Re: [Ubuntu-phone] [libertine] install package in container fails with permission denied

2016-11-06 Thread Wayne Ward

This might help

libertine-container-manager create -i puritine2 -n “Puritine 2” -t chroot
-d vivid –force

libertine-container-manager install-package -i puritine2 -p remmina

Might not need the force part now!

How can I install a package in the container? Or can anyone suggest a

I tried to start bash in the container:

What should I set DISPLAY to?

Note, I have a writeable image and keep the device up to date (to
rc-proposed) this way:
sudo touch /userdata/.writable_image # reboot
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ci-train-ppa-service/stable-phone-overlay
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Thanks for any help in advance,

That bug mentions WebRTC not working, but it does, try it on hubl.in.
The issue is specifically with jit.si. This is why I registered a bug
here:
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/issues/680

That is why I registered a meet.jit.si specific bug. See my previous email

[Ubuntu-phone] Rocket chat

2016-10-16 Thread Wayne Ward
Love the simplicity of rocket chat snap, we did some chat, transferred
files and tested video calls great.
But tried on ubuntu touch and get no video in browser so tested on Firefox
on the m10 ans still no video..
Anybody know a work around to get this working.. This eliminates skype and
all the other video type apps, this fills the gap..
Imagine this on ubuntu touch with notifications and video and calls!?
Would be amazing

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] OTA-13 - Notificationsmail

2016-09-23 Thread Wayne Ward

I have notifications from the following:

facebook
twitter
google
dekko emails

text messgages
telegram
phone calls
sd card (turned off works now!)
calendar
notes (only on one device when add a note unless i open notes on other
device)

few things to do this the problems are with telegram and facebook all the
others are fine i setup a google account and basically added that email
address to facebook as well as the one i use for logging in then i can
still log in as standard but the emails get sent to the google account and
i get all the facebook notifications perfect - not native but it works.
Telegram i pin to the sidebar and open it and leave it open thn i get them
mostly all of the time! last of all dekko i have to install openstore and
run the unconfined version then i open tweakgeek and run this unconfined
and leave it open and get emai lnotifications all day as long as dekko
doent crash! this is fully tested as i have a pebbble and im connected to
it and get the notifications all day to my watch! :)
Also use open store for rockwork for pebble to connect if thats of any
interest.

thats not bad id say, that was my main goal as i had all this working on my
droid with my lgr watch

As I understand Firefox allows this through the file userContent.css, I
believe Chromium has Custom.css...

Any experience on this?

If the device doesn't work over USB 2.0, there is likely some other
driver missing for that specific device, rather than the generic XHCI
support, since your tablet doesn't support USB 2.0. There are many
peripheral devices such as your DVD drive, for which drivers not
enabled in the Android kernels which are used for phone/tablet images.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Accessing SSH (on Raspbery) from Ubuntu Phone

2016-09-19 Thread Wayne Ward
If you install terminal then open store and tweakgeek then go into
tweakgeek and look for terminal turn of app susend that will give you ssh
without suspend

For vnc you will have to install libertine and the remmina which will give
you vnc or rdp connections here is a small tutorial

As far as SSH goes, you're overthinking it! :)

You have a full Linux computer with GNU userspace in your hand. Open
the terminal and use the program 'ssh' just as you would on any other
Ubuntu machine.

Do note that if you let the screen turn off or switch away to a
different task, the terminal will suspend and your SSH session may time
out (so byobu/tmux/screen on the RPi is a really good idea).

As for VNC, there's no native app, so you may have to use
libertine-container-manager to create a chroot container and install a
VNC client. But you're going to want a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to
use your VNC client.

Hello,

The pictures I take with the cam of the BQ E4.5 are mostly out of focus
and unsharp. For sure, it's my fault too, but in parts a general problem
as well. To take the picture, one must hit the point on the screen and
even if you take care, this hit moves the cam a bit in the moment of
taking the picture. Normal cams (even the old mechanically one) have the
movement of some button from top to down and one can put a contra force
from below (or even use something like a mechanically cable to issue the
button).

How you others are doing this to get sharp pictures?

if you update calendar to the latest version then you get account ownclud
plugin this will allow you to sync calendars

also if you install the open store package this has a front end for syncing
files

the only thing it doesnt do yet is the contacts which i heard is being

Uhh, what? Last I heard, this was not implemented. In fact, the
ownCloud account doesn't even appear in the accounts list, unless you
have an app installed which can use it, as the account would do nothing
on its own. Do you have an app which performs calendar sync for
ownCloud?

[Ubuntu-phone] cups

2016-09-12 Thread Wayne Ward
ive managed to get cups printing support working on my tablet making it RW
and using cups manager in libertine container added a brother 7440n but
that printer isnt listed so tried generic raw, it prints but spits out
loads of blank pages if i want to add the drivers on my desktop i have to
run a script which installs deb files for the driver how is this possible
on the tablet as im sure the main cups server which will install the
drivers would be in the tablet side not libertine side would i have to
extract the debs and recreate them as arm debs ? im nearly there with
printing from libertine apps which is very handy!!

Also does anybody know about my last question?
is the UT image kernel have included scsi - cdwriter support built in and
if not will it have it or is there a way to do this?

it can see external drives when i plug them in like sd cards etc but can
detect the dvd writer as im sure its not built in to the kernel?...

[Ubuntu-phone] Cd support

2016-09-10 Thread Wayne Ward
I've just got a new cdrom for my tablet and put it in RW and installed
wodim but no scsi support :(
Is there no scsi support installed in UT and if not I'm sure it has to
compiled into the kernel so not something that can be done by the user. Is
there plans for cdsupport, Ive tried on my nexus 7 and that works fine..
I.use the tablet for my job which involves sometimes writing a CD / DVD so
need the facility really
Is there a way round this..

Also is there any plans for printing support? I was thinking if I installed
cupsd and the cups manager on libertine id be able to configure printers
and print from the libertine apps.. Has anybody tried this...

[Ubuntu-phone] libertine chroots

2016-08-22 Thread Wayne Ward
Ive just got lifeograph running on my BQHD5 and installed on my tablet
so have the journal back working again
im syncing the database with owncloud and all is great, bit small on
the HD5 but useable :)

the version its installed in my chroot is 1.2.1 on both devices
i guess thats because i setup with a vivid chroot
 i used
libertine-container-manager create --id vivid --type chroot --name
'Libertine Demo'

how can i get the lifeogrpah to 1.3.0 so i can then edit it with my
laptop and desktop, they are on xenial and install the latest version

do i have to use xenial chroot and if so how?

ive tried installing 1.2.1 on the laptop but it wont do it ...

i can settle for the phone and tablet for now if this cant be done
just nice to be using the journal again, very greatful to libertine and
owncloud :)

[Ubuntu-phone] bluetooth bug or not?

2016-08-19 Thread Wayne Ward
I have my web app installed which i control my emby server from, play music
etc - id use the standard music player but it doesnt scrobble to last.fm
Any way i have suspend turned off so the app will carry on playing music
when the screens closed which is does nicely
But when i connect to a bluetooth device IE in the shower or in the car
were my bluetooth speakers are when the screen closes it works fine but
when the screen goes to full sleep IE black the music stos playing, if i
hit the power button and the screen comes to life it immediatly starts
playing - i know i can use the active screen app which works fine but will
suck loads of battery.
I can write my own web app for this if required is there something i can
put into the webapp to stop the bluetooth sleeping when the screen is
closed ?

also is there a find feature going to be implemented into the web browser -
ive switched to this browser now as it seems to work fine most of the time
apart from repatcha not supported and on ebay.co.uk i get this now ( inever
used to)
The eBay mobile website is no longer supported on this device. Access all
your eBay activity from your desktop or a supported Apple, Android or
Blackberry mobile device.

The find in page function is really needed when im using the tablet in
convergence mode, id rather use this browser than firefox as its lighter
and now i have the browser-app folder syncing with nextcloud so have synced
bookmars etc!!
Also can any one tell me if they are going to implement password saving on
login forms IE logging into a zoneminder it wont rememember the user
password you have to put it in everytime.

on a good note the owncloud calendar sync works perfect thank you so much
and the tablet and phone on proposed are just worlds apart from when i
first got the phone absolutly flying around now and runnning perfect!!

number one i have a cron that runs
sudo syncevolution --export /home/phablet/Documents/utcontacts.vcf
backend=evolution-contacts database=Personal
and also i have my documents added to the owncloud app to sync this
file to owncloud
plus i add the Pictures directory added to the owncloud sync
i also have recorder app installed and have the directory for that
added to owncloud
to have the above need a link form ./local/share to /home/phablet/
then i just select recorder app directory
the sms and phone logs just need directory for them and add them
2 no ide
3 as number one you need to install open store app and install owncloud
from that (plus other goodies!)
4 just use from terminal
5 you can connect with cable and use adb shell as long as phones
unlocked or to ssh or connect Nautilus through ssh over network take a
look here

Hope this helps

I use the other twitter web app feom the store to get rid of the yellow bar
about the browser and the ugly look, fair does at least it looks nice and
more how it should be butits not intergrated to the system and if you click
links it opens the browser and you cant pick files from the camera the list
goes on
I'm just under the impression who ever is looking after the stock twitter
app doesn't use twitter its putting me off using it, its that bad !!

Id look at open store
Install owncloud
Make a link to .local/share to /home/,phablet/apps

Then you can back which app you like and sync which app ypu like in the

Also there is a script that will add your contacts and calendar to owncloud
so they sync and backup :)

5. Ways to connect and use with a Ubuntu 16.04

For ssh see [1], then scp would also work (also rsync).
1. Backup utility for Personal Address Book, Camera Images,

You could write a shell script for that :)
For adressbook you could use syncevolution

Camera images are one the file system, in

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] screen shot / clipboard tool / screen capture

2016-07-26 Thread Wayne Ward
Sounds great fingers crossed
One question
Is there a difference between unity 8 on 16.04 to 16.10
i seen somebody using what looked like a more implemented version of
unity and using commands like ubuntu-app-launch to launch apps, were
mine doesnt do this on 16.04, well it does but they dont run
If i get it on 16.10 do i install unity 8 the same way as 16.04
sudo apt install unity8-desktop-session-mir
i also noticed stuff like clementine tied in to the drop down settings
box and apps running native, id like to be able to test on this
version
or was this a daily build do you think? not sure what to go for to get
this
...

This list is a good start. #ubuntu-unity on Freenode IRC is
also good for Unity 8, and there's also #ubuntu-libertine

for specific quesitons on Libertine.

Ive managed to get a full unity 8 system setup on my ubuntu
dell xps and its working very nice

just missing a few bits but nothing much.
one thing im eager to get running is libertine so i can bridge
the apps i need, i have it installed but when building
the container its failing on certificate creation, if i could
get this working i think i could use this full time!

I'd recommend you file bugs against the unity8-desktop-session
or libertine projects on Launchpad if you're having trouble.

ony one more niggle i noticed is the address book and calendar
work but ive installed syncevolution and run my script i
used to sync with owncloud, i can see it sync but nothing
shows in the calendar or address book. Ive noticed in the
address book there is no option to pick another address book,
same applies for the calendar so i expect its missing a

package maybe?

Possibly. I'd have to let someone who knows more about those
specific apps answer, but you may end up needing to file
bugs against those individual packages as well, if it turns out
they're making invalid assumptions about where they're

running.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Voice call whit Skype (web) finnally work in Meizu MX4 - OTA-11

2016-07-22 Thread Wayne Ward
Im finding that everybody i talk to in spain has whatsapp when i want
to communicate with them but i can unless i get my hands on a android
pop my card in
setup the whatsapp application
log in
transfer the bar code into my ubuntu phone
then it works i think ?
i really need to get it working so just trying to get a lend of a
android to even try this
im pretty certain there is no way around this unless anybody knows any
different
i also tried to get video call ready to speak to the kids when in spain
but thats not working as well - there is a fix in place to put the
camera the right way round which has been implemented for BQ4.5 but not
HD5, but i read its getting done .. hopefully!
so at least we have a app that can video call while we wait for the
likes of skype which could be worth looking at using the ubuntu package
that works using libertine containers as a work around for now i guess?
but that wont cover the BQ phones as you would have to install
libertine yourself and not sure thats a good idea or not?..
so were pretty much cut of from video calls and the popular whatsapp im
sure its a blocker for lots of people specially in spain were everybody
seems to have it?!

Wayne :)

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Memory..

2016-07-21 Thread Wayne Ward
Good morning guys :)

funny thing with the low memory
i left my phone in my pocket open yesterday which screwed my mobile
settings - i ended up zapping it as couldnt get mobile data to work!
put everything back as normal
now i rockwork and owncloud sync installed
and like to have dekko running unconfined and music app waiting to play
and thats it, i usually battle to keep these to open ..
last night i had these open and can usually open only one social media
app IE facebook, if i want to go on google + i have to close facebook
other wise i get this reload when im scrolling down
last night i had the music / dekko and facebook and google + working
perfect it was like the phone had a new lease of life!

I thought about it this morning, the only thing thats different on this
phone than my usual setups is i dont have ssh enabled to the phone?
Can that make a difference or has there been some changes over the past
few days, i am on proposed

Many thanks for any questions

Wayne  :)

[Ubuntu-phone] Memory..

2016-07-15 Thread Wayne Ward
I'm looking at maybe getting rid of the e5 as the what I think is low
memory is driving me mad! I'm thinking this has one gig of ram and its not
enough? It used to be but now always seems to be low on memory.
I have a clean install with the following installed and obviously running
in background

Rockwork
Owncloud

Now i have dekko running unconfined for email notifications to pebble
And sometimes music appeared open all the time to play from pebble when I
want.

The problem is I get reload on facebook, browser, gmail or twitter and
dekko just closes itself when it feels like it. It only started doing this
since say ota10.

I noticed the meizu has 3 gig of ram. I'm just wondering if meizu users get
the same problem as they have more memory?
I really love my bqe5 but its getting annoying now to be honest. Don't want
to switch back to android, been here from the beggining, cant use unav as
that just white screens after 5 or 10 mins as well

In my mind more memory is required or am I wrong and all the phones do the
same.. I dont mind shelling on a new meizu as long as I get rid of this
nigly problem thats just stoping me enjoying the phone and OS I love and
got used to now ?

Is there maybe away to streamline the E5 phone like turn of a upatart app
any suggestions please its wearing thin now, specially after todays
proposed updated killed my phone and wiped it just to get the same reload
problem

I can video this and put it on my blog if anybody needs to see what I
mean...

Morning guys, this mornings update r379 on proposed on my Ubuntu E5
Does that have the powerD update in it ?
As when i lock my screen it seems snappier at unlocking and opening etc
but...
the back light stays on continuous.
Is there anything that might stop this i can try or is just a sake of
waiting till a fix - im sure it will kill the battery

I set up ubuntusocial.net because of this for a central location but never

One issue with UT that I do have is the lack of documentation / a central
hub for info. Info is scattered between here and askubuntu with no real
central source.

I get that it's a work in progress and I would be happy to contribute to
something but I think it does need some central easily discovered location.

I created a libertine container and added terminator and ssh, then just
launch that from the libertine scope. No
disconnects when switching, full functionality. If I had a bluetooth
keyboard with real MX Cherry Blue keys I could use
it for all my remote admin and development work.

On a phone you'll have an ARM processor, and as WINE doesn't emulate an
x86 CPU then this cannot work for Windows programs which are compiled
for x86.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] praises, broken packages and suggestions

2016-06-27 Thread Wayne Ward
The email software was dekko
select one of the images to view
offers various apps to open the image
tried with gallery numerous times never worked only one that did was
flickr uploader but could not see image to small
since then i have a fix
install image viewer this allows you to
select image in dekko from attachment
view the image
instantly with out having to wait for gallery which is hit and miss if
it imports.

therefore if the user selects dekko they should be offered extra
packages for making the use of the phone easier, if i would have known
about this without asking on here life would be a hell of a lot easier.
is it possible to add this into each app
select a app
app has extra package suggestions that might help this program for some
reason..
ie it would suggest
image viewer - to view attached pictures
document viewer - to view attached pdf or libre office files

so then i could ahhh yes i will need this ill install these aswell ?!

Regards
Wayne

look for "Image Viewer" from Michael Hall ... it doesnt copy anything

[Ubuntu-phone] praises, broken packages and suggestions

2016-06-26 Thread Wayne Ward
does anybody know if the cinema scope is still maintained
I submitted a bug a while ago and looks like the scope hasnt been
updated since jan 2015
the scope no longer show pictures in the the movie you select
shame as its a nice scope...

the standard canonical ebay which i updated and removed this morning,
even though i dont use it as its .com and i need UK so i made my own is
broke as well if you open it you get browser not supported.

also one thing i want to suggest is making just a standard photo viewer
that means you dont have to open gallery and wait 5 minutes to load and
import the photo, if it does...

also when are the developers going to update the twitter app? for one
its the old style and for another it has a yellow band indicating its
out of date? there is another twitter app that has all this but not
part of the system like the canonical version, why cant they make the
changes to the app - surely its just the URL its pointing to? now that
cant be that hard - i could even change it if i had a working sdk

i got ten pictures on a email from dekko and wasnt able to view them i
tried every was offered and none worked even gallery which as i say
takes ages to open, you just want to click on attached file and view it
straight away.
So i tried to look at the images through my webmail and the browser
wouldnt support the download link in the end ended up setting up my
nextcloud to have mail support and that worked!!
so a 20 / 30 minute job to just view some photos on e email which
should be a simple job really?.

design suggestion
also when we get owncloud / nextcloud support i see it will connect the
calendar and the contacts and we can carry on using the owncloud app
that thank the lord dan wood brought to us which was much needed, would
it be possible to add caldav support to canonical notes app and task
app? so at least the notes / task app gets to be more useful?

will music app ever get last.fm support?

would it be possible to add some photo filters to camera app? we all
miss instagram for this feature?...

last but not least is there any way of freeing up more memory for the
system i can only have 2 or 3 apps open and the phone still be useable
example
open dekko
open music
open browser - pages keep refreshing low on memory
open facebook / twitter or google plus - pages refresh low on memory
a phone restart can sometimes make it a bit better...

have to say that the fbmessenger is a tidy app though good work to the
developer for bringing facebook messages back to the mobile devices.

be nice to get some decent feedback for a change .

Regards
wayne :)

Try open store

I would like to try and delete all its settings and files and have it

Can somebody please point me in the right direction?

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] We have unleashed the LXD based SDK

2016-06-21 Thread Wayne Ward
all my projects show this in the sdk

bash: /usr/bin/webapp-container: No such file or directory
Application finished with exit code 127.

but the command is there ?

wayneward@shanghai:~$ /usr/bin/webapp-container
The application has been launched with no explicit or system provided
app id. An application id can be set by using the --app-id command line
parameter and setting it to a unique application specific value or
using the APP_ID environment variable.

any ideas...
