And while talking about the clock-app: In the past (before OTA-10, don't
remember exactly with which version this feature disappeared), the clock
showed in the bottom an information about "next alarm in nn hours".
Since some version this has changed. Now the new "feature" in this place
is only a small button to pull the alarm settings window on the screen.

Why is this UX change?

I sligthly disagree. I'm using the alarm in my BQ E4.5 since one year on
five mornings a week, and until OTA-11 it was never the case that the
clock-app stayed open after alarm cancel. This is clearly a regression and I'm
asking if for normal (existing) functionality is some standard
anti-regression testing in place, i.e. tests to ensure that everything
else apart of new features does work as before?

I notice something similar since OTA-11:
- phone is locked and suspended
- clock alarm arrives
- one marks OK to silence the alarm
- when you later un-lock the device, the clock-app is still active

IMHO this is a bug or a regression.

I use nexus 4 with rc-proposed.
I have been having this issue for some time on the BQ. It intrigues me
that a number of people today seem to have suggested it happened to them
this morning, as it did for me too.

Previously this has happened after an upgrade to the clock app and a few
times it has randomly occurred. I have 3 alarms set up to go off daily
and today the first alarm sounded but neither of the others did, making
me late for work.

Over the weekend I disabled these alarms and then re-enabled them last
night, this may be the cause of the issue. However since others are
stating it happened to them today too is there any external factor that
could affect all our alarms at the same time?

Hey,

This morning it happened to me too. I set up an alarm to 7am, when It was
ringing I clicked to the snooze button, then it rang only at 7:48am.

It happened to me two times that the alarm doesn't ring (which is quite
annoying), did this happen to anyone of you ?

I use nexus 4 with rc-proposed.

I agree this is must-have, alarm clock has to be reliable. The problem is,
when I was
discussing exactly this topic with some of my friends (not working for
Canonical), they
didn't seem to care about it. Some of them told me "if you want a reliable
alarm you
don't use a phone, you use a proper alarm". So, yeah...some people are not
used
to having a reliable alarm phone anymore, so they don't even expect that
feature
to be available, and this gives it a lower priority on roadmaps :(

(by the way, those are my own opinions)

Yes, I agree on this topic. While all the old phones I had were 100%
reliable as an alarm clock, I cannot completely trust any Ubuntu,
Android or iOS device to get the job done...

Here's some bugs I reported related to this:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/+bug/1420169
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1317860

While the reliability of Nokia phones probably could only be achieved by
adding a micro-system, just bootet in case the alarm should ring in a
low battery condition, fixes for the above two would probably get us
very close to a good solution I'd say.

[Ubuntu-phone] Alarm clock reliability

2015-07-25 Thread Marcin Xc
What I hate about smartphones :-) (yep, there we go again;- and miss from
old Nokia phones is the reliable alarm clock. I mean we could set it then kill
the battery so that the phone turned off but the alarm clock would ring and
wake us up. Are the smartphones only so smart while turned on? Is the whole
system so down after turning off that the alarm clock can't work any more?

Cheers

[Ubuntu-phone] Alarm any way to make it work ?

2013-10-23 Thread Martin Fasani
Trying to make the system Alarm work.
No chance to make it work!

The main problem is that the Save button at the bottom does not work.

Other than that it would be nice to have a way to repeat "Working days"
like Monday-Fridays.

Please get this basic thing fixed! I need to get up every morning.

I really like more and more the OS now I'm getting accustomed to it. The
only thing that makes me quite nervous is that tapping on screen is very
unresponsive on the browser, I will check and report what are the types of
not-responsive, mainly javascript enabled buttons work very bad. But I
dislike the fact of having anything clicable that does not do any action!

What we're currently missing is a scheduler (amongst other things). We
don't have a central service or API which can be used to wake up
applications at pre-determined times/dates. This clearly means the alarm
features of the Clock app will be non-functional at the moment.

We have a team already creating the clock core app, and we'd welcome
additional contributions to that and the other core apps:-

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-clock-app

As you may have seen the design team have posted a blog detailing the
Clock app patterns.

http://design.canonical.com/2013/03/app-patterns-applied-clock-key-journeys/

Core apps discussion happens over on a separate mailing list you'll find
here:-
