fix can take a tap or two to get it. That also
works as you expect with the mapping arrow staying static and the map
moving around it iirc too.

That wouldn't work, most commercial vendors won't know anything about
LP won't care about LP and certainly won't use it. The
homepage/contact url in the app details page should be sufficient plus
you can ultimately help by rating and reviewing any app you install

Hi so if you go to system-settings→security→sim pin you can unlock it
there leave it unlocked till the network bars show and then lock it
again.

This is just a temporary work around until the fix lands.

Make sure you have enabled developer mode on the phone. Without it
there is no adb access to the device which would explain why it was
failing

[Ubuntu-phone] Don't update to RTM build

2014-10-11 Thread Dave Morley
I updated my phone over ota this morning and am stuck on BQ logo with
no movement, no adb shell, and no way to recover without a pc. and a
fresh flash

I don't know if the image got screwed up or if a mesa package got
pulled in by mistake.

Anyway just a heads up

Confirmed in the latest images this is no longer an issue. I can
happily flip between calls.

This needs to be downgraded to "Issues not impacting user experience",
as discussed it is really random, it's hard to get a device into a
state to diagnose it. However, we still need to keep our eyes on it.
Next time a device is in the correct condition we will hammer it then
until the cause is known and the issue can be resolved.

After a lot of going back and forth. I finally have the issue again.
It looks to me to be some sort of memorised race condition if at any
time it happens once it will continue to happen then regardless.
However if after the second received call the ringer is still good it
seems to remain good. I will do some more digging on this tomorrow but
I have no idea on what logs might be useful, any help here would be
much appreciated :)

To clarify, before you would get the audio bell not going ping from time to
time, now
however it is the audio bell and visual notifications and the ability to reply.
This doesn't happen all the time but often enough to be very annoying. So it
is definitely a bug that needs some work.

[Ubuntu-phone] Quirks particular to manta (nexus 10)

2014-05-08 Thread Dave Morley

I have been testing Utopic R17 on manta and flo today and noticed a
bunch of issues that are particular Manta. These range from critical to
annoying and I will list them below. Some have bugs the others are to
follow.

Critical:
Oxide is unusable on Manta, there are serious issues when dragging to
explore the sites/feeds
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/webbrowser-app/+bug/1301380

Oxide rotation leaves you with random artefacts on the screen
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oxide/+bug/1317622

Changing background wallpapers crashes unity8
BUG:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1317619

Too many ways to open the welcome screen, you can tap on the empty
password to login, swipe from the left and swipe from the right and
click on the Ubuntu button
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1317624 bug is invalid this
is already in place on protected systems which is perfect.

Timeout on the screen is ridiculously short (possibly just because it
fades almost to black so quickly)
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1317626

Annoying:
Setting backdrops the setting app overlaps the content-hub window
meaning you have swipe the settings app out of the way in order to click
on the pick button.
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1317627

Camera app you play hunt the shutter button on rotation
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/camera-app/+bug/1317628

Even harder to take non-blurry images due to weight/size/vibration
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/camera-app/+bug/1289353

Swiping left to right to dismiss an application takes an age
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1317631

Music/video carousel icons are blurred due to size, they also take up
half the screen
BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity8/+bug/1317633

Design Discussion I guess:
Nothing obvious to say how to close a sidestage app, ie swiping from the
left of the screen like you do with full screen apps over swiping the
sidestage itself

With a 2 sidestage apps open and 2 main app there is no obvious way to
switch between them

The issue I came across is here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dialer-app/+bug/1316662

This isn't a blocker on the promotion of 13 as it is an improvement over
image 2. It will be whitelisted for the next promotion candidate that
contains the network manager fix. However after that it will be a
blocker. The issue is that the call the call back button hides the
incall dialogue in the dialer app, this means that the call can not be
ended, the call can not be merged, switched etc etc. The work around is
to close the dialer app and then reopen it and it opens to the in call

The reason I say feature request rather than bug fix is there is no
setting to change sensitivity and there is no lock function currently so
both of these features would need adding. Yes it is a bug that it is
sensitive but the bug is asking for features to be added that don't

I think this is triggering an apport bug hence the lag looking into this

Feature, not a bug as I understand it. You hit the expander to show

I think this is going away in the new iterations maybe anyway so doubt
it will be looked at until a time when its behaviour is reliable.

Can you confirm if your timezone is set in settings app correctly before
you set an alarm though showed correctly for me. IIRC the clock and TZ
nolonger sync I'll look into this and report a bug though.

This is by design so not a bug.

Media-hub no controls all audio this means that it will auto pause
playback between apps this again is by design. Need to try web apps and
see what happens there though.

Known issue it was on the release notes. There is an event loop
introduced from the move to Qt 5.2.1 this stops everything functioning
while the screen is blank, there is a fix on it's way but we needed to
do some work to get it in play on an image.

+1 on 303 it is the same as 302 + some updates to click apps which most

Sergio there is no such thing as a landing blocker. It was temporarily
whitelisted to get an image promoted and will likely have to go through
the process again. However there are more blockers that would need to
clear before this can be appraised again. This is not actually stalling
the images the other 5-8 are. As we already understand this is a really
low level bug.

However it is definitely an image blocker as it was a regression on the
r250 image it is just it was decided to add a temporary whitelist for it
as the rest of the image was so good. The images haven't been that good
since.

Potential for bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/webbrowser-app/+bug/1301341

This is still reproducible just click on the app with the oriental
characters on the red background. The whole description is just ?
highlighting the issue for our unicoded users in the orient. Bug is
already assigned and marked Critical.

Jamie this was white listed till the next promotion candidate. We would
have to do another QA day review to decide to promote another image with
this issue still in place. It was only a temporary whitelist to help
the devs land stuff and so we could start clearing down the decks as it
was going to be a non-trivial fix. This really needs to be fixed before
we consider releasing a new image along with the other promotion blockers.

Update: There is a big discussion on the mailing list for this bug it
looks like work is progressing slowly.

Unity8 is more stable in 269 I've only had one crash so far today.
However the device (mako) still doesn't feel as stable as it has in R250
for example.

I have confirmed that this is just on click itself by doing a a search
for "de" on the music scope the first returned item displays unicode.

YAY!!! I can't reproduce this now on 250 or 263 \o/ I wonder if the
gallery app fix had anything to do with it?

This Does not happen on R250 so is an issue possibly since the new
scopes landed.
