Introductory Mail

2012-08-07 Thread Mart Küng
Hi

I'm Mart Küng a.k.a. kyng386, a student from Estonia. I have been using
*buntu(s) since ~2006 and recently started to think I would like to help
making it better. I don't have much experience about testing so watch &
learn will be my primary activities in the near future.

Mart

Re: Pulseaudio 2.1 Testing

2012-08-07 Thread Nicholas Skaggs

I hope John doesn't mind me sharing his question, since it's a good one :-)

From google,
/Smoke testing is non-exhaustive software testing, ascertaining that the
most crucial functions of a program work, but not bothering with finer
details/

I think that sums up what I mean when I say smoke tests. In practice,
you'll find the smoketests to be a series of yes/no questions. This
differs from the step-by-step instructions with actions and expected
results of our normal testcases. Those tests (like for example, iso
testing), are meant to cover as many details as possible to find out any
and all bugs. When we test something as large as the kernel or audio, we
typically utilize testcases that are more in line with smoke-testing to
ensure general compatibility and functionality. Make sense?

Now, this probably belongs on our wiki someplace. Phil? Others? Ideas?

Nicholas

It may sound silly, but what are smoke tests?

It's a basic series of smoketests. Details on how to use the

As always if you need help, email myself or the list. Cheers!

ISO Testing Cadence Week

2012-08-07 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
Cheers everyone. This week is a cadence week for iso testing. What that
means for us is to test all of our ubuntu isos mandatory testcases at
least once over the course of the week. A big thank you to those who are
already leading the way on this with testing:

Tables gregfaith, michael-kroll, fabiomarconi, and doak-jackson

These 4 have already reported results to the isotracker. Thanks! You may
have noticed that the i386 ubuntu images had issues building, but by the
time you read this those should be resolved. If you need help, check out
the walkthrough page on the wiki and/or email the list. We're happy to
help anyone through there first tests case.

Happy Testing everyone!
