Adopt an ISO
Hi, I'm Richard Palomino (richard.m.palomino...@dartmouth.edu) and I'd be interested in adopting one of the ISO's. I can run one of the amd64 versions alongside Windows 7 on my laptop. Re: Partial upgrade Can't guess meta-package
Hi, This may be due to the update-manager needing to update. I ran sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and it updated fine. I may need to try that on a fresh install though. Re: Partial upgrade Can't guess meta-package
Brian, you know I second guessed myself here after writing ubuntu-bug update-manager.. But I think the problem may be in ubuquity since it didn't install the right package.. Whoops, I re-read, ubuntu-desktop is installed.. Ignore me.. Re: Partial upgrade Can't guess meta-package
Actually update-manager is a better package here as Russell indicated that he had already installed the system and the problems were trying to upgrade after installing the system. Additionally, the update-manager apport package hook will give us better log files to debug this issue. Re: Partial upgrade Can't guess meta-package
Russell, I would report this via ubuntu-bug ubiquity and note you encountered the bug in the iso tracker. Thanks for helping test! Partial upgrade Can't guess meta-package
Hi, I doing the 'Install (ubiquity) in Ubuntu DVD amd64 for Precise Daily' test case in a Virtual Machine with Oracle VirtualBox. It installed OK and rebooted as expected. After running sudo apt-get update and opening Update Manager it asked, 'Not all updates can be installed' 'Run a partial upgrade, to install as many updates as possible. ' I tried the Partial Upgrade but got an error message 'Can't guess meta-package' 'Your system does not contain a ubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-desktop, xubuntu-desktop or edubuntu package and it was not possible to detect which version of Ubuntu you are running. Please install one of the packages above first using synaptic or apt-get before processing. ' ubuntu-desktop is installed and the newest version (sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop). I have Lubuntu 11.10 working with PA OK and intend to update that machine to 12.04 at some point so the less problems the better ;) -- Steve -- Ubuntu-qa mailing list Ubuntu-qa@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-qa

Good, because we need all the help we can get, we are releasing Precise next week and we need people motivated to go through installs some times and tell us if there are any problems. Do you have a launchpad user? If not, create an account for yourself in launchpad: https://launchpad.net/ Then, go to the iso-tracker (http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/), and log in with your launchpad id, once you've done that you'll see Milestones, choose the one that is on Status "Testing". Then go down to the Ubuntu images, and depending on which hardware you have for testing, get started with the applicable product. For instance, if you have a 64 bit machine with some free HD space, you can go for Ubuntu Desktop AMD64, and in there you'll find a link to the latest build and some test cases. If you are going to use your own machine for this, be careful, it is easy to install on the wrong place and lose some data, if I were you I'd do a backup first. Please, make sure you record any test result in the test case you happen to run. You could run them in French to give us some coverage in your language. If you raise any bugs, please also note them down when you submit you result. Happy testing!
