  CTA requires at least one more carrier can be searched and shown in

  So if we can fix #1 and #3, then we are good for CTA certification.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1607823] Re: Cellular connection drops out

2016-08-29 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Pat, thanks for the logs. I see something similar as in jibel's:
registration is suddenly dropped and then re-established after a few
seconds. Sequence is (1: registered, 0: non-registered, 2: searching):

08-25 21:31:13.108  2160  2169 D AT  : AT< +CREG: 1,"1B48","07EF7DA3",6,0,0
08-25 21:34:34.482  2160  2169 D AT  : AT< +CREG: 0,"","0FFF",0,0,0
08-25 21:34:34.489  2160  2169 D AT  : AT< +CREG: 2,"","0FFF",0,0,0
08-25 21:34:53.145  2160  2169 D AT  : AT< +CREG: 1,"1779","7DA3",3,0,0
08-25 21:35:06.616  2160  2169 D AT  : AT< +CREG: 1,"1B48","07EF7DA3",6,0,0

I checked that there are no suspicious AT commands triggered from our
side, so this looks like a modem firmware bug. There is a small chance
that we need to set some configuration to avoid this though.

Also, please try to reproduce the bug while this command is running:

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1607823] Re: Cellular connection drops out

2016-08-18 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@jibel, no, that is not happening, you are registered all the time. Some
of the lines you see there are not events, but answers to AT+CREG
commands.

Event:
< +CREG: 1,"0C94","07EE0015",2,0,0

Command and response:
> AT+CREG
< +CREG: 3,1,"0C94","07EE0015",2,0,0

As you see, it is pretty confusing, as the registration status is in one
case the first integer, and in the other case the second one. You can
ignore the responses to AT+CREG (remove the lines with the extra
integer) and just take the events to follow state. In your case:

D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 2
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 2,"","0FFF",0,0,0
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 3
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1,"0D16","0540FD27",2,0,0
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1,"0D16","05400015",2,0,0
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1,"0D16","0540FD27",2,0,0
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1,"0D16","0540FD27",2,0,0
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1,"0D16","05400015",2,0,0
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1,"0D16","0540FD27",2,0,0
D/AT ( 2124): AT< +CREG: 1,"0C94","07EE0015",2,0,0

so you start searching (2), for a moment you get access denied (3, maybe
while authenticating?), then you are registered (1) without further
changes.

Btw, you can add "-v threadtime" the the logcat command to get timing
information.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1607823] Re: Cellular connection drops out

2016-08-16 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@jibel, thanks for the logs. The sequence of registration events that I
see is:

D/AT  ( 2080): AT< +CREG: 1,"0C94","07EEF3DF",2,0,0
D/AT  ( 2080): AT< +CREG: 3,"0D16","0540FD26",2,0,0
D/AT  ( 2080): AT< +CREG: 1,"0D16","0540FD27",2,0,0

Apparently the phone tries to register to cell 0540FD26 and it gets
registration denied (state=3). It recovers then registration (state=1)
after moving to cell 0540FD27.

What is weird is that the LAC is the same for both cells (0D16). This
implies that both cells belong to the same network, and therefore if the
device can register to one of them it should be able to do the same with
the other one. As that does not happen, this points to a modem FW error
or maybe that some tuning on modem parameters is needed on our side.

  While walking around outside, signal strength goes from full bars to "Denied"
or "Unavailable." This occurs with one SIM card in SIM Slot One and the second
slot empty. I have noticed the behavior with both the US provider T-Mobile and
AT This will occur while driving as well. Sometimes, the phone will have to
be restarted before signal bars are displayed again. However, restarting does
not always fix it. This occurs both in Los Angeles, CA and Washington, DC as
well as other major cities. If stationary, I can expect reasonable speeds and
reliable service all day without interruption.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1607823] Re: Cellular connection drops out

2016-08-02 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@jibel, that behaviour might be considered a bug, I have opened bug
#1608885 for system-settings to address that.

If you see the bug again you can try to execute /usr/share/ofono/scripts
/scan-for-operators and you will see a list like:

<<
Scanning operators on modem /ril_0...
[ /ril_0/operator/21403 ]
Status = current
MobileCountryCode = 214
MobileNetworkCode = 03
Name = Orange
Technologies = gsm umts

[ /ril_0/operator/21401 ]
Status = available
MobileCountryCode = 214
MobileNetworkCode = 01
Name = vodafone ES
Technologies = gsm umts

[ /ril_0/operator/21404 ]
Status = available
MobileCountryCode = 214
MobileNetworkCode = 04
Name = Yoigo
Technologies = gsm umts

[ /ril_0/operator/21407 ]
Status = available
MobileCountryCode = 214
MobileNetworkCode = 07
Name = movistar
Technologies = gsm umts
>>

You can force one or another operator by doing:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:/usr/share/ofono/scripts/test-network-
registration

being path something like /ril_0/operator/X, as in scan-for-
operators output. Check if forcing your operator to Free changes
something.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1607823] Re: Cellular connection drops out

2016-08-02 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Pat, thanks for the logs. I can see there are time periods where you
lose registration for a while. Also, I see that initially two networks
are found:

310/410 -> AT, GSM and UMTS bands compatible with MX4
310/120 -> Sprint, LTE bands non compatible with MX4

but after a while I see notifications showing only the Sprint network.
Besides, Sprint should not appear here unless you can register there. Do
you know if there is some agreement between Sprint and AT to share
network in your area, maybe depending on the band?

Also, could you try going to
SystemSettings->Cellular->Carrier>Carrier and check which operators
do you see there? Try to select AT as your only operator and see if
that improves the situation.

@julia-palandri, this is all about timing, so probably it is just good
luck. However, silo 29 has a new ofono that should fix this, you can
give it a try if you want. Ticket is https://requests.ci-

  I press the button to turn off the screen and leave it off for 2 or more

  I can make calls and SMS but MMS and Data has no connection, at this

Bug description:
  I just received five incoming calls but I couldn't answer any of them.
  In each case the phone started vibrating, then after a while the ring
  tone started and the answer buttons were displayed, but before I had a
  chance to answer, the phone seemed to give up and go back to sleep.
  Then I could see the green envelope meaning that I had missed a call.

  The fifth time was me trying from another phone. In this case it
  seemed that the line was still ringing, but again I was unable to
  answer the call.

  After rebooting the phone, I can now answer incoming calls no problem.
  So it seems this is some bad state that the phone gets into after a
  while.

  I've previously had problems with my phone's cover blocking the light
  sensor and preventing me answering calls. However in this case I was
  expecting the call and had prepared by opening the cover, so this
  can't be the problem.

  Phone is an MX4. OS Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-10.1).

  FYI, this was a job interview, with a CTO who was phoning from New
  York. I'd already had to delay a week after missing the first
  appointment due to the exact same problem. I've been barely
  tolerating Ubuntu Phone's bugs up to now, but this is the final straw.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1588743] Re: Data not working during a call on turbo

2016-06-03 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Timo, are you calling from a SIM different to the one you are using for
data? If you have 2 SIMs inserted and you do that this is expected due
to modem limitations. Otherwise you should have data and calls without
problem, the tech switch is usually handled transparently by the modem.

  If I'm tethering from my turbo and make a phone call, I notice I lose
  a working data connection on my laptop. Wifi stays on but no packets
  move. Connectivity is restored as soon as call is ended.

  Since I'm usually always on 4G/LTE, and I think you can't have a call
  and 4G data at the same time (unless VoLTE), would it be that we're
  not correctly switching to 2G/3G data for the duration of the call, to
  have at least some data connectivity working? I believe that's what
  other 4G phones do when there's no VoLTE.

Try calling *#31# (without adding a phone number). That will give you
the current state of CLIR. To activate / deactivate it use *31# and #31#
(again, without phone numbers). Depending of the operator the code for
switching on/off might be reversed.

  Requirements: Aquaris E4.5 with 2 SIMs, 2nd phone, a car with blue tooth
phone support (Seat Alhambra 2012 in my case)

  1. Connect the Aquaris to the car (with two SIM cards, car kid shows the
provider of the 2nd SIM card in the display)
  2. From the second device call the number of SIM1
  3. Phone & car sound rings and call can be taken

  4. From the second device call the number of SIM2
  5. Phone does ring but car kit not.

  6. Call 2nd phone from Aquaris connected to the car with SIM1 (via the phone
directly or using the car kit)
  7. Normal behaviour with in car phone & audio system

  8. Call 2nd phone from Aquaris connected to car with SIM2 (only possible
dialling from the phone)
  9. No sound on the phone, no microphone support

  EXPECTED:
  I expect that calls from SIM2 can be taken and performed as from SIM1

  ACTUAL:
  SIM2 seems not to work when phone is connected to blue tooth of car whereby
SIM1 works flawlessly

  VERSIONS:
  OS-Build-Number: 25
  Ubuntu-Image: 20150825.1

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1565762] Re: cannot get roaming(spain)

2016-05-03 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
You should do instead:

adb shell /system/bin/logcat -v threadtime -b radio > radio.txt

as a direct "adb logcat" does not worj in UT.

Title:
  ETSI MSS support via the SIM <-> phone UI

Status in ofono package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
  It would seem like Ubuntu phone doesn't currently have support for
  ETSI Mobile Signature Service that has millions of users in at least
  Finland, Estonia and Turkey. When I have the phone unlocked according
  to ID registering instructions and I click OK on the web, nothing
  appears on the phone. There should be questions shown on the phone
  screen.

  It's not clear to me what's missing. Most/all functionality seems to
  be on the SIM card itself, so I wonder this would be more about some
  lack of SIM <-> phone UI co-operation. The Wikipedia article says
  that phones may have issues with SIM Application Toolkit protocol
  here.

  On the end user sites I don't even find information about any
  technical requirements, so I assume this support is available in
  most/all other phones (read: at least Android, iPhone, Windows Phone).
  I will update the bug if I get more information.

  Update: reported working on Jolla

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1565762] Re: cannot get roaming(spain)

2016-04-08 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
It is difficult to say what might be happening here. If somebody is able
to reproduce, syslog would be useful. Doing

/system/bin/logcat -b radio > radio.txt

letting it be for a couple of minutes and attaching radio.txt will help
too.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1533508] Re: Mobile data doesn't automatically connect after leaving wifi

2016-03-30 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
This is how the bug is apparently produced:

1. NM asks ofono to activate a context
2. Network is gone just a moment after that and modem detaches
3. Attached property is set to FALSE by ofono, then it tries to deactivate
activated contexts, but there are none (no response yet from the request sent
in step 1)
4. A few seconds later, the context is activated. Obviously the modem has
registered again, but no event has triggered for that yet.
5. Modem says it is registered, right AFTER it has activated the context (which
is maybe not the most correct sequence of events). Ofono detects that there are
active context and it assumes it asked these context to close when it set
Attached to FALSE. But that is not true as there were no active context when we
did that. We do not change Attached property because ofono waits for old
contexts to close before setting Attached to TRUE.
6. We stall until the active context is finally closed by some external event,
which might happen hours later. While we are in this situation there is an
active context, but probably it is not used by NM as it does nothing with ofono
until Attached is TRUE. This last thing needs confirmation.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1537735] Re: SMS are sent (and charged for) multiple times

2016-01-25 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@mzanetti, are you completely sure the operator is charging for the
duplicate messages? I have seen duplicates occasionally under bad
network conditions, but the operator charged only one message in the
end.

Also, note that when you use non-ASCII characters the message can be
split and generate multiple individual SMS messages, that are in this
case charged individually. The char count per SMS can drop quite a lot
when doing this, see bug #1480554.

Bug description:
  When there is poor network coverage, it often happens that SMS are
  sent multiple times. They appear only once in the messages app, but
  the other end receives them multiple times (up to 5 times I believe).

  In the example of the attached screenshots, the sender never received
  the confirmation that it actually succeeded, the receiver however
  received the message multiple times. Also the operator will charge for
  each sent instance. I have seen other cases where eventually the
  confirmation comes through after, say, 3 attempts and it stops
  retrying.

  I'm not really sure about what to do if the confirmation doesn't come
  through the network, but as I've never seen this issue with other
  phones, I think it must be something like the retries being sent with
  a different ID, so the operator cannot match the message to previous
  attempts? Or perhaps the timeout for waiting for the reply is just too
  short?

  After running some test on my BQ Aquaris E4.5 I have finally found it!

  This is WHY some incoming calls are not shown and the phone don't
  ring! ( so you receive the message of a miss call by your mobile
  operator)

  Here the procedure:

  - Turn on your BQ Aquaris E4.5
  - At first you will connected with 2G
  - Ask someone to call you: it will work
  - Wait some second for the 3G connection
  - Ask someone to call you again: don't work! ( so you will be only notified
by your mobile operator of a missed call)

  How to solve:

  - Go in your connection settings
  - Choose to use only 2G connection
  - Ask someone to call you: it will always work!

  Please work on IT! Thanks from Italy!

  The APN settings provided by the carrier are:
  FIELD SETTINGS

  I noticed that the above command returns "Type = internet", even
  though in cellular settings the APN is set as "Internet and MMS".

  Perhaps this has been fixed in a development version of Touch, but I

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1504992] Re: Cannot connect to Simple Mobile APN

2015-10-27 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@delete, thanks, with either of the two binaries I provided you are
actually establishing a data call. Which confirms the hypothesis that
your operator wants an authentication protocol to be selected even when
there is no user/password. To solve this we need to support this in the
UI.

While we fix this, you could try to put some random user/password in
your settings and see if you get connected with that trick. If that does
not work you might want to substitute temporarily your /usr/sbin/ofonod
with one of those in comment #12, in case you do not mind making your
system writeable.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1505012] Re: Cannot receive calls or text messages with 3G Enabled in Italy on BQ Aquaris E4.5

2015-10-26 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Nicola, I see a call in the radio log that is apparently hang up from
the user side, so apparently all is normal. Please try this:

adb shell
sudo su
stop ofono
OFONO_RIL_DEVICE=mtk OFONO_RIL_NUM_SIM_SLOTS=2 OFONO_RIL_HEX_TRACE=""
OFONO_RIL_TRACE=""  ofonod -nd -P stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp &>
/tmp/ofono.txt

* Wait to see you have 3G coverage and make the call. After it fails:

* Press Ctrl+C

exit
adb pull /tmp/ofono.txt /tmp/

and attach /tmp/ofono.txt to the bug. Please just make one call to have
a clean log. If at a first try you cannot reproduce the error, press
ctrl+c and follow these steps from the beginning.

Finally, just reboot to return your phone to a good state.

Title:
  Cannot receive calls or text messages with 3G Enabled in Italy on BQ
  Aquaris E4.5

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Incomplete
Status in ofono package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  After running some test on my BQ Aquaris E4.5 I have finally found it!

  This is WHY some incoming calls are not shown and the phone don't
  ring! ( so you receive the message of a miss call by your mobile
  operator)

  Here the procedure:

  - Turn on your BQ Aquaris E4.5
  - At first you will connected with 2G
  - Ask someone to call you: it will work
  - Wait some second for the 3G connection
  - Ask someone to call you again: don't work! ( so you will be only notified
by your mobile operator of a missed call)

  How to solve:

  - Go in your connection settings
  - Choose to use only 2G connection
  - Ask someone to call you: it will always work!

  Please work on IT! Thanks from Italy!

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1504992] Re: Cannot connect to Simple Mobile APN

2015-10-26 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@delete, I have attached a tarball with 2 new versions of the binary.
Please extract with "tar xf" and then follow the instructions in comment
#10 again, but using ofonod.1 and ofonod.2 instead of the ofonod binary.
Just change slightly the execution command and use:

# OFONO_RIL_DEVICE=mtk OFONO_RIL_HEX_TRACE="" OFONO_RIL_TRACE=""
/tmp/ofonod.X -nd -P stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp &>
/tmp/ofonoX.txt&

so you collect more traces. Please attach the 2 new trace files.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1504992] Re: Cannot connect to Simple Mobile APN

2015-10-21 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@delete, thanks. I see the error:

AT+CGACT=1,1
+CME ERROR: 149

Looking at 3gpp 27.007, that is "PDP authentication failure". We are not
using authentication as there is no user/password, so this is a bit
strange. I have attached an "ofonod" binary that forces authentication,
could you give it a try? To use it:

* Deactivate cellular data in the device
* Download the binary
$ adb push ofonod /tmp/
$ adb shell
$ chmod a+x /tmp/ofonod
$ sudo su
# stop ofono
# OFONO_RIL_DEVICE=mtk /tmp/ofonod -nd -P
stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp &> /tmp/ofono.txt&

Then do

Title:
  Cannot connect to Simple Mobile APN

Status in ofono package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:

  version ubuntu: 20150825.1
  version device: 20150818-0b38025
  version custom: 20150814-887-8-46

  The APN settings provided by the carrier are:
  FIELD SETTINGS
  APN   SIMPLE
  MMSC  HTTP://SMPL.MMS.MSG.ENG.T-MOBILE.COM/MMS/WAPENC
  MMS_APN   SIMPLE
  which is exactly what I see listed in the cellular settings on my phone.

  phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-contexts

  Protocol = ip
  IPv6.Settings = { }
  Password =
  Settings = { Method=dhcp }
  MessageCenter = http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc

  I noticed that the above command returns "Type = internet", even
  though in cellular settings the APN is set as "Internet and MMS".

  Perhaps this has been fixed in a development version of Touch, but I
  don't know how to find / install said version for Meizu MX4.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1504992] Re: Cannot connect to Simple Mobile APN

2015-10-19 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@delete, thanks a lot for the logs, but unfortunately I just see a
generic error code when trying to start the data connection that does
not help a lot. Please try

sudo /system/bin/logcat -b radio > radio.txt&

before trying to activate the context while following the steps in
comment #6, and attach radio.txt to the bug.

In my case I got the error by simply creating a vivid chroot and then
installing ofono, it was not even a release upgrade.

Could you try executing:

then please paste output of "ifconfig" command and /var/log/syslog

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1504992] Re: Cannot connect to Simple Mobile APN

2015-10-16 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@delete, thanks for the information. We need some more traces, please
try following these instructions:

* Go to "System Settings" -> "Mobile" and deactivate mobile data
* Reboot so we make sure we start from a clean state
* Execute these commands from a PC/terminal after the reboot:
$ adb shell
$ sudo su
# stop ofono
# OFONO_RIL_DEVICE=mtk OFONO_RIL_HEX_TRACE="" OFONO_RIL_TRACE="" ofonod -nd -P
stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp &> /tmp/ofono.txt&

Wait half a minute to make sure we are attached to the network

# /usr/share/ofono/scripts/activate-context 1
# pkill ofonod
# exit
$ exit
$ adb pull /tmp/ofono.txt

and attach ofono.txt to the bug.

Reboot the phone and enable cellular data to return to your original
configuration.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1505012] Re: Cannot receive calls or text messages with 3G Enabled in Italy on BQ Aquaris E4.5

2015-10-13 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
It would also be interesting to gather the radio log while trying to
call the phone. Please try this:

adb shell
sudo /system/bin/logcat -b radio -c
sudo /system/bin/logcat -b radio > /tmp/radio.txt

* Now try to call the phone. After it fails:

exit
adb pull /tmp/radio.txt /tmp/

and attach /tmp/radio.txt to the bug.

Bug description:
  After running some test on my BQ Aquaris E4.5 I have finally found it!

  This is WHY some incoming calls are not shown and the phone don't
  ring! ( so you receive the message of a miss call by your mobile
  operator)

  Here the procedure:

  - Turn on your BQ Aquaris E4.5
  - At first you will connected with 2G
  - Ask someone to call you: it will work
  - Wait some second for the 3G connection
  - Ask someone to call you again: don't work! ( so you will be only notified
by your mobile operator of a missed call)

  How to solve:

  - Go in your connection settings
  - Choose to use only 2G connection
  - Ask someone to call you: it will always work!

  Please work on IT! Thanks from Italy!

executing

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1499342] Re: National Roaming not working

2015-09-25 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@mzanetti, thanks for the logs. If the N9 shows "o2 - de" that means
that probably it considers that it is roaming, otherwise it would not
show the country code.

The fact that your wife's SIM shows both networks as available is
probably due to having a more modern SIM, which could contain
information to know which operators are considered home network. Is that
SIM post-merger? I guess there is no problem in being registered in one
or another network with it. You can check list-modems output to know the
MCC/MNC of the network you are registered to, in NetworkRegistration
properties.

Finally, maybe some kind of first-time registering was needed in order
to see O2's network as available. If your phone returns to a state where
it cannot register to O2 network, it would be interesting to try forcing
the registration with:

/usr/share/ofono/scripts/test-network-registration /ril_0
/ril_0/operator/26207

even if access is forbidden. If you can register to O2's after that we
could consider showing all networks, including forbidden ones, in
system-settings, as a way to unlock this situation.

  National Roaming not working

Bug description:
  I'm using a simyo (German E-Plus mvno) and when E-Plus and o2 joined
  forces, they enabled national roaming for 3G data connections
  (https://www.simyo.de/faq/national-roaming-18262.html).

  This however doesn't seem to work at all for me. My device (bq Aquaris
  E 4.5) is stuck in the simyo (E-Plus) network and has never registered
  to the o2 network so far. This is unlike bug 1449990 which claims that
  national roaming would be working if roaming is enabled in the
  settings. I can not confirm that. I have roaming enabled (and
  international roaming works fine), however, national roaming doesn't
  kick in.

  The problem now is, that ever since those operators enabled national
  roaming, the E-Plus network seems to be degrading and now has reached
  a point where I cannot use a mobile data connection inside buildings
  any more.

  Looking at my app download statistics, 25% of all Ubuntu phone users
  seem to be located in Germany. Given that E-Plus has a huge amount of
  mvno's I estimate this issue is affecting a quite large portion of our
  users.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1499342] Re: National Roaming not working

2015-09-25 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
This smells like a modem FW issue: whatever the trick O2/symio are using
to allow this kind of roaming, the modem does not like it unless the SIM
has previously registered to that network. Not sure if we can do much
there but complaining to MediaTek. However, the logcat might be useful
to gather more information:

sudo /system/bin/logcat -b radio

Output of the command while scanning the operators would be interesting.

Another question, do you have roaming status when registered to the O2
network (for BQ and Meego)?

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1486004] Re: Cannot import contacts from sim card ( ofono crash )

2015-09-10 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
I had been working on bug #1492388, and then I came across this bug,
which seems to be the same :-)

The crash seems to happens when a record in EFpbr does not contain any
files types to read. This branch should fix the issue:

https://github.com/rilmodem/ofono/pull/201

I have attached a binary ofonod in case somebody wants to give it a try.
To use it, download and follow these instructions:

$ adb push ofonod /tmp/
$ adb shell
$ sudo su
# stop ofono
# chmod +x /tmp/ofonod

Then, execute as follows:

For BQ phones
# OFONO_RIL_DEVICE=mtk OFONO_RIL_NUM_SIM_SLOTS=2 /tmp/ofonod -nd -P
stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp

For MX4:
# OFONO_RIL_DEVICE=mtk /tmp/ofonod -nd -P
stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp

For mako:
# /tmp/ofonod -nd -P stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp

Finally try to import your contacts from the contacts-app. Please attach
the output of ofonod execution if that does still not work. As a bonus,
if importing worked you will not need to wait for the next OTA with the
proper fix, as you will already have the contacts imported.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1490673] Re: Can't receive MMS for Orange or SOSH by Orange in france

2015-09-09 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Cyril, I see that nuntium is receiving a MMS and all seems good there.
Traces from nuntium.log:

2015/09/08 21:50:07 Push data
...
2015/09/08 21:50:08 Trying to set Active property to false for context on false
/ril_0/context3

If nothing is received I can only think of some problem in messaging-app
when trying to parse the message. Where did you send the MMS from, and
with which attachments? Have you tried to send the MMS from different
phones? If you can receive from some phone and not from others you could
open a bug for messaging-app.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1490673] Re: Can't receive MMS on my MEIZU MX4:Provider SOSH by Orange in france

2015-09-04 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@gnumdk, probably you need to check your APN configuration and see if it
is configured as specified by your operator. Go to "system settings" ->
cellular -> operator -> APN.

But even with no routes you should have received the push notification
which comes in SMS, so if it is not in the ofono log your operator has

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1490673] Re: Can't receive MMS on my MEIZU MX4:Provider SOSH by Orange in france

2015-09-03 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@aizac, yes, that definitely points to an issue while ofono is decoding
the message with the MMS push notification. So we are really near to
find the bug, I just need some more information to reproduce this
locally. Could you do from a PC connected to your phone (with dev mode
activated):

$ adb shell
$ sudo su
# stop ofono
# OFONO_RIL_DEVICE=mtk OFONO_RIL_HEX_TRACE="" OFONO_RIL_TRACE="" ofonod -nd -P
stktest,provision,sap,udev,dun,smart,hfp &> ofono.txt

* send a MMS to the phone and wait a bit to make sure we have received
the notification (you could grep for UNSOL_RESPONSE_NEW_SMS in ofono.txt
from another terminal to know when that happens)

Press ctrl^C and either attach ofono.txt to the bug or send it to me
privately if you have privacy concerns. Then you can reboot the phone to
restore it to a good state.

You can also follow these steps using the terminal app if you prefer
that (doing "adb shell" does not apply in that case).

Hopefully with this info I will be able to hunt down the bug and I will
not annoy you with more log requests :-)

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1469266] Re: Voicemail message shown after a reboot when there are no messages

2015-09-03 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Dubstar_04, unfortunately the bug makes the phone store some
information on the SIM that need your intervention to get reset. This
should clear the flag:

1. Power off the phone / set flight mode
2. Leave a voicemail message using another phone
3. Power on the phone / unset flight mode
4. Listen and remove your pending voicemail from your ubuntu phone

After 4 you should receive some information from the network that will
remove the voicemail message.

The reason for the crash seems to be an event that switches the radio

2015-07-27 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
Actually, the call is started by a Dial DBus call to an ofono modem
started from bluetoothd. Currently we are not using ofono's HFP
implementation, but the BlueZ one. This will change when we move from
BlueZ 4 to BlueZ 5. But for the moment the one which chooses the modem
to use is BlueZ.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1471338] Re: sometimes phone never wakes up or rings on incoming call

2015-07-21 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@jibel, thanks for the log. I have performed some analysis of the radio
part, which shows traces for one incoming call. Things seem normal
there:

1. rild sends UNSOL_INCOMING_CALL_INDICATION
2. ofono replies with RIL_REQUEST_SET_CALL_INDICATION
3. rild sends UNSOL_CALL_PROGRESS_INFO
4. ofono sends GET_CURRENT_CALLS
5. rild replies with a list of calls that includes an incoming call

At that point ofono knows that there is a call and it should signal it
appropriately. As a missed call indication is finally shown it looks
like that is done. Also, as being suspended or not is irrelevant, powerd
does not seem to be involved in this bug.

Finally, dbus.log shows a new call from the same number. If all traces
were cleaned up before reproducing, this shows that the bug is not in
ofono, but somewhere upper in the stack.

https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~abeato/ofono/ofonod

that I think should fix the bug.

Could you give it a try and check if following the steps in comment #15
(for arale) the voice mail indication disappears?

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1469266] Re: Voicemail message shown after a reboot when there are no messages

2015-07-15 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@pat-mcgowan, thanks for the syslog. SIM files indicate that there is
pending voicemail, which seems wrong. I need to get more traces to see
what is going on. Please download this ofonod binary:

https://chinstrap.canonical.com/~abeato/ofono/ofonod

and do

adb push ofonod /tmp/
adb shell
sudo stop ofono
sudo cp /tmp/ofonod /usr/sbin/
sudo rm /var/log/syslog

Please make sure that /etc/init/ofono.override has all traces activated,
as in:

http://paste.ubuntu.com/11877511/

Then:

1. power off the phone
2. Leave a voice mail
3. Start the phone. Wait a bit so the voicemail indication is received.
4. Listen to the voice mail and check that the voice mail indication is removed
5. Copy the current syslog to your PC (syslog(1)), then remove it to have a
cleaner log
6. Reboot and wait until you are registered in the network
7. Copy the current syslog to your PC (syslog(2))

Finally, please send me, or attach syslog(1) and syslog(2)

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1471338] Re: sometimes phone never wakes up or rings on incoming call

2015-07-10 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
The log in comment #2 shows that when there are UNSOL_CALL_RING events
the call is finally answered with RIL_REQUEST_ANSWER. I do not see
anything suspicious there. @bfiller, could you try adding

env OFONO_RIL_TRACE=

to /etc/init/ofono.override , and try to reproduce again?

Was the phone suspended when this happened?

  The problem is sometimes during an incoming call the phone never wakes
  up or rings at all (and no snap decision). From the remote end the
  call just continues to ring and eventually goes to voicemail. When
  this occurs the signal strength appears to have at least 3 bars.

  It seems ofono is not notifying the upper layers that a call is incoming.
This can be verifed by running the following command:
  dbus-monitor --system | grep CallAdded

  This never gets fired during error condition when the incoming call is
  ringing from remote end.

  Attached is the ofono log when I got it to happen once (not sure where
  in the log corresponds to the failure)

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1444883] Re: Emergency numbers other than 112 and 911 (and 999 for the UK) are not available in emergency mode

2015-07-10 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@jibel. to summarize:

1. Solution is to let the user call any number even if there is no SIM.
It is harmless and should be done even when we have (2). I think that
this is a modification of telephony-service.

2. Long term solution to identify emergency codes is to use
libphonenumber, as we cannot rely completely on SIM files and rild does
not notify ofono of the network current emergency numbers.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1360403] Re: MMS does not work with T-Mobile US

2015-06-15 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
An additional problem found: 03mmsproxy (the one attached) sets up a
route for just one of the IPs of the MMSC. If it is a balanced server it
can happen that 03mmsproxy sets up a route for an IP that is different
to the one that ubuntu-upload-manager uses in the end, due to different
responses from the DNS servers.

The HTTP/1.0 302 Found server response happens even when the
connection is properly routed through the cellular connection.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1360403] Re: MMS does not work with T-Mobile US

2015-06-15 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@jdstrand thank for the logs you sent me. I see there two interesting
things:

1. The traffic for the MMS proxy is going through WiFi instead of the
cellular connection. This is a bug in the 03mmsproxy which is executed
by NetworkManager. Apparently it does not create routes properly when it
needs to resolve a host name. This is a similar bug that the patched
ofono I sent you was solving. The difference is that for contexts that
support internet+mms at the same time (as T-Mobile's) the routing is
made by NM instead of ofono, and that's why the new ofono did not change
things.

2. Unusually, the MMSC is accessible via internet, so ubuntu-upload-
manager can reach it anyway. However, the server responds with result
HTTP/1.0 302 Found. Apparently this can mean URL re-direction (but the
response does specify the same URL as the request!) or a request to
change the POST u-u-m used to a GET. But maybe it is just the error it
returns when trying to access from wifi instead of using the cellular
connection.

I have added lxc-android-config to the bug (03mmsproxy resides there)
and ubuntu-dowload-manager (package that includes the uploader) to
address point 1 and 2 respectively.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1360403] Re: MMS does not work with T-Mobile US

2015-06-15 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@doflah, is the patch you made for nuntium a hack to be able to send or
a change that you needed to do? If it is the latest would you mind
creating a pull request against https://github.com/ubuntu-
phonedations/nuntium ? It looks like you change is to be able to rx non-
SMIL messages. Thanks!

Also, as you were able to send (I guess setting the MMSC IP address in
the context), probably means point 2 in my previous comment is due to
trying to send from wifi instead of the cellular connection.

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1331813] Re: Support ipv6 mobile connections

Changes in ofono mean basically exposing the ipv6 settings returned by
rild in ofono's DBus interface. The only issue that is trickier is the
handling of MMS contexts, as ofono does establish addresses and routes
in that case (which is not true for internet contexts).

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1444883] Re: Emergency numbers for China (110, 119) are not available in emergency mode

2015-05-27 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Tony

I did the testing with Ubuntu/arale.

Let me reword what I said for libphonenumber: I was trying to say that
libphonenumber is probably not 100% accurate. We can and should use it,
but we should not prevent the user to call numbers that are not there
either.

Finally, right, the specific things that are done for emergency calls (I
think that the only one in ofono is that you cannot offline the modem, I
do not know what other pieces of the system do under emergency
conditions) would not be done in those cases, but that is a minor issue
compared to not being able to call emergency codes.

Bug description:
  Hi,

  MMS doesn't works on mako and krillin (both RTM) with the carrier
  Free (France).

  I try to set up from the GUI :

   * open web browser at carrier support mms APN
   * open system-setting/phone/carrier/access point/APN MMS/Customized APN MMS
button (I have the french language, might not be exactly this in english sorry)
   * swipe back to web-browser to copy/paste information about APN MMS
   * I am lost; using telegram as fallback but all my contact don't have it :/

  Note: this bug is not about the native support of Free as seen on bug
  #1362008 (even if I wish the fix was landed) but about settings
  fields: are they standards ? because my carrier doesn't give me the
  same fields as you can see on the attached image; should we have a
  choice between diferrent form layout? I don't know.

  Also please re-assign the affected package, I don't want to do mistake

[Ubuntu-phonedations-bugs] [Bug 1444883] Re: Emergency numbers for China (110, 119) are not available in emergency mode

2015-05-25 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
@Tony, I have dialled a non-emergency number, without SIM, using the
dial-number ofono script. The radio logs shows:

05-25 05:42:06.748  1879  1885 D use-Rlog/RLOG-AT: ATDX;
...
05-25 05:42:06.754  1879  1899 D use-Rlog/RLOG-AT: +CME ERROR: 100

so rild tries to dial, although the modem responds immediately with an
unknown error. This fits your observation about the call being quickly
rejected, and also that the radio layer does try to dial. IMHO I think
this confirms that it is better to let the modem and the network handle
emergency codes: the modem/network does not inform us which numbers are
emergency, so we should better be safe and not make assumptions in the
dialer-app that could prevent the user to make an emergency call.

Re: the CMCC SIM, in the list of properties that Evan has attached we
have:

[ril.ecclist]: [112,911]

Same emergency codes as in ofono. These numbers must come from the SIM,
and apparently rild does not add any numbers to these. IMO the SIM
profile is simply wrong, being this a Chinese SIM. This is worrying, as
it implies that we cannot blindly trust the list of emergency codes on
the SIM. And we cannot just simply trust the numbers in libphonenumber.

I do not imply with this that we cannot improve the list of emergency
number, either using libphonenumber or trying to find a way to ask the
modem the list (maybe using directly some AT command?): but I do think
that we *must* be safe here, and *first* let dialer-app dial any number
even when there is no SIM/the SIM is locked. There is no harm here, as
the modem/network will reject the call if the number is not emergency.
