I would be developing for UP for a long time, if something like this would
exist.

I've already tried to install ubuntu-sdk on my system (I'm on kubuntu) but never
succeeded. It takes a lot of time to install/deinstall/reinstall the sdk and is
no fun at all.
First time I tried, I was on kubuntu 16.04. I came as far as having a working
IDE,
but the emulator just hung. After the upgrade to 16.10 I am really stuck.
ubuntu-sdk
crashes on startup, and qtcreator is gone. So not only it is not working, it
also messed
up my system. But hey, I have a Ubuntu Phone, so life is great!

Cheers,
Hans-Peter

PS: Where is the right place to ask for help fixing the sdk?

Hi Michael,

I've just subscribed to the bug and marked it as 'affects me too'.

I recognized, the status of the bug ls 'invalid'. Should it be like this?

If this is the case it narrows down to either the reliability of the UK
3G network or an issue with my handset. I do keep meaning to try using
unav on my tablet using my phone as a hotspot. I'll give that a go next
chance I get and see what happens.

I too maintain that the Dialer and Contacts app ought to either be one
and the same, or if not, enjoy close collaboration.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] is this a new calendar app (-version) ?

2016-03-08 Thread Hans-Peter Guggenbichler

Hi

of course everyone has their own idea of what is a critical bug. But the lack of holidays support

in a calendar app might be seen as a critical bug by many people (as I do).

Regarding the slick calendar app image, I think it is  cynical to pubish something like that,

when realization is not in sight and on the other hand the existing calendar app lacks basic functionality.

People who saw the image and decide to buy an ubuntu phone might consider this as fraud.

Hans-Peter

Everyone has their own idea of what a critical bug is. Sorry to say
but syncing multiple calendars isn't critical. Examples of things on a
phone which people might consider critical:-

* Things which cause user data to be deleted
* Bugs which mean customers can't boot the phone
* Inability to answer/make phone calls

..and so on.

Multiple calendars is a feature enhancement. We're currently using
Evolution for our calendar syncing back-end, and this has never
supported multi-calendar Google sync. It's new work that someone needs
to do to make happen. With all the other things, this just took a
slightly lower priority. It's on the list and will get done though. We
have a small team working on this though, don't feel like we don't
want to fix it.

There is interest, just lack of resource.

[Ubuntu-phone] gmail notifications

2016-02-28 Thread Hans-Peter
Hi to All

I don't get notifications if new mail arrives in my gmail mailbox. I'm pretty
sure, I got them when the phone was new (around OTA7).
gmail is still enabled in system settings/notifications.
Is this something I messed up or is this a know issue?

[Ubuntu-phone] music app drains battery since OTA-8

2015-11-30 Thread Hans-Peter
I just filed a bug report on launchpad, because music app drains battery, even
if it is inactive.
This is the bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dialer-app/+bug/1521106

I was not able to file the bug against package music-app, even if this was
listed in the choose dialogue. When submitting the bug report, I got an error:
Invalid package. I chose "I don't know' then. Now the bug is filed against
dialer-app ?? It would be great if someone could assign this to the correct
package.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Great improvements with OTA-8

2015-11-23 Thread Hans-Peter
I'd absolutely like to second that. Many thanks to all the guys and gals who
put this together.

However, there is one thing I recognized with OTA-8:
This is when you select a favourite contact from the today scope.
The image shown is scaled to the width of the screen. This is fine if the
image is in landscape mode, but when the image is in portrait mode, the
buttons get pushed out of the screen. You have to scroll down to access
them (that is on a 4.5 bq aquaris).

Cheers!
